I have wanted to subscribe to mioTV since 2 years back for EPL. I like the idea of no set top box rental and no starter pack bullsh!t, which are just tricks to jack up prices.

But for 2 years, SingTel insisted on charging for running a phone wire from the DP to my living room. It is the shortest and the easiest way to run a phone wire to the TV. The DP in the riser is just on the other side of the wall to the TV. Just run a short wire and then drill a small hole in the wall. The alternative free method is to run a wire from the existing phone socket on the sofa side and then over to the TV side. This is no go for me.

To my surprise, after 2 years, they offer this free when I was approached in a shopping mall in July. So I signed up.

Then recently, I received a letter from Mr. Toh Da Sheng, Head sales and Marketing, mio TV.

So I called.

Me: Hello, I have a question. I signed up for mioTV Combo Pack about 2 months ago at $29.90 with first 3 months at 50% off and no rental for set top box. I was told I would have Champions League but now do not have because of content re-packing, no problem. If I want to include channels 111, 112, 113 and Goal TV, will I have to pay rental for set top box?

1609: Sir, if you change content now you will have to pay $4.90 for the set top box rental.

Me: But my contract is only 2 months now and no rental fee for 12 months.

1609: Sir, may I know your name?

Me: My name is <name>.

1609: As long as you change content you will have to start paying set top box rental. What is your full name I can check what is your current package.

Me: Don't bother. If this is what you say then thank you and bye bye.

I never believe in paying for set top box rental and never believe that I must pay for a starter pack before I can subscribe for the sports that I only want. This is why I have never subscribe to StarHub TV.

And now SingTel set top box rental. What next?

Some interesting inforamtion I found:

Hmm... StarHub to SingTel.

Unless u are self employed , very rich or very eng. I don't think u have that time to watch all the football match. There is no need to "upgrade" .For me..i haven even watch a single italian league for past 2 years..spainish league..kick off time already so late and need to sleep...Maybe i will miss the UCL , but the increase of price is not worth

Well, you can say I am self-employed and retired early so I am very eng. I sleep any time I want and wake up any time I want. No fixed time to report to work and no fixed time to finish work. I work any time during the 24 hour day. For the past few days, I have been changing "upgrade" guitar parts on my Les Paul guitar and at the same time learning new programming language for Windows 8. Such is my day.

I am more interested in European Champions League and Europa League and they happen to be on channels I thought of "ugrading" to. For now, I watch the free preview until end of the month. After that, can stream online.

The price increase for me - $34.90 from $29.90 - is quite okay but if have to pay for $4.90 rental then is not worth it.

Really good for u to have your own time . Hopefully u don't mind my ealier comments .

For me , I am just a factory worker who need to work for employer and work day and night shift . Based on my current lifestyle and work schedule , it doesn't worth to pay for this upgrade as I have no time to watch all the match. Even I have my off day on the Week days, I seldom watch spainsh league or Italian league.

I tried watching stream football online like this recent euro 2012 before and totally give up watching euro 2012 fully after one day.I cant stand those Poor quality images ,non HD ,lags , small laptop screen unstable ..

No worry.

I too do not watch all the matches. Just EPL in the weekend and whenever there are ECL matches I am interested in, like tonight and tomorrow night. I do not even watch the replays through the week.

The Internet streams really depend. Sometime there are quite good ones. If I need to stream, I usually on both my Mac mini and stream to both full screen. Can watch different matches or same match with backup. Been doing this for quite some time.

The $34.90 is meant to be a "promotion price" and you will be locked in for 12-month once you agreed to it. No 2 way about it, either you pay $34.90 plus $4.90 for 12 months or no UCL at all..... your choice?

Anyone knows the charges for the 2nd set top box? Besides the $14.90 monthly subscription, do i need to pay for the extra phoneline and modem?

My current plan is 10mbps mio home with 1 supplementary phoneline waived.

If you are on ADSL, the bandwidth from the phone line cannot support 2 Boxes and thus u need another line.

If you really wanna have 2 boxes, will recommend u choose fibre instead.

I noticed Channels 105 and 106 seem to have a lower resolution during live Premier League broadcasts, as if most of the bandwidth has been taken up by other live channels. Anyone else have this problem? BTW, I'm on fibre.
