It will depends on how you define won?=:p

To quote a twitter user...
"Keep in mind while Xbox Series S is $299, the SSD is only 512GB so unless you like deleting & reinstalling games, you’ll want to expand.

Seagate confirmed a 1TB card being made but I can’t imagine this card being less than $150.
That makes it pretty close to a $500 1TB Series X"

You are essentially getting HALF the power for almost the same series X price.

The series S has a very attractive price point and will probably gonna sell well with the mainstream casuals.

I can't help but feel it's like a mid-gen upgrade. In two years time, game developers might find it a trouble to support
if they really want to push next gen capabilities.

It will be interesting to see how this play out in the console world.
Will it start an era of half-ass "next-gen" consoles, just to keep the price low and competitive?
i will reserve my judgement on 512GB~

Series S/X will be using next gen compression, plus texture packs might not be installed for Series S, so game size should be a lot lower when compared to current gen~

Series S will sell a lot because a lot of people are still on 1080P, that's for sure. plus no way you can get ray tracing with jus 299 USD on the PC side~

yes. the smaller RAM is a concern. plus it is not the same speed as Series X.

so the PC problem is creeping in for Series X.

should compete on performance and games library instead of being the cheapest “next-gen”

Global sales 🌎

PS2 outsold Xbox.

PS3 outsold Xbox 360 (Even though Xbox 360 were much cheaper, had a massive 1-year headstart with no competition, releasing a whole year before PS3. And RROD where some ppl bought it multiple times, which further pad the sales numbers. But in the end, still got outsold by PS3).

PS4 outsold Xbox One (Best example of what would happen if both consoles launch in the same month).

Next gen, history will repeat itself. Globally PS5 will easily outsell both Xbox consoles combined.

Microsoft have never won a generation & they never will. While price & power are important factors, quality exclusive games will always be the #1 main reason to buy a console. That's why Sony & Nintendo are more successful in the console market. Their games have global appeal which Microsoft lacks.

Microsoft have lacklustre first-party games for Xbox. I can't even remember when's the last time any Microsoft game won GOTY.

Halo, Gears & Forza over & over again. Rinse & repeat. Even worse, all are multiplatform games also on PC. Don't even need to buy Xbox to play those games. No exclusives. None. Zero.

Next gen, it seems Microsoft are more interested to sell a Game Pass machine. Quantity over quality.

that's provided if sony/ps does not allow more exclusive games on pc, if more exclusive AAA games are coming on pc, no point getting PS5

Comparing purely on specs between Series S to PS5 is not the best comparison IMO.

Unless the digital only edition is aiming below 4K, Sony will not be able to compete in pricing.

Even with 1/3 of the rated power of Series X, by targeting 1080P mainly, with 4x less resolutions to push, the reduction in power and memory will be relative and should present the "same" experience apart from resolution.

Which IMO, is a better strategy especially right now. Sony has forced themselves into 4K only, and it seems tough for Sony to even match Series X pricing.

But while I agree, that Sony still has the upper hand in brand loyalty, and also exclusive games pushing PS to still be the dominant console, Microsoft doesn't need to win only in sales figures on their consoles, whereas Sony relies heavily on that.

And Microsoft is unlikely to be too much concerned by selling lesser than Sony, as long as they seem to have learn from their mistakes for Xbox One by forcing the bundle.

The PS5 DE will most likely be USD100 more expensive. Which is still a damn good price considering the delta in the hardware.

This will only be true is the Series X version is gimped. Which it may well be. The GPU is one thing, but read back a few posts. The main concerns from Devs now appears to be the RAM.

MS strategy on both HW and games is a clusterf*ck. Series S holding the Series X back. The take on gamepass may depend on the kind of games you play. No way MS is making those big budget AAA Single player games to put them on gamepass. They need games released in seasons / stages to ensure you continue to pay monthly for access.

MS would LOVE to be in Sony's position. The problem is the people running Xbox don't have a clue. They only realised the importance of having your own game studios in house in the last 1-2 years. This is why there are no games ready for the launch of the next gen Xbox. The only one they had was Halo ... and that got delayed. MS may have learned from the many mistakes with the Xbox One launch, but are well capable of making new mistakes. They need a clear out of the senior leadership at Xbox imo.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is a good indicator of Sony's strategy moving forward. It release on PC 3 years later, after selling millions of copies on PS4. Probably to entice PC players who enjoyed the game to buy a PS5 to play its sequel, Horizon: Forbidden West.

Sony isn't stupid to release a PS5 game on the same exact day & date as PC, which Microsoft is doing with every single first-party game. Sony knows the value of exclusive games, the potential for it to drive hardware sales.

In the future, I can see Sony releasing a select few (not all) first-party games on PC, but only after a few years have passed from its initial release on PS5. Not day one.

Halo: Infinite is the perfect example that Microsoft is making a mistake by releasing it on older hardware as well. Very underwhelming gameplay & doesn't look next-gen. After receiving negative public reception & feedback, Microsoft rightfully decide to delay it to 2021 to polish it further. While dealing a huge blow for Series X|S launch, relying on third-party titles instead.

They should leave the past generation behind & focus on making it next-gen only, so that the game can take full advantage of cutting-edge tech & show its full potential. Being cross-gen by releasing it on Xbox One is a bad decision. The game is held back by old & weak hardware. 343 Industries are probably struggling to juggle development across multiple systems with different specs. Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X & PC.

That's why Sony is smart by releasing all upcoming first-party games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Demon's Souls, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Gran Turismo 7 & Horizon: Forbidden West exclusively on PS5. No PS4 version.

Those big AAA games are all system sellers that have the potential to move hardware, offering a good reason & incentive for players to upgrade & buy a PS5 early in the generation.

While on Xbox side, users who are currently playing on Xbox One/Xbox One X can choose to keep their current hardware & able to play all new upcoming Microsoft games. Without the need to even buy Series X|S. Another sale loss for Microsoft.

3 years after release on ps/sony, i can accept it. not within 2 years of launch.

It’s all about the games. Unfortunately for Microsoft (fortunately for my wallet), I have no interest in their exclusives. Well.. maybe Gears but their recent iterations seems to have lost the original story appeal.

Just thinking... even if I were to get hold of a PS5 (which I do need cos my PS4 is going bonkers considering it’s 1st gen)... I would still need to upgrade my gaming tv. Currently still using a 55’ FHD LG.

Been looking around. A 55’ TCL or Xiaomi 4K TV is bout <$600. If I really want to tap on the new consoles capabilities... that would mean looking around for a 120Hz panel with HDMI 2.1.

Something tells me my wallet is going to have a big hole.

Spider-Man Miles Morales is a remaster and expansion, Sony clarifies

https://www.videogameschronicle.com...s-is-a-remaster-and-expansion-sony-clarifies/

Sony has clarified that Insomniac’s PS5 Spider-Man game announced on Thursday is a remastered version of the original with a “substantial” expansion...

My advise, don't save on the display, a good quality display like Qled or Oled make a day and night difference, even as your console/pc can output 4k quality, you are always limited by your output which ultimately deliver the end result to your eyes.

and also the Unreal 5 demo on PS5.

PS5 can only run the demo at 1440p30.

The same demo might have to go down to 720p30 on Xbox Series S.
