Today, two Indian contractors came to my place to lay opennet cables. Apparently, one of the contractors gave a rough estimation that it will take about 20metres to lay the cable from the door all the way to my living room. He say that there will be about $33 subcharge for addition of 5metres. My mum and I are agreeable for the charges but the contractor suggested that he could give us a "wavier" as long as a "tip" is given. My mum decided to ...

Hahaha..you better delete this post..before someone sabotage to report you on bribery..

Update: Singtel call me yest and say tml they are coming together with Opennet guys to my place as Opennet does not believe is their problem. :s8:

My adsl is on hold/cancel as Singtel told me if I vold my fiber plan, then the port they assign will be released to other customers. :s11:

Crossing my fingers. :look:

Finally my fiber is up!! Singtel and the Opennet guys came and the Singtel guy install the ONT and the light was stable after a while. Not sure what they did. When I ask them, they could not answer me. :s11:

Finally 1 month of no internet comes to an end. =:p

hi, hope someone can share their experience. Opennet has pulled their cable into my home and now I am undecided on whether to go fiber. I am having satisfactory speed with Maxonline (except weekends) so don't know if fiber will gives me increased speed. I also have cable tv, does that means my present cable for TV will also be replaced by the fiber connection ?
I think not but hopes to get a confirmation.

Your cable TV (Starhub) has no signs of porting to (or replace by) fiber. Currently only mio TV is on fibre (and still on ADSL). Whether in future starhub TV will port to fibre or not I don't know, but it won't be so soon.

Fibre does offer higher speeds (though overseas speed is still limited), much lower latency and at lower prices. Lots of people can't wait for their opennet installation to jump to fibre. As it is still fairly new technology in Singapore. it is not without some problems.

Wah I think i am very "lucky". Yest night the modem service light become red! When I call Singtel tech support, they ask me to do a soft/hard reset of the modem, in the end the service light become green but Mio TV cannot work and wireless device can connect but cannot surf internet. The only thing working was my desktop internet.

This morning I try and everything works. :s11:

Is my modem spoilt? :s22:

M1 and Singtel offered to bring forward the wait..going to OpenNet direct will get standard answer of 3 months or longer.

Starhub is dreaming and not taking this route

I signed up fibre service with M1 during the last comex, waited 5 weeks..fibre installed yesterday by OpenNet.

Additional information,
If you have made appointment direct to OpenNet and later found out there is promotion going on by Telcos, you can cancel the OpenNet appointment(scheduled later than Telco offer) and let Telco settles it . There is no penalty of cancelling the appointment with OpenNet if informed early

Got my Fibre Optic installed today, along with my custom CAT6 home network.

d8b4f847.jpg

Installation for both was done by my own contractor, and took 4 hours in all due to 95% of the FO/CAT6 wires being concealed behind false ceiling.

The opennet guys didnt bother to measure the total length used, they just gave one bundle to my contractor. Appreciate them staying for double the appointment time though :s13:

edit: On the Opennet report, they stated in the Test Measurements:

1310nm : 0.63
1490nm : 0.59
1550nm : 0.50

Are this acceptable figures?
