Yes, M1 is using XGS-PON ONT for its 3Gbps/6Gbps/10Gbps plan.
May I ask is this the correct setup.
M1 ONT -> Ubiquiti Dream Machine Pro Max -> POE+ injector -> U7 Pro.

is there anything lacking that I need to purchase?

Thank you.

Any ideas if PoE injector is speed rated?

The PoE injector seems rated gigabit but U7 Pro port is 2.5Gbps. Can update on the connected speed is 1Gbps or 2.5Gbps if you get this PoE injector?
I got the item but yet to sign up any plan. Therefore unable to try.

and I ordered the pro max because it’s newer and same pricing as Pro SE by different seller. For same pricing, I had chosen newer specs instead of SE with POE+

Hi, currently on $31 ish plan M1 500 mbps that is no longer available for new users, should I go with another ISP or request for the same plan to recontract? My priorities are absolute cheapest, maximising the quality I can get from the $30 budget I intend to set aside for. I've had no issues with stability with M1, though I see more options nowadays offering 2.5G and 10G at that price.

Would also prefer not to have to pay extra porting fees if going to change ISP.

Just stay with the same plan, no need to recontract, the price should keep the same at S$30.45 per month for M1 500Mbps plan.

I actually decided to keep my Starhub 500Mbps plan (no contract since Sept 2020, at S$30.45 per month) and not to go for the Starhub 5Gbps special offer at S$29.55 per month, since it is good enough for the use case (not my main Internet line).

Ok, M1 has sneakily made me pay around $40+ per month when I forgot to recontract years ago. They claim that was the usual price without contract.

I think M1 made the change last year, only for M1 500 Mbps plan.

For M1 1Gbps plan, recontract price is at S$40.65 per month now --> they basically push you to upgrade since M1 2.5Gbps plan is at S$39.90 per month and M1 3Gbps plan is at S$40.90 per month.

I see, if I need to pay more shouldn't I be looking at viewquest or other cheaper options?

Hmm, didn't starhub say the new plan price will not change after contract expires on their website. If so might as well get the 5gbps?

My Singtel legendary 1 Gbps plan had expired on Monday and now looking for a new plan. Had read the first page of this thread and 10 Gbps is on my mind. My current home network configuration is as follows:

Singtel ONR + Asus RT-AX88U + Asus AX3000 with Ai Mesh without wired backhaul. The AX88U is at the wall in between bedroom and Living / Dining. The AX3000 is at the Bedroom just beside the living / dining.

I have 2 options for 10 Gbps plan. Either M1 or Whizcomm. M1 comes with the Asus Zen Wi-Fi BT10 pack. Whizcomm is sign plan and buy 1 pack BQ16. My house is 90 sqm Punggol BTO bought in 2011. I have some considerations as follows:

1. If I take M1 plan which cost $63.90 per month, can I continue using my AX88U to make Ai Mesh with the BT10 ?

2. The BT10 second unit need to use wire backhaul to mesh or use wireless to do the mesh ?

3. If to sign with Whizcomm and buy BQ16 (Single pack) at a later time, is it better than BT10 (Twin pack) given my home sq area ?

My plan is to have the best Wi-Fi coverage for my whole house with a 10 Gbps plan.

But why? I'm kind of mystified by this. Wi-Fi in typical multi-dwelling home settings in Singapore cannot even come close to sustaining 10 Gb/s even if some large download could otherwise be delivered that fast from a remote server in the cloud. You might even get only a single digit percentage of 10 Gb/s over Wi-Fi depending on your neighbors, what they're doing, and what you're doing.

And these high fibre speeds are only ever about large downloads (or uploads) that you're in a rush to receive or send to/from suitably equipped wired devices. For example, if you're a professional videographer who needs to download and upload lots of 8K video to meet journalistic deadlines. In all likelihood these speeds won't make any difference even for wired devices for Web browsing, email, Netflix and other video and audio streaming entertainment (even at 4K), etc.

If the ISP wants to deliver 10 Gb/s to your home at no additional charge, OK, fair enough. You'll only use a fraction of it over Wi-Fi, of course. But if (for example) the 5 Gb/s plan is less expensive, otherwise equivalent, and especially if you're going to be using Wi-Fi, I'd get the less expensive plan.

There's also the fact that the higher bandwidth stuff (that you so often can't benefit from) may consume more electricity, raising your electric bill if nothing else.

1. If both stated they support AI mesh, they should be able to work together. But from what I read on this forum, better to stick to same model if you intend to mesh.

2. I will suggest using wired mesh backhaul whenever possible. Both for stability and consistency.

3. In my experience, 2 nodes are better than 1. But then again, it is all about placement.

10Gbps plan is not going to miraculously provide you the best WiFi coverage. There is not much link between the two. I will think 3G is sufficient even for high-end WiFi7. Best WiFi coverage is still about your AP placement and backhaul.

Hope it helps.

Yes, even a wired hop over coaxial cable (with MoCA 2.5 adapters; easy to find) or telephone wire (with G.hn Wave-2 adapters; harder to find) is likely to deliver better overall results than a wireless hop between Wi-Fi access points. Use whatever preexisting wiring you've got if you can.

Amen.

Wi-Fi 7 with 2 spatial streams, a ridiculous 320 MHz wide channel (we've got only 1 such channel in Singapore), and laboratory conditions (a high performance Wi-Fi 7 access point and a single device located centimeters from the access point, all inside a Faraday cage) tops out at 5.7 Gb/s notional speed, less after overheads. In real-world Singaporean "urban jungles" with real-world devices you can't come anywhere even close to that sort of number.

Is this price going to increase once the contract ends?
How long is the contract?
Does it come with ONT?

Please go to the following thread for more details about Starhub special offer at S$29.55.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/starhub-ultraspeed-5gbps-plan-launched.7024290/

1) You may get different answers but many claim that the price will remain the same after talking to Starhub.
2) 24 months contract.
3) This ONT option comes with only the ONT. You have to use your own router. Or you can get TP-Link EB810v (S$360) or HB710 (S$192) from Starhub. Both are 10G capable triband WiFi 7 router and belong to TP-Link service provider model.

You have to provide the details of the location of the Fibre Terminal Point and LAN port locations.

1) Better to give up RT-AX88U, as it is not good to mix RT-AX88U (dual band) and ZenWiFi BT10 (triband) when using AImesh.
https://dongknows.com/tips-and-rules-on-picking-the-best-asus-aimesh-combo/

2) Better to use Ethernet Backhaul

3) Your floor plan is difficult to cover the full flat with single router as the Bomb Shelter is in a bad location.

Anyone else face the same issue?
