Looks like Starhub are doing a few things to revert the trend, not so sure if that is enough or not.

1) Starhub Go Packs vs SingTel Cast and SingTel TV On the Go

2) Starhub Go Streaming box -- SingTel got no counterpart but you can buy Mi Box S and install SingTel TV On the Go and SingTel Cast

3) New Entertainment pack where you can switch to different packs, for example between English and Chinese pack. SingTel does not have this flexibility yet.

I think they should get rid of the Fibre Link Access fee.

On the other hand, both will lose to other streaming providers like Netflix, HBO Go, Amazon Prime Video, Viu, Toggle, etc. The strategy from SingTel and Starhub is bundle them and offer cheaper price.

Yes. You can install SingTel TV Go and SingTel Cast on Mi Box S, based on reports here and elsewhere in a Facebook group.

SingTel TV Go and SingTel Cast will not work under rooted box. On my boxes I can install the two but they will exit upon start saying the box is rooted.

Starhub Go can not be installed on Mi Box S but you can cast from phone.

I believe we need to be fair to Starhub because of the history.

Here are my thoughts, may not be totally correct as I am not an insider and I am not an expert in this area.

SingTel Mio TV started in the ADSL days and used VLan to combine Internet and IPTV and voice in the same media. They continue this setup when going to Fibre. Good thing is that you do not need to use different ONT ports. Bad thing is that you need a VLan enabled router to go with the ONT. To make things easier for SingTel, they start to offer ONR to new users so that users can use any router but as AP only. This causes a lot of complaints to more technical savvy customers who want to use their high end routers.

You could subscribe to Mio TV last time even if you were using Starhub Cable Online since they could just offer you an ADSL modem for your Mio TV. Now you can subscribe to SingTel TV even though your are using other ISP for internet. No extra charges. So SingTel is good in this aspect.

Starhub Cable TV and Cable Online use Cable Infrastructure. When migrating to Fibre, they probably made a decision which inconvenient the Fibre TV users but make the life of Fibre Internet users easier -- no need Vlan for them, so you can us your own router with Starhub Fibre Internet. Downside is that you need to use a different ONT port for the Fibre TV. Vlan support is needed if you want to use Internet along with the Fibre TV.

On the other hand, Starhub is charging customers Fibre Link Access fee if customer only subscribes to Fibre TV, that is probably not a good decision. Previously you just pay for the Cable TV if you are using other ISPs for Internet.

For SingTel TV over Fibre, you do not need to subscribe to SingTel Fibre broadband, you can keep your My Republic broadband. SingTel will arrange for you. Basically they will use a different ONT port for the SingTel TV.

hi silly question here...

currently i'm an existing Singtel Fiber broadband and mio tv subscriber.... i'm planning to cancel my Singtel Fiber broadband and shift over to myrepublic...

My questions is: Can MioTv work with other Internet providers like Myrepublic? or it can only work with Singtel Fiber? Or should i just change my ONT to ONR and just connect it directly?

Just an update, Myrepublic has just came over to install the fiber broadband today and its up and currently. Which means currently i have the following services running:

1. Myrepublic Fiber Broadband (Devices connected: MR's ONT + Asus GT5300)
2. Singtel Fiber Broadband (Devices connected: ST's ONT + ASUS RT-AC88U + MioTV box )
3. Singtel Mio TV

My question is: If i were to cancel my Singnet Fiber broadband now, what additional router settings do i need to change in order for me to continue watching my MioTv? Will the MioTv still work if i leave the setup as follows:

ST ONT -> ASUS RT-AC88U (on merlin's firmware) -> MioTv box (connected to asus's lan port 4 which has the vlan settings)

i did call up 1688 and they told me that my asus router might not work for miotv after deactivation and its best to use their singnet router (which i threw away many yrs back cos its crap).

I tend to believe it should continue to work. Better confirm with SingTel again. Hopefully the SingTel representative here can help you better than 1688 since usually the 1688 people are just following SOPs.

Worse case is to buy SingTel issued routers like AC Plus from Carousell and they are very cheap.

Moral of the story is not to throw away the SingTel issued router since it may still be required, for example for Singtel maintenance purpose.

Haha I still keep my about 8 year old Pace A5520N router somewhere. And I also keep the AC Plus they gave to me last year when I renewed my contract.

I am using Linksys WRT1900AC since 2014. It is still working fine with my SingTel Internet and SingTel TV.

I do not have Mi Box S myself but as I mentioned, there are reports here and elsewhere that SingTel Cast and SingTel TV work on Mi Box S.

I just recontracted my home fibre broadband and singtel gave singtel tv FOC for 1 year. Unfortunately, my router is in a different room from my TV. Can the STB-3002 box work with wifi or mesh? I am trying to avoid laying cable in my house. Any help is appreciated.

Hi all, I intend to give up my Mio TV subscription - paying too much for nothing.
Need advice on what to get to replace the set-up box rented from Singtel. Do I need to buy a set-up box to just watch Mediacorp programs (mainly news)?

If your TV has digital tuner, you dont need anything to watch free to air channels.

If your TV is older one, you need a digital box with indoor antenna.

Just Google. You can post the model number of the TV and then Google the specifications to see if the spec includes DVB-T2 tuner. You may still need to buy an Antenna.

If not, you can buy a cheap one too.

Alternative is to cast to TV from Toggle App if you have Chromecast dongles.
