I like the previous version because I found its white interior soothing. The low traffic plus the white interior made for a relaxing window shopping for me. The layout was also simple. It was one of the rare instances where I could actually hear myself think when I'm looking at a product.

The current version is like any other mall, a lot of noise and light pollution. Never mind the messy layout. Even the gray version is better than the current one, IMO.

Creative Cambridge Soundworks anyone?

Cambridge sound works was actually brought over by Creative.
Now that coy is closed, used to be number 1 in home theatre speaker.
Some of Creative speaker in the past use Cambridge sound works design/speaker magnet.
Nowadays no more example Stage etc.
Everything is Creative own design.

The old funan had a computer bookstore.
Tech nerds would love that. I always go there when I visit funan just to look at the IT books.

Now it is just kinokuniya having a section of physical books, and even that is going away soon :(

Yes last time no Internet, Wiki only came out years later.
So if you need guide like Windows, Office, Autocad you have to buy the guide book.
Can be real expensive and very thick.
Book store is one thing, last time also have software boutique.
Last time no Digital everything is CD based.
Windows license back than also not cheap not $10.
Last time can be as expensive as $500 - $1k.
Photoshop at least $3k plus.
Nowadays people are blessed no need to pay so much for software.
Can get cheap keys or climb.
Really miss the old Funan, now they turn it into a shopping mall.

This is really memories of good old days.

I used to wait for a gal for dinner at top floor food court every Saturday as she was working for her mum hair salon there.

Sec school classmate. I was in poly. Just that 30 mins meet up I also happy. We accidentally met up while I was having dinner there then become our routine meet up.

But of cos she already start working and meet more successful ppl in their 20s and 30s.. I am still a poor dark guy in late teens.

She start to skip dinner with excuses so we never contact anymore..

Found this on Internet.
Funan Centre in 1994 after the 1993 renovation you mentioned.

Did Funan in 1994 inadvertently foretell the future?
Ukraine was newly independent in 1991.

The banner contains the same colours as the flag of Ukraine. Blue on top Yellow on bottom.

20 years later, in 2014, conflict between Russia and Ukraine started.

28 years later in 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine

Few years later, they demolished the Hill Street building opposite.

I
As a fun challenge, you can try running Linux on them, see how it performs in modern day (though limited to command-line). Linux only just dropped support for 486 and prior in the recent kernel 6.15. Which, come to think of it, is ancient by today's computing standard, being almost 40 years old.

Using Pentium 4 with desktop environment is not a big deal, so it's not too big of a challenge. Anything before Pentium II would be more fun to try. (P4 is the oldest gen hardware I have)

The last great jump is from Pentium 4's Netburst to Core architecture. After that, really feels incremental (and stagnation during certain periods for different companies).
It should be able to run. I opt for space saving gadgets now since a typical flat's room size makes keep a desktop too space consuming. My Raspberry PI is mounted to the back of my monitor.

I started computing in the DOS era, cli is not too challenging for me. Over the years, it's the eyesight that is getting challenging.

Late 90s to early 00s I tried the niche brand cpus, from Cyrix to IBM. Including the AMD K6 / K62. Didn't go for Pentium 2 onwards. Can't tell the difference in terms of speed as there's no slowness.

Only when I run those distributed computing projects, starting with Prime95 (was aiming for the reward if I can find the first 10 million digits prime number). How long it takes to finish computing each test with the currect cpu running 24x7.

This is the photo of the Hill Street Centre. It had a food court on ground floor.
It was closed in 2000 and demolished in 2002.

The patriarch of the Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodles had a stall there.
I ate there and it was delicious.
None of the present stalls in Crawford + Hong Lim can match.
