Just to share that when I was in China last week, SingTel decided to auto subscribe to the Asia Roaming plan via ReadyRoam, even though my data roaming was disabled on my iPhone.

It charged me $18 for it lo.

I was using my data roaming plan from Klook and set that for my mobile data while default voice line was set to SingTel so that I can still receive SMS.
IMHO.
Can ask them for refund?
Their advice is leave data roaming in the app and turn off data roaming in the phone. So means this is not working for you ?

singtel senior got unlimited 5g+ data for $12, subjected to fair usage policy, at first thought seems decent for those using 5g router instead of fibre for general internet usage no need fear data bundle not enough.

wonder what is the fair usage policy like for data usage. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I only turn it off at phone level and not the app. If app level is turned off, I won’t be able to get mobile signal and won’t be able to receive SMS.

That is why I switched my primary line from Singtel to Simba.

Doesn't make sense to me that we've to leave data roaming on in order to get a simple mobile signal while traveling in order to receive calls and texts. Then without using Singtel for data AND we even have data usage set for use from a different line, charges like that still happens.

Sickening

Granted local connection from Simba loses to Singtel most of the time, but if we want to travel then really got to think how we can go about doing it without such nonsense charges and time wastage having to contact CSO over the charges.

I said "most" coz I'd to switch back to my Simba line for data last night when I couldn't get a network in Sheng Siong from my Singtel line. So ya, I won't rely solely on Singtel, especially not suitable as a main/primary line.

That is why I worry. I am going China soon but China is in the Asia Roaming. So those countries that is not in the list, will be worrying.

thanks for pointing this out.

i'm also one of those who plan to just get another sim/esim with data roaming when going overseas while still being connected on my singtel sim, hopefully there is a setting to not activate any data roaming pack/ pay-as-you-roam data etc etc.

Same issue as M1 too for auto subscribe if detect "data roaming".... seems like singtel also faced similar problem of "false positive" data roaming triggered

For singtel as long as u dun have any AutoReadyRoam that will automatically activate readyroam plan should be not an issue.... i guess

AutoReadyRoam is a convenient safety-net feature by Singtel that automatically activates an affordable, multi-destination roaming plan as soon as you land overseas. It protects you from exorbitant pay-per-use roaming charges.

Cost Effective:
It ensures you are billed the standard ReadyRoam rate rather than costly pay-per-use data charges.

Expert Recommendation:
Singtel strongly advises leaving AutoReadyRoam turned on as a safety net against accidental mobile data usage.

By right this should not happen. What you do is the recommended way to use Singtel SIM Only, if you want to receive free incoming roaming SMS.

We have two Singtel SIM Only plans and we never got S$18 roaming charges with the four recent visits to China with (my wife: three times, me: one time). Same that we do not use Singtel for roaming data but using eight or other means like travel eSIM. In fact, I have never got roaming charges this way for so many years.

Maybe you accidently enabled data on the phone. Sometimes it becomes tricky with some settings on the phone, like dual SIM Android phone.

Example from my Poco X7 Pro.
1) Main SIM -- Singtel SIM Only, not for roaming, data disabled, roaming diasbled on the phone (MySingtel app still allow ReadyRoam).
2) Secondary SIM -- say eight mobile for roaming usage, data eneabled, roaming enabled. Used as the primary during roaming for data and voice.

In the phone, there is a setting to "use mobile data during VoLTE calls on the secondary SIM" which you may enable in Singapore. But I tend to think it may cause issues during roaming.

Maybe you can provide more details.

If it detects roaming data usage, without AutoReadyRoam mean you will pay-per-use I believe.

Indeed. It is better to enable AutoReadyRoam and pay S$18 than hundreds of dollars since "pay-per-use" roaming charges are very very high.
