After consideration I'll be KIV'ing my XZ purchase until at least Sony releases supposed software improvements to the screen, as I place great emphasis on the display quality for phones. From what I see so far and from my own screen comparisons at the Sony stores, I have to admit that the screen is pretty disappointing when compared to the competition.

Kinda puzzling coming from the fact that Sony is a maker of quality display devices. :/

Other than the display, I'm sold on the other aspects of the XZ, especially the kickass design.

May I know what's worng with XZ's screen? I went to J8 and try out the demo set and I didn't notice any wrong with the XZ screen.

The colour contrast ratio is not v good, especially for a flagship phone. Tends to look washed out even when viewed at a straight angle. not even comparing it to oversaturated AMOLED screens of Samsung devices, but rather iphone and my current Lumia 920. I suppose on its own the display is alright, it's just when you do a side by side comparison.

First impression. 2hrs usage. From XS user.
The screen brightness in sunlight takes a hit. At 40%, I think my XS is brighter than XZ. The auto brightness like no use (as usual, not as responseive as iPad).

Battery Life - Screen On, 1 hr gets hit 20%. 1 hr standby Similar to XS

Screen - similar to XS, Arc. so should be acceptable to current Sony user.'wash out comment' likely amoled users 'preference'.

Warm when in use. Similar to XS

That shouldn't be software issue if that is the case coz the viewing angle is not control by the software. The main cause should be the hardware problem or hardware limitation.

An expertise in XDA based on coding, it can be improved, but yet to try as he don't have the set to try it. :D

Yeah this is the first impression i got after looking at the screen... especially i from SGN2.

However watching movie with it, the feel is much better than watching it in SGN2. partly i think is becos of the size.

Yup, but I'm not talking about the viewing angle, although the Xperia Z is definitely poor in this area as well. For the record, I for one don't have an issue with poor viewing angles, as the phone is for my own usage exclusively.

What's bugging me is the apparent poor contrast ratio of the display even when viewed straight on. In comparison to other phones, it doesn't have enough punch and lush colours like for example what the HTC Butterfly offers.

I guess not only because of the size but the HD resolution and colours contrast, it is more pleasing to the eyes compared to AMOLED.
