People,

I had some issues with Open net in the past, during my first installation window for my Terrace house.

Basically I was doing my renovation so I called up Open net to see if they can do the installation while I was renovating. They said no and ask me to do a pipe with pullstring to my gate.

This is what I did and I paid my contractor to bury a pipe along my driveway at the side wall on the right. On the day of the installation, open net came and said they need the pipe to connect to my electrical box which is on the LEFT of the driveway.

They did not specify this up front and basically the open net contractor was very unhelpful and just said I have to bring the connection to the left of the driveway which is now impossible without hacking.

The point is that open net have never specified on their website or anywhere, where the termination at the gate should be. Isn't it the responsibility of opennet to terminate the fibre to my gate? I mean I already helped them to route the pipe all the way to the gate. All they have to do is just do some hacking and bring the fibre across my driveway to the other side (2 m distance...)

It seems that they are just unhelpful and simply bochap. They don't care about your business. I am really not sure how the IDA contract with them is but their service attitude really sucks.

Try the previous post by some bro here they had used contractors for their trunking
mine is a new house, so wiring are all inside the walls. Is it possible for the optic cables to be pulled through the internal wiring inside the walls? Any recommendation of contractors can do that?

Guys. Must the tp be really beside the cable tv point? Or just an electrical point. Reason is my cable tv points are all not well located and not possible for my Router to reach the whole house

Err... is not their responsibility to route it to the pipe u concealed on the right side because hacking etc within ur premises is not part of their job.

But they should hav inform u tt Singtel pipe is inside ur electrical box on the left of ur gate and the pipe should go there.

Now the only way they can do is frm the electrical box do surface piping n link up to the pipe. From left to right of ur gate got drains or not ? If have ar ask them run piping inside the drains

got big underground drain in front. i have already route the pipe to my gate. they dont have to hack within my premise to access that pipe as it is already at my house boundary. they can run piping from outside to access the underground pipe which i laid for them.

there is a manhole right outside my gate.... so they canrun the piping under the drain. open net did not even suggest this during the first installation. alll they said was i have to route my pipe to the electrical box else it is surface trunking..... super bochap. just like ida. called ida....

This is my TP installation experience:

On 3pm, the 2 OpenNet installers (No manager apparently) came to my unit.

After decided that my unit is best to install TP next to SCV point, I proceeded with it.

Then the installer at first apparently does not want to show measurement test and written things like "043" etc on the "1490 nm" column etc while insisting my mum as the homeowner to sign the form. I told her not to do so and questioned them instead. Hence, the installer kept asking me (As he looks a bit pissed) if I know anything about Fiber. I told them it is ok, since I only get to see it once. (And he LLST)

Lucky for me, the OpenNet side called me when the installers are doing their job. So I asked and clarified with him what is the acceptable range for the test.

He said -25 db, but preferably around -19 to -20db for the measurement test while the "043" thing is more like connecting to MDF stuffs and not an actual reading of the Fiber signal.

So they did the test and the reading is around -20.48 ~ -20.5 dB. Ok, I accepted it.

The problem is, they did NOT provision port 2 since I asked and the OpenNet guy who called in when the installers have arrived to my unit said the same thing that they cannot install for the port 2 and take it as a spare. (Without any use)

So I insisted to ask them if they can guarantee if I next time change from Singtel to M1 (Since the installers only know Starhub, Singtel and M1) then how? Need to pay extra or not. They don't know. WTF?

Since I know I sign up with a good ISP, I don't bother so much for that moment. But just to curious, is what the OpenNet people saying are the truth? I doubt so but due to time constraint, I don't want to be seen as difficult person.

Well, before they left, I still have to insist them for several times about the temper seal. They apparently did not take a picture of the seal, but did take quite a number of pictures after the TP installation on my unit.

I would say, the installer is trying to take shortcut and a bit pissed with them too, not to mention their ladder came with a Singtel logo.

Thanks for sharing. They are installing mine this weekend. Anything else that we should take note? Especially signing form, distance etc?

Thanks for sharing. They are installing mine this weekend. Anything else that we should take note? Especially signing form, distance etc?

Since today is installing my TP, 3 days later my ISP will install their ONT stuffs. I will see how it goes then.

Just remember:

1) Measurement must be taken care of. If you think the installers write their reading without taking a test of it, just f**k them. Because if sh!t happens in future, not necessary about changing ISP, you may need to get OpenNet people come down again, wasting your annual leave instead.

2) Tamper Seal. NBCCB, this thing need me to ask them one? I questioned them like "Since the TP's box is very easy to open (You will see how it is easy, unlike SCV box which requires screwing of 2 holes on the side of the box), is there any tamper seal to protect it" etc.

Make sure that they give you the sticker with OpenNet logo and the wording: "Void if Tampered". Not the "Fiber Inside" sticker. (Why not Intel inside? LOL!!!)

If sh!t happens next time, OpenNet can push the blame to you as your fault and pay up $235 / $400+ depending landed or HDB.

Just like one will not buy a bottled water with broken / missing seal, will not accept electronics products without the seal, why should it be an exception for the TP?

3) Port 2. If you do not intend to change ISP in anywhere near future (2 years or 4 years), you are good to go. Else, the next ISP will get OpenNet to provision the Port 2 again (Which I do not know need to pay $235 / $400+ or not since no one assures me) which can take months.

Hence, do your homework and choose the best ISP that can tahan you long long one without regrets. Some ISP looks set to lose $400 million and I don't trust them based on various experiences, including today's hiccups while other ISP has nothing much to shine on for the IDA report.

4) Punctuality. I did not want to share this at first. Well, I arranged my OpenNet appointment via my ISP that my TP installation is set to today's 2pm - 4pm slot. Guess what. Nobody called at 2pm. So I call to OpenNet hotline (It is given on the letter, 65634273) about Installation & Technical help section and enquire about it. OpenNet will then ask your address, postal code and the ISP you are subscribing (Mine belongs to the last 5% that needs to sign up with a Fiber ISP before installation will take place). The OpenNet help desk said they will get the contractor to call back when they are coming. I accepted it and wait patiently.

However, there was no response for an hour until about 3pm, where the contractor manager called my line and say they will reach by 10 ~ 15 mins. I almost wanted to call back OpenNet again, lucky him.

Thank god, the installers came on time and my story goes on.

PS: I somehow managed to saw their papers, with my address being the second last one coupled with another address located in one of the private estate in opposite of my block's direction.
