If got 1 year warranty, but the flap not covered, it doesnt feel right.
They sold you a product where the flap is easily damaged from normal use?
If you tell me the paint work no warranty is due to wear and tear i understand.

But this charging flap should have been taken into consideration when being designed and built.

Doesn't make sense to me though.

yeah its very upsetting.

cos its part of the phone afterall, a functioning part which is critical to its selling feature, the waterproofing.

what is worst is the ridiculous sum you have to pay to get it fixed.

I called the Wisma outlet and just spoke to the pinoy on the phone.

He said sorry, the usb flap is not covered under warranty cos its not a manufacturing defect.

meaning have to pay. cos I asked if I have to pay.

can send to either wisma or J8 for servicing he says.

How much does it cost?

"sorry sir that one i do not know."

FVCK

this really upsets me. I can:

1) wait till my 12 months of subscription is over, then trade in this phone (after i put double sided tape to stick the flap back and conceal it from the starhub staff) and get the Z1. and live with the same problem again....

or

2) I should simply jump to Samsung already.

yes, if I get the Z1, the worn out flap would not set in so fast cos I can then charge my phone with the dock or the magnetic cable.... but sooner or later the flap will spoil right? if I really like the phone, then I might use it for more than 12 months, which is use for 12 months x 2, and within that period, the flap will give way.

its kinda silly to buy a phone knowing that one part will surely spoil and you'll have to either live with the problem (loose flap) or get it fixed and pay at a cut throat price.

its like one willingly pays to be held hostage.

Given a choice, Sony Singapore can either:

1) continue to charge their consumers 50 to 60 bucks to fix this poorly designed and manufactured part... or,

2) display a gesture of goodwill and fix these spoilt flaps for free during a consumer's warranty period, something which I think is a given anyway.

It does more harm than good when they are collecting $50/$60 per flap, as opposed to, vice versa, doing more good to their reputation when they can just replace this cheapo plastic for free.

cos honestly, what are the costs involved for them to replace this flap? considering the spare part, man hours spent, etc.... $5? $10? $20 per person?

Given the long illustrious history and the size of this billion dollar MNC, I think its a disgrace for Sony Singapore to allow something like this to happen.

So here's a question,

knowing that the flap/s will spoil within the warranty period should you open and close it often and that you have to pay to get it repaired, would you still buy the Z1, Z Ultra or the newer Z successor?

Yes I know that many users here will say: 1) I dont open and close the flap often, so it wont spoil so soon. or 2) I will change to a new phone before the flap spoils, so there wont be any issue.

Yeah, many of you guys change phones every few months, or soon enough before the 12 + 3 months warranty expires. But there are some not so rich/crazy users who use their phones for 21 months or more.

Let's not forget about the Z tablet too. thats not something you will be likely to change every 6 months...... So, will you buy the Xperia Z tablet if you know of this existing problem?

unfortunately I think a lot of times Sony comes up with new ideas then kinda suck at it, before they improve the phones on another release..

case in point: Xperia Z. first time they have such thin phone with even thinner and flimsier plastic flaps with rubber... it's obvious for wear and tear but maybe they didn't expect the extent of the damage @_@

with Z1 they really improved it; even the headphone jack (most used flap... at least for me) is water-resistant now. sometimes it just sucks to be the user of a phone with a novel/first idea.

Well, now it sucks to be the first users of the new 1/2.3 camera in Z1.
Maybe the Z1 successor will show its true potential. :s13:

you got lucky with that one :p

every company needs time to learn de la.. it's quite stupid to expect a phone to be immediately "good" on its first try :s13:

some, however, take years and still never improve coughTouchWizcough

EDIT: 4.3 leaked le mah.. somehow I'm not too excited about it, cos it's just pasting the Z1's UI and camera (btw on XDA I read that in 4.3 we can set volume button as shutter, so finally.. underwater photography!).. as well as the Sony Themes. still anticipating for 4.4 :D I'm gonna hold on to this until the Z2 so please gimme 4.4!!

on my fren's Z1, in his camera mode,

he couldnt choose resolution.

but my Z can choose.

is that confirmed? cos we looked around the options and couldnt find it.

personally, i feel that upgrades in OS isnt always a good thing.

one more important thing,

on the previous OS of Z,

under Settings and i think Display,

I could choose the different colours of the single LED light display notification for incoming messages.

for eg, I could set green LED light for whatsapp msg, white for SMS, blue for FB msg....

but now I cant find it anymore.

So now I cant set the colours or change it.

Did anyone realise this in the earlier pages of this thread?

Is there any solution to this?

Not true. If you set to superior auto then there is no option to choose the resolution so you have to choose manual mode.

whatsapp can set its own colour notification in the app itself

facebook and sms i think cannot set.

u must go the app itself and change the led colour, if cannot change, then no choice lo
