oh i think the plans in the PS app are not updated for users in our region. that's why i was confused for a bit.

how Sony calculates the pro-rated fee
(TLDR: they use the discounted price that you paid for your existing ps plus plan)

no choice for monthly/yearly upgrades..

mine 6 years then expire means i have to pay alot to upgrade. why can't they just let us upgrade for 1 year.

Plans are Essential $8.90, Extra (+$5) $13.90, Dulex (+$2) $15.90

It is pro-rated by how much you've paid for your monthly plan previously instead of the difference in price between the plans...

Lets say, you bought the discounted PSN at $6 (33% off) instead of full price $8.90 previously.
Instead of topping up $5 to become Extra, top up is $7.90 a month ($13.90 - $6)[Extra - your discounted monthly]

Seems like Sony do not want to honour the previous discount of PS Plus...

our laws don't think can protect us on this but i don't think sony can pull off this kind of bull in EU and if this is not a mistake but real and applicable globally, they are in-fact opening themselves for a class-action lawsuit in the EU.

This is the first time i've seen a company trying to nullified grandfathered discount on your most loyal customers.

imagined you're subscribed to singtel on a grandfather 4G plan at let's say 50GB on a special discount rate of $39 per month instead of the normal $59. Now you want to upgrade your plan to a newer and better one that was advertised to cost $69. Because your original grandfathered plan was charged on a special discount, they pro-rated you all the discount you ever got so now your new plan was $69+$20....essentially, you need to pay back ALL the savings you ever got from them.

Not even the worst and most hated telcos in the world like AT&T and Verizon dare to pull sh!t like this.

but apparently sony just cannot stand the fact that consumers are getting a single cent of discount out of their services.

Did you use your own example to calculate? Bcos I don't think it is true....

Using my case as example, I have more than 6 mths left, divided by $27, it less than $5 per mth. And I bought the current plan on discount.

PS plus deleux is 103.9 per year 8.6 per mth. PS essential is 53.9 per year, 4.49 per month. Differece is 4.166 per month.

34.83/6 is 5.805. You are paying $1.7 more per month if you upgrade now. Sony is crawing back all the discounts given.

Sony already stated that the upgrade is calculated based on the difference of the monthly sub prices.

I've got PS+ stacked until 2025. Were planning to upgrade to Extra for 1 year to try the Game Catalog but there's no option at all. Forced to upgrade to the entirety of the subscription period is ridiculous. Even worse is Sony forcing customers to pay back all discount given in the past (if they want to upgrade). That's unheard of, and next level greed.

Definitely won't upgrade after seeing the horrible price ($220+ to Deluxe/$170+ to Extra). Will stick to just Essential for now.

If Sony do the same thing for US & European launch, there'll be huge backlash for sure. Only then will Sony might reverse its decision.

essential the cheapest tier unless you are into other games in the extra tier. maybe can sub 1 year to try out the extra tier since you don't have subscription.

They don't allow upgrading of 1 or 3 months. Must upgrade the whole period left on PS Plus. That sucks cuz I just wanted to trial the system for a few months to see if its worth keeping, not upgrade my 300+ days right away.

Deluxe? - I don't think I need the game trials at this moment and the Classics list isn't attractive to me personally. It needs time (not sure how long though) for the "Classics" to be added progressively.

Extra? - I'll consider this as I've seen a couple of games I already want to play and it's definitely more value for money to play these games via subscription.

Flexibility? - I have 2 years of subscription duration left. So that's around $129 for Deluxe and $102 for Extra - the ONLY "remaining duration" upgrade path. Why can't we trial for a few months first? All my previous nice nice discounts will become "Bo Lai". (as though it didn't happen)

PS3 games? - ... ... ... ... ..... ....... .........

Disappointing. I'm maintaining Essential for now.

I bought the Deluxe and instantly regretted. I was drawn in when they said ps1 classics. But after signing up, the catalog looked so pathetic. I should've signed up for Extra.

On the plus side, I'm enjoying all their ps plus games available like spider man miles, horizon dawn, AC Valhalla etc. For a person like who never played all these games before, it's really worth it.
PS Extra I mean, definitely not the deluxe.

Should not be a problem. Just add the price difference ($2 per mths) for the rest of the subscription.

The current system that it is leave those who stacked years of subscription with NO choice!

I think after this backslash, they will come with options of 3mths or 1 yr upgrade.
