In the end, do not worry so much about the incoming roaming call charges. Just turn on roaming in the SingTel app. Ignore the call and mostly you are fine.

For SingTel you can disable data roaming on the phone if you do not buy roaming data. Enable roaming on the app should allow you to access incoming SMS. I use eight (or adding Travel eSIM) for roaming to complement SingTel and I do not buy roaming plan from SingTel.

It may be the same for M1 MNO plans but I have never used M1 MNO plans. I have been using SingTel postpaid plus StarHub Prepaid for many years and added eight since Oct 2025.

I believe it is the same for other Telcos. You can check with M1 as well.

Many users facing this issue is to avoid roaming voice charges (so they want to disable roaming totally including data) yet want to access incoming roaming SMS.

So this is less an issue for eight, SIMBA and new StarHub 5G Unlimited+/5G Platinum users. Main impacted users are SingTel MMO, M1 MNO and SingTel MVNOs like Zym/Zero1/VIVIFI/CMLink. Zym now has 10 minutes roam guard to help to reduce the impact of the issue.

SingTel Gomo, SingTel hi postpaid and MY Maxx users are less impacted because they do not support roaming voice at all. So the users have less worries to enable roaming data.

Another group of users who facing this issue is Singtel/M1 Prepaid card users who do not want to buy roaming data plan but yet want to have access to incoming roaming SMS.
My problem with Singtel before I switched my primary line to Simba was because I couldn't get a network in Malaysia, or it took hours.

Back then i was also with M1 and Celcom came on without a hitch.

I've a Malaysia line in my dual SIM phones so never turned on data roaming on my SG lines all these years. Even in Batam I data-roamed with the Malaysia lines.

It's only in recent months that I was made aware of the possibility of my old problem with such discussions here. Strange that it only started happening a couple of years back for me.

I'd no problem receiving calls and text messages when I did get a Malaysia network on that old Singtel line.

Recent discussion on the prepaid thread for reference as well.

Last time (3G days) users could use prepaid card for number parking and access incoming roaming SMS when residing overseas for a long duration. Now this does not seem to be a viable option.

The solution may be to buy a cheaper SIM only plans from eight or SIMBA for this purpose if they have roaming support in the country you reside.

Good thing is that SMS two factor authentication is being phased out in favour of other method like authentication app.

I have this problem with my Singtel hicard where it works fine I. Singapore but just cannot connect to any Network when I'm overseas. doesn't work in Japan and Taiwan already. my roaming is enabled in Android settings and I have another simba card that can connect, so wonder why my Singtel cars has this problem. my phone balance is $12.

does this mean not only do I need to top up the balance to more than $10, I also still need to buy a dataroam pack? I do t want to use data, I just want to be able to receive otps overseas

my issue is that long ago in the 3g card I could receive otps overseas. but after changing to the 4g card, no network connection overseas. and after changing again to the 5g card, also no network overseas.

Pay-as-you-roam is not available for prepaid SIM cards. To use your Singtel prepaid card overseas, you will need to purchase and activate a hi!DataRoam pack...........

FYI I experience this same issue earlier this year and that was what Singtel CS send to me...

Same for SingTel prepaid card users who have found out things are very different now compared to the 3G days.

Not sure if singtel will have "false" data roaming trigger if phone has data roaming "disabled"...

M1 has this issue now if u look at their Facebook post for the worldwide daily roaming.

Just got the reminders that my VAS will end for one of my Singtel lines cos its contract ending soon. Will test link #1 and report back here
New Service Agreement was just sent to me, confirming that I will be on the new plan. Just 20GB Malaysia roaming though, which is something that can be fixed over the Whatsapp?

Have a good Vesak Day weekend y'all

Interesting.

So far I have not heard about data roaming triggered when the user disables phone roaming.

But with SingTel MVNOs (including SingTel Gomo and SingTel hi!) given better and better roaming bundle, indeed many users may switch to those plans.

Same for M1 MMO SIM Only plan users -- not see the values in M1 MNO SIM Only plans myself.

StarHub 5G Unlimited+ and 5G Platinum SIM Only plans are not that cheap but with free roaming voices, the only non-SIMBA MMO SIM Only plans to have that feature. Maybe some users will go with it.

So far I am sticking to the SingTel S$15.28 plan as main line, StarHub Prepaid S 5G backup line for local usage, then eight 4G line for roaming.

But I have tested Zym S$10.1 4G plan with free 5G trial and now SingTel hi! S$13 5G plan, they are not bad actually. Even M1 Maxx S$12 5G plan is not bad for my local usage.

just to check, my secondary line is using the 15.28 plan.

going to reach end of contract this 19th.

if i do not recontract, will they charge me more than 15.28 ? or will it be staying on 15.28 ?

because i wanna port out to any telco that is cheaper as i do not use the line anymore.

wanna keep the number because it's a very very nice number.. so dun mind paying $5-$10 every month.

You can read the following thread with links to the terms and conditions. The price will be much higher.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...low-cost-sim-only-plans-in-singapore.7167328/

So either recontract by clicking the link, or port out immediately after the contract expires.

Not sure if 7am to 7:10am on Friday morning is considered as peak hour or not.

No issues with EWL City Hall to Outram Park MRT (underground MRT stations) with my Poco X7 PRO phone, using SingTel S$15.28 plan

The Singtel line is pretty slow at Raffles Place MRT but still usable. It is pretty decent at the other stations (tested from Bugis to Tiong Bahru)

IMHO.
Raffles Place likely due to surge congestion - more mobiles stayed connected longer i.e the users disembarked from the train will remain connected while they make their way to their offices.

That is why 5G is the way to move forward because the re-connection to the network is way faster than 4G.

IMHO.
Just want to say that my connection with 5G is all over the place.
Some examples,
Poor speed.
Drop to 4G and never recover.
5G but no data.
No 5G.
