I had my OpenNet point installed this morning. Done by 2 locals guys, very accomodating and courteous. Got them to install it at my bedroom instead of the usual "recommended" location.

Roughly how long does it take from TP installation to ready-to-be-activated date?

Will they send you a letter or call you?

I called up opennet to enquire on the activated date and was told it take 6 weeks.

In about 2 weeks time the opennet people will be coming over to do the installation in my parents house. The recommended termination point I understand is at the living room where the TV however my PCs are in the studyroom in the house (about 10 m and 2 thick walls far from the living room).

1.) should I get the termination point to be in the study room which will probably incur more costs?

2.) Use other means like powerline networking or repeaters etc. I am not too sure of the technology available so pls recommend and suggest.

Appreciate all comments and tips. thanks!:)

Wow... so high.

Just supervised (not working for OpenNet, just representing two house owners) the installation for two units in Yishun.

Both units' readings definitely is less than half of those you posted. Maybe because the FSH is just 12 floors below at void deck.

Oh, my own house total run was slightly more than 30 meters.

When you talk about test reading loss, do note that there are a variety of factors that will affect the reading value. An absolute value comparison is meaningless.

What we are more interested to know is to see if this loss is too far off from the expected loss (hypothetical value).

A typical equation look like this.

Expected Loss = ( 0.3 db x no. of termination ) <coupler loss> + ( 0.05 db x no. of splice ) <Splicing loss> + ( 0.4 db/km x cable length ) <attenuation loss>

So for Silverstone, there isn't much to worry. All I can say is when you activate the service, the RSP guy will still do a check and make sure the signal is good.
