So meaning to say, bonds will not be as hot selling after tapering sets in. Now is good to go for bonds before taperings?

Other than Reits, any other industry will be affected by tapering? Actually more or less will, lets discuss about the extent shall we?

When the Fed tapers, it will be buying lesser, thus bond price will drop since the demand drops. Hence, it is not wise to buy bonds now.

Since this is a REITs thread, I think it is better to keep to this topic here, and take other discussions offline:)

To add on, so to attract future other buyers of bond, interest payment needs to be increased. This is where a major fear arises... the rise of interest rate can affect other aspects of the financial market...like an eventual rise in mortgage interest etc.

Reits get affected due to their financial leveraging which might see them pay more interests for the loans undertaken. So, if u can find a reit without debt (unlikely), then it's safe. Or find a reit with no refinancing in the near term or with low gearing, it won't be affected too much by an increase in interest rate. Hope it makes sense .... ;)

Ok, the good news is Interest rates do not increase OVERNIGHT. They take time. So if anyone is worried on REITS being affected by interest rates can take a closer watch on bank interest rates instead. This gives everyone time to analyse what the thrend of financing rates are moving and in turn reduce or increase their REITS holding accordingly.

You are right to point out that market interest rate does not increase overnight, but please take note that bond yields can spike overnight (as we had seen after Fed Ben gave his speech during the May and Jun FOMC meetings). When bond yields spike, REITs will suffer a sell down.

No Tasoering soon

Make no mistake, tapering is not tightening, but unfortunately, the bond yield had spiked from a low of 1.6% to 2.7% recently, and had refused to come down from 2.5%. Likewise, REITs, which is "bond-like" investment suffered the correction recently.

Regardless of what we think, the bond market is pricing in the tapering in Sep already. Thus, I do not anticipate another spike in the bond yield to happen when the tapering does occur, nor our REITs will suffer the kind of correction recently.

There will be no tapering anytime soon.
If they taper, USA will go into deflation and depression.(if they are not already!)
The jobless numbers will escalate drastically.

U.S. Jobless Claims Rose Last Week by 7,000 to 343,000

More Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week as annual auto-plant shutdowns continued to affect data.

Jobless claims rose by 7,000 to 343,000 in the week ended July 20 from a revised 336,000 the prior period, Labor Department figures showed today in Washington. The median forecast of 49 economists surveyed by Bloomberg projected 340,000. The retooling at carmakers and school closings typical during this time of year continued to influence the figures last week, a spokesman said as the data were released.

Sincere request to all

This is a REITs CD Tracking thread. The purpose is to keep track of reporting dates, distribution payment and details.

This is not a REITs discussion thread. There are already plenty of threads for discussing everything you want to discuss about REITs. And if its not enough, then you can start another one.

Pls kindly refrain from posting unnecessary chatter and clutter up the threads. Its makes addict's job very very difficult when he has to sieve through all the noize.

Thanks to all for your co-operation!! :s12:
