Think of it as a set of devices, smartly connected wirelessly which allows your device to be connected at the fastest speed around the mesh zone.
Home plugs exist on this own, standalone AP. Even if you have multiple of it, it will not be as efficient as a mesh for, say Wi-Fi roaming.
Just to add on, wifi mesh works by enabling devices to roam from one place to another without disconnection. From conventional home plugs or access point, when one access point is out of reach the connection will drop and the wireless device will choose another wifi connection.
For mesh, you connect to 1 SSID of the mesh and u can place the mesh wide apart provided the secondary mesh is within the zone of the first mesh, then the wireless devices will be passed from the primary to secondary mesh seamlessly..
This mesh might not be working impeccably in all situation, but good enough for medium sized environment without high intensity usage round the clock..
