So good... Wonder if Starhub did this as well. :s11:
Plannning to locate my ONT to my bedroom which is 30m in length away from my TP... Do ST prorate fibre length? :D

the fiber cable used for TP to ONT is 2m and was told is standard length. may hv to pay if u need longer length......maybe it is good to tell them in advance that u need a longer fiber cable...

yeap confirmed..singnet also told me 2m is the maximum or else the signal will dropped...
dunno yours hav the sony ericcsson modem include or not?
the 4 men singet setup team damned good..they know ow to please and modified the guidelines
they place the sony erriccson fibre optic module within the 2 meter as stated/standard instalation and reroute via TRUNKIN( FOC as well) to my already seasoned rj45 cables to my kitchen which is not a kitchen @ all..ala a copy of matrix systems layout...i am very pleased and happy that i don't hav to fork out any other xtra xpenses..very grateful to the 4 men team bought them lunches(they reluncantly accept)

they are all in same uniform, guess they r all hired by opennet
i think it depend on the particular guys attitude.....
my case is that the guy who did the wiring is very carefully.
when he drill holes, he hold a paper container with one hand to collect the debris and then clean up the floor immediately.....after everything inside and outside my house he sweep and ensure that everything is in order.....
i appreciate what he did so i gave a "ang pao" as it was after CNY

but the guy who did the testing just quietly do his job, expressionless, and goes off...

i saw the team that came to do my neighbors, they smoke and i dont feel good abt them....just my impression...

just had my home wired up, main installer was from Bangladesh speaking fluent english on work permit.

This is a very objective matter that was resolved but in no way prejudiced against the worker himself:

- Came on the dot at 9am for installation. Infact the night before they prepared some wiring outside my unit.

- Asked me where I want the TP to be and straightaway said best is at the TV point in living room, many ppl do that, blablabla the usual thing . I said my bedroom.

- We had a 15mins discussion on why I want it in my room and he heavily suggests at the TV.
In the end i buay tahan told him I am an engineer and I know some wireless limitations. Ok he proceed to make a phone call.

- Talked to his supervisor and put me on the phone. Same thing I got from the supervisor, same thing i told him. I did not tell him I read the Opennet website's FAQ and printed the screenshot saying " YOU CAN INSTALL ANYWHERE U LIKE" or so I interpreted.

- Finally agree, guy walked from the door to my room and then told me I will be paying for 28m total in length ($99). I thought blardy hell how come 28m? This is a normal 139SQM HDB flat not some 200 SQM 7 room apartment with 2 balcony and 3 toilets.

- I asked him where's the measurement. Dont even have measuring tape(!). He said he work long time and good estimate. So my mom and I measured total to be about 19++m. Give generous allowance, maybe 22m. I just asked him to install first.

- Installation was done pretty well and neat. Existing trunk reused whenever possible, to my liking.

- Start to chit chat with him and finally he say yes there are ppl who want to install in study room. But still standby the point that TV is bestest best.

- I helped him whenever I could so he dont have to climb up and down.

- Gave him a drink bought from vending machine downstairs.

- Another guy came to set up and measure and close up the TP. Asked him abt the measurement but likely he didnt know much so did not educate me either.

- Finally came up to be 20m, i pay $33. Totally reasonable and fair. 28m is a tio jiak estimate.
But I believe they know exact length because i used up the whole of their remaining cable. the leftover is very little, about 1m. So my initial measurement of 19++m is likely accurate.

Contractors who come install will surely want the shortest length possible and least work performed. I am not against that or purposely hard on them, but i will not settle for 2nd choice location unless it is not technically possible. This is not a "no fish, prawn also can" type of decision.

I still thank them, because they are instructed by their supervisors to mention all these. Their job is just to install for a living.

Lastly, I called up Singnet asking about eXplore Home. You can choose to use analogue line instead of digital @ same price. Usage charges apply , no unlimited digital calls. At least I dont have to put telephone in my room, and I can buy HD TV watch riaos.

Thats all :)

Completed installation at my home :s12: :s12: :s12:

Total: 2.5 hours

One chinese uncle (local) help me to do as his other colleagues must do other flats. Lot of opennet booking on Sat, the uncle said.

Looked like he a bit rushed too.

I intended to put the TP in living room, so no cable issue here.
In fact total usage in service report mentioned 3 metre...way below the max limit....hehehe... (I think they should refund money for under-utilisation LOL)

The uncle advised me the point of ingress from the corridor wall, so as no need to do ugly cabling / trunking inside my home. I am ok with it.

Lesson Learn : Please please disconnect power cable, lan cable, antenna cable etc beforehand if you want to put TP next to them. The uncle accidently broke the antenna cable (antenna head). Even tough he offered to pay for it, I jut let it go so long he did a good installation job.

ok.. GPGT... :s22:
Just to share the finished work.

I put my point near the main door beside a power point because the Starhub cable point is all the way into my home and some of the existing trunking has been hidden by the ceiling box/light.

I ran mine just below the false ceiling all the way to the nearest SCV point. Sigh...does look unsightly but what to do. Better to install now for free rather than later. -___-'''

Just installed mine this morning, paid extra $33 because more than the free 15m. But hor, they drilled a hole outside and a big chunk of cement fell off, they wanted to patch it with silicone but I told them not too as I will ask my friend to apply putty which is much better instead. Even if I don't patch now, when they repaint the building next time will still patch up.

Hi guys,

My own electrician pulled out my fiber optic cable from the TP point while trying to recess it.... I told him to use the existing plastic trunking that opennet provided and use that to recess. He went ahead to pull out the cable and run his own trunking. Sigh...

I'm not sure whether the cable has been damaged at this point, and whether I need to run new cables. My renovation is due to be completed soon (false ceiling need to go up soon). Opennet says they need 2 weeks for them to come down. Are there any alternative contractors that can come down to check the cable and reterminate the point? The TP point looks okay, I will need new connectors and a network test to check the connection of the fiber point.

Appreciate any advice.

The booking for Opennet service is 3-4 months. No alternative contractor. Good luck.

u can buy fiber cable at some shops, they do sell 30m. and signal loss between 2m and 30m is no big difference

Does it matter if i use mio TV or not or just pure internet ?

Received the letter and started reading up most of the pages here.

The question that is still on my mind is:

Why do we not insist to have it in the bedroom (where you use your PC) instead of mendling with cabling later on?

Can someone enlighten me? Is it because the workers will insist you have it in the living room next to the SCV point?

And if I choose to have it in my bedroom, what are the other implications next time? Have to use home plugs to watch Miotv in living room? Im really still confused here.
