Singtel has a new 10Gbps Pro Gamer plan (with Asus ROG GT-AX11000 Pro, at S$79 per month) along with the preiously offered 5Gbps Pro Gamer plan (with Asus RT-AX86U, at S$66.90 per month).
https://www.singtel.com/personal/pr...and/fibre-broadband-plans/fibre-gaming-bundle

The problem is that the ONR is not bridged, unlike the previous 1+1 Gamer Bundle plan (with RT-AX86U).

So I think it is not really that "PRO" after all.

The main gaming related feature is the bundle of WTFast Gaming Private Network (GPN).

my M1 500mbps expiring next month.
when is the best date to sign up with SH 5gbps deal? do I need to inform M1 or what? my last changed was many many years ago until M1 decided to price much higher now and not value anymore.

Isn’t GT-AX11000 Pro tri band?

https://www.amazon.sg/ASUS-GT-AX11000-Triple-level-Acceleration-Subscription-free/dp/B0BQ41LDQ3

So Singtel is charging more than MR, uses ONR & gives a tri band router compared to MR giving ROG GT-BE25000 which is quad band. Who would sign up?

1) For existing users of any ISPs: no switching of ISP unless if you got issues or you got very good offers from the other ISPs.

This is especially true for M1 500Mbps and Starhub 500Mbps plan users since you still pay S$30.45 per month out of contract.

Same for Singtel users -- if you are fine with your Singtel Fibre internet plan (no matter using ONT or ONR), no need to change, even though I do not recommend new users to go with Singtel.

WC 2.5Gbps plan is also a good one for existing WC users even though it may not be of very good values for new users due to NLT charges and installation charges.

Some users have questioned why it is good for M1/Starhub 500Mbps users to stay, because Starhub 5Gbps special offer is at only S$29.55 per month.

Indeed the S$29.55 per month Starhub 5Gbps plan promotion is really good. And it is very good that Starhub has offered both ONR option and ONT option for different user needs. So it is perfectly fine for M1/Starhub 500Mbps users to go with the special offer.

On the other hand, it is still perfectly fine for users of M1/Starhub 500 Mbps users to stay with the existing plan if they do not want the hassle to change ISPs, since out of contract price is still at S$30.45 per month.

A few reasons to stay:

1) If it works, why change? The users may not want the hassle of changing, especially almost no cost difference.

2) There is a potential regression if going for the Nokia ONR option as some users report that its wireless is not so stable.

3) If going for the ONT option without a router, technically the user can use the existing networking gears but then they may only use the 5Gbps plan as 1Gbps plan. It is human nature to have the desire to the necessary gears to utilize the 5Gbps bandwidth. So the users may have to upgrade the router and get 5Gbe or 10Gbe network adapters for their PCs. Then there will be associated cost.

4) Some users may still want to wait for better deals. I think it is hard to beat the S$29.55 pricing now from the big three. But there may be better bundling deals with better effective price: either with contents bundle, or with better wireless router or mesh bundle.

Just an example for router bundle price, Starhub EB810v and HB710 are of course of pretty good value, but M1 6Gbps bundle of a pair of Asus ZenWiFi BT10 at S$59.90 are of very good value as well.

Another example for contents bundle, some users may want Starhub HomeHub+ Entertainment bundle or SingTel TV bundle.

Big thanks to forumers like yourself, I've signed up for the $29.55 Starhub 5gbps ONT plan for my new place instead of relocating my M1 500mbps with 2 months contract left. I chose to pay the termination penalty rather than the relocation fee.

Been a very long time 500mbps user, although it's stable, there's no benefit for me to stay on when i can get the theoretical 10x more bandwidth at around the same price. I know the speed is limited by my router and APs, but at least the bandwidth is there for me to use as and when i need it.

Another reason to stay with M1 at $30.45 per month is because it's actually less expensive if you use and value the fixed home phone line that M1 includes at no additional charge. Just be sure to cancel the bundled mobile data SIM that may incur out of contract charges.

Need some advise, planning to not recontract my current singtel 1gbs plan as previously was bundle with the entertainment package everymonth paying like $66. On the tv for like twice per year during CNY and New year only LOL.

Was thinking to move to MR ASUS TUF Gaming BE6500 Wi-Fi 7 GAMER 3Gbps Broadband every month $53.99

As contract are reaching next month, should i check with Singtel can stay at 1gbs or just move out? Not really a fan of singtel with all the throttling, and also not a fan of ONR, prefer ONT.

Thanks in advance

if you don't watch much tv, suggest you get starhub 5gbps ONT $29.55/mth.

In this case, you can indeed go with the ONT option. Looks like your patch panel is in the living room area where your FTP and two LAN ports are located.

1. Without buying anything extra, the following should work.
1) Starhub XGS-PON ONT (single 10G LAN port functional) --> Main Deco X80 (2.5G WAN port) in the living room, using the 5Gbps plan as 2.5Gbps plan, which is perfectly fine.

Main Deco X80 1G LAN port 1 --> PS5

2) Main Deco X80 1G LAN port 2 --> Study Room LAN port --> second Deco X80 in study room as mesh node.
Second Deco X80 LAN port --> Desktop in Study Room

2. Deco X80 has only two LAN ports, so the LAN port in the Bedroom will not be functional. If you want to overcome that limitation, I will suggest to get a cheap gigabit switch like the TP-Link TL-SG105 (<S$30).

1) Starhub XGS-PON ONT (single 10G LAN port functional) --> Main Deco X80 (2.5G WAN port) in the living room, using the 5Gbps plan as 2.5Gbps plan, which is perfectly fine.

2) Main Deco X80 1G LAN port 1 --> TL-SG105 switch LAN port 1

3) TL-SG105 switch LAN port 2--> PS5 console in living room

4) TL-SG105 switch LAN port 3 --> Study room LAN port --> Desktop in Study Room

5) TL-SG105 switch LAN port 4 --> Bedroom LAN port --> second Deco X80 in bedroom as mesh node.

3. One problem is the area below the household shelter will have poor WiFi, no matter Option 1 or Option 2. The poor WiFi is because of the poor position of the household shelter.

4. BTW, is this a resale unit and the LAN ports are added by you?

5. If you want to use the 5Gbps plan in the future, or upgrade to 10Gbps plan in the futute, you may consider upgrade the main router to Deco BE85 (dual 10G ports, dual 2.5G ports), you should still be able to reuse your two Deco X80 as mesh nodes.

For such a layout,
Is there a better router setup that I should consider for a $300 budget?
For the 5gb starhub plan?

A bit challenging with S$300 budget. 10G capable TP-Link Deco WiFi 7 router are still expensive.

You may want to wait for the price of Deco BE85 price to drop.

Starhub has good value EB810v at S$360 but it is using TP-Link EasyMesh and not compatible with Deco mesh. Deco mesh is also better than EasyMesh as a mesh solution, so it is better to wait.

Hi all networking experts, I am planning my resale renovation and would like to start on the networking plan as well.

Family of 2, in regards to work, we are regularly working from home which requires stable connection for Teams call.

For entertainment purposes, we typically stream Netflix/Disney+ on our TV and would like to watch it at 4K if applicable.

I am thinking of applying the SH 5gbps @ $29.55/mth, will also read up on the recommended routers and mesh to get for someone who doesn't need the bestest & fastest, but rather value-for-money and yet won't break the bank.

Not sure whether ONT or ONR is better for me, but I have read ONR for casual users would be more user-friendly.

Below is my floorplan of 90sqm, with bedroom 2 and 3 having our home office setup. All 3 bedrooms have the datapoint for LAN cable, and the plan is to get a decent performance & looking router (is there any without the spider legs?) and 2 mesh.

I kindly need advise on where to place the mesh so as to provide maximum coverage in all areas of the house.

Starhub routers offering --> no spiders except TP-Link EX510.
https://www.starhub.com/personal/broadband/routers.html (10Gbps capable)
https://www.starhub.com/personal/broadband/routers/smart-wifi-series.html (1G capable)

1. Lower budget --> ONR option with Nokia ONR (AX6000) + Nokia Beacon 2 (AX1800). Zero extra cost.
Example configuration
Red colour location: FTP --> Nokia XS-2426X-A ONR in living room
Nokia ONR 1G LAN port --> Bedroom 2 LAN port --> Nokia Beacon 2 as mesh node (1Gbps only)
Nokia ONR 10G LAN port --> Bedroom 3 LAN port --> 10G wired device if any
Nokia ONR 1G LAN port --> Main Bedroom LAN port --> wired device if any (up to 1Gbps only)
Nokia ONR 1G LAN port 3 --> Smart TV in living room

2. Higher budget --> ONT option with EB810v (S$360) + HB710 (S$192) mesh, total cost S$592
Example configuration
Red colour location: FTP --> ONT --> TP-Link EB810v in living room
EB810v 10G LAN port --> Bedroom 2 LAN port --> HB710 as mesh node
HB710 10G LAN port --> 10G wired device if any
EB810v 2.5G LAN port --> Bedroom 3 LAN port --> 2.5G wired device if any
EB810v 2.5G LAN port --> Main Bedroom LAN port --> wired device if any
EB810v 2.5G LAN port --> Smart TV in living room

Thanks xiaofan, it’s quite clear for me now.

The main difference is whether I want a ONR or ONT (which gives me flexibility to choose my own router and mesh).

Assuming I go with ONT and buy the EB10v + HB710 at $$592, it’ll be somewhat like $50.6/mth (ISP price + equipment price).

My question will then be - is there a real world difference to this setup over the ONR which provides the Nokia beacon? Will average consumers feel a difference in speed over mobile phones and computer usage?

That is a subjective question and every one will have different answer.

Take note I regard Nokia Beacon 2 as a lousy wireless router myself. But I guess it is still okay for users who care more about cost than performance. And it may well be okay for many users who can use Ethernet backhaul.

BTW, personally also do not like TP-Link EB810v and HB710 because they are TP-Link Service Provider models. But then 10G capable WiFi 7 routers are expensive.

If that's the case, would there be any other ONT pairing recco assuming Wifi7 is not a requirement?

The devices we use at home (iPhone 15, Macbook Air, Smart TV, Dell Latitude) does not support Wifi7 hence we wouldn't be able to fully maximise its usecase for EB10v/HB710 anyways.

Edit: After watching more videos and reading articles on Wifi7 - I do see the benefits of it even for devices that are not yet capable of Wifi7, and I assume TP-Link EB810v and HB710 combination is the most cost-effective pairing as of now?

Spoke to starhub. Say I will waive when first bill here. Not sure how true. Haha. But there are reports saying it waived. Let see
