If that's the case, would there be any other ONT pairing recco assuming Wifi7 is not a requirement?

The devices we use at home (iPhone 15, Macbook Air, Smart TV, Dell Latitude) does not support Wifi7 hence we wouldn't be able to fully maximise its usecase for EB10v/HB710 anyways.

Edit: After watching more videos and reading articles on Wifi7 - I do see the benefits of it even for devices that are not yet capable of Wifi7, and I assume TP-Link EB810v and HB710 combination is the most cost-effective pairing as of now?

If you need 10G capable WiFi 7 routers, then indeed TP-Link EB810v+HB710 is a very cost effective option as of now for Starhub users.

Some users opt to use 2.5G capable router to go with the Starhub 5Gbps special ONT offer at S$29.55 per month while waiting for better 10G capable WiFi 7 routers to drop price to a lower level. That is perfectly fine as well.

Some users will choose to go for better ones like Asus ROG GT-BE98 or ZenWiFi BQ16 as they do not mind paying more to be future proof.

All in all, there are different options, depending on budget. Different people will have differnt budget allocations. Often home networking gears may not be high on the list compared to a mobile phone. This is perfectly understandable. But then the expectation needs to be aligned with the budget.

Ts, Singtel staff just came to my door, offering the 3gbps, currently using M1 1gbps at $40 per mth.

Advised to switch? What r the pros n cons?

Thanks xiaofan, I will read up and look out for decent 2.5G capable routers as I feel 10G is too overkill for my use-case.

I am thinking of getting a Deco X68 or Asus XD6 (2-pack), but as I will be doing a ethernet backhaul to the satellite node in my bedroom, I don't think tri-band is needed her which is the X68 right?

XD5 looks small and compact which is a plus point for the wife as well.

Deco X68 and ZenWiFi XD5/XD6 are only rated at 1Gbps as they only have 1G capable WAN.

You may want to decide the plan first and then select the suitable router.

Hi I need some advice for my existing starhub 1Gbps plan $40, the contract ended and i am using Linksys MX4200 router. i am using wireless throughout my house.
  1. Can i sign up the starhub $29.55 ONT offer?
  2. If i sign up, do i wait for installation to complete and cancel my existing plan?
  3. Can i use my current router for this 5Gbps plan?

Hi Xiaofan, would like to get some advice from u for the ISP selection.

I am currently on M1 HomePac 1Gbps plan which is gonna due on March 2025.
Existing device in use are ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX6000 & ASUS XD4 pro.

I am being offered by Singtel for the $29.9 3Gbps Enhance Fibre Hm HDL.

My home floor plan is as below:
Fibre point (red cross) is inside DB panel right beside the entrance.
i have LAN ports (blue dots) at Living room, bedroom 1 and Main bedroom.
neU7kou.jpeg

I read some of the HWZ post and understand that if i want to use back my router then i should get ISP with ONT. If so i supposed Singtel shall be ruled out immediately, so would like to seek your recommendation.

Btw, i m at CCK area.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I will rule out Singtel in this case.

so is there any ISP tat u would recommend based on the device i have now? As i don't wish to spend money on devices. Also recontract to M1 3Gbps which priced at $40.9 doesn't seems worth it.
Usage is just some Netflix streaming n Teams mtg.

You can stay on that plan post-contract and enjoy a good monthly rate of about $30, presumably. It includes an ONT, fixed line, public dynamic IPv4 address, and public IPv6 addresses. Just cancel the bundled mobile data SIM (if you have one) to avoid those additional post-contract charges. There’s no obligation to sign up for a new contract with M1 or anyone else.

What you say about the S$30.45 pricing is true for M1 500Mbps but not for M1 1Gbps plan.

M1 1Gbps old contract is probably at about S$40.65 per month. Need to check with M1 if the price remains the same or not after contract expires.

There are different options --> for example, to recontract with M1 1Gbps at S$35.90 per month, or upgrade to M1 2.5Gbps plan at S$39.90 per month.
https://www.m1.com.sg/home-broadband

There are also other options with M1 or other ISPs.

Am amazingly still on the M1 500 Mbps plan, think it costs around $30.

Oakla tops out though somehow at 100 Mbps up and down even on wired, not sure why. I see that this plan is no longer available in M1 website, but somehow I am still getting this deal, am I throttled down to get even less than the 500 Mbps?

Also I do have a rather current Ax86u Asus router, am assuming there is no way I can fully utilize this router due to my subscription, from the 1st page's instructions, it seems like I should stay with the current 500 Mbps, correct? But there are plans that seems like giving 1-2.5 Mbps for similar prices, I am assuming those are still somewhat promo/non-long term.

Not suggesting I am unhappy with my current speeds, totally fine.

Capping at 100mbps over a wired Ethernet connection when you should have 500mbps might mean that there's probably a faulty Ethernet cable somewhere in between your device and the router. Best to test with a new cable and see if anything needs replacing.

RT-AX86U is a perfect router for this M1 500Mbps plan. You may have to check why you only get 100Mbps using wired. That is not normal.

M1/Starhub 500Mbps plan at S$30.45 per month is perfectly fine to stay with --> as you do not need to recontract after contract expires, the price stays at S$30.45 per month.

Of course it is also fine for M1/Starhub 500Mbps plan users to upgrade to Starhub 5Gbps plan at S$29.55 per month if they prefer to get a higher tier plan. Take note Starhub digital voice is not free at S$2.14 per month if you switch from M1 to Starhub.

BTW, some users may soon feel that they are not getting 5Gbps bandwidth with their existing router and then start to upgrade the main router and other gears as well (like network adapters), which will cost quite a bit money --> which IMHO is good. But then this may not be the original intention for those who do not want to spend extra money on the new plan.

More info about Starhub 5Gbps special offer --> how to choose between ONR and ONT option? Which router to buy if going with the ONT option, etc? Please go to the first page of this thread.

Thanks all! I managed to get 500 Mbps on the router now, not sure what was the problem.

Does the Starhub 5Gbps come with a free sim card? Currently my M1 one does. It seems better than the M1 one currently with the higher speed, but not sure whether it is as permanent as the M1 one, that has been $30 for a long while.

Am also trying to see whether I can access a USB drive that is attached to the router, when I am away overseas. Currently I am able to access it in my home network, using Samba. Should I be using AiCloud, or AiDisk, in the Asus app?

in your Asus router app... If your QOS is turned on.. Try turning it off and see if the speed improves
