Selling points for n5 are likely,

1. Thinness of 8.93mm
2. Better battery capacity
3. AI (deepseek) and connectivity of Oppo ecosystem
4. Success of n3 (eg crease)
5. First sd elite foldable

Est price 2,599sgd.

Ah beng shop put n5 with 5 free gifts.
Oh they're using deepseek?

Somehow this launch feels so wierd. It's like they wanted to release it earlier but met with delays in production and had to delay a couple of weeks. Let's see if they have immediate stocks next week for purchase or have to wait another 1 week after release

I might as well buy two flagship phones at $1.3k each and scotch them so that I have two big screens side by side. I get to have dual CPUs, dual RAM etc.

Only thing now is unconfirmed price. 8g3 being "still good enough", yes, but if thats the only case, then my current N3 with 8g2 is also still good enough then.
N5 is launching with "new" Snapdragon 8 elite that feature seven CPU cores. Two Prime cores clocked at up to 4.32 GHz, and five Performance cores clocked at up to 3.53 GHz. Basically, one Performance core is missing compared to the regular Snapdragon 8 Elite hence the performance increase difference is even smaller when compared to 8G3.

I'm very turned off by the 8mp ultrawide.

how is it going to affect mobile photography? especially for those wide-angle shots (landscapes, sky etc.) it'll look quite bad right? when we zoom in.
No offense intended ....I'm photography enthusiasm. When ever using ultra , my first thought jump into edge distortion and the correction needed after that in photo editing....

Thinking back....be it what phone, I have hardly use more than 10 time in UW photography .....I rather move a few steps back to compensate.

But gotta admit ...I do change phone frequently.

I know of the 7 core 8GE
But u dun just assume the performance by the number of cores, that is a very bad way of "calculating" performance.

It starts with an 8-core CPU but has 1 faulty core in the QC stage. So the defective core is switched off and one ends up with a 7-core CPU. The load will be less evenly distributed or optimised.

8GE, 8 core Vs 7 core
"The OPPO Find N5 obtains around what we expected in the single-core results, but the multi-core figures are a different story altogether. With a score of 8,865, the 7-core version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite is around 14 percent slower than the 8-core overclocked variant, which is the one whose performance cores operate at a higher 4.47GHz instead of 4.32GHz."

thanks for sharing 🙏 but nowadays with software and AI, those edge distortion can be easily corrected.

thing is, usually when people use UW lens, it's to capture more 'space' - faces, landscapes, etc. having more pixels allow the images to be zoom in with more details and less pixelation effect, or blurring.

I haven't come across a flagship phone these days with only 8mp ultra wide. It's like going back 10 years? 20 years?

last time Huawei used to have a special 12mp monochrome lens which serves a special purpose for just black/white photos. 12mp! not 8mp.

Most reviews would suggest at least 12mp for modern day mobile photography.

As i expected what you would post, which u did, is benchmark numbers. Its the same as telling me ryzen 5 7600x is ryzen 7 7700x with 2 cores 4 threads lesser, and performance numbers shows the difference. Thanks but no thanks, captain obvious

Erm, I been using phones with 8series processors and I know the technical specs of each generation.

Before 8genElite, all 8series processors have just 1 performance core. So I dun see why it's such a big issue esp trying to fit it in a slim profile foldable. And yes, the cut out core is the performance core, but the rest also ain't effecient cores in 8genE unlike previous gen including 8g3.

Benchmark numbers are the most objective way to quantify performance differences, especially in cases like this where clock speeds and core configurations differ. The 14% difference in multi-core performance between the two Snapdragon variants isn't something that can be assumed without actual testing. Dismissing benchmarks ignores the nuances of performance evaluation.

Also, It was you that said "one can't assume the performance by the number of cores, that is a very bad way of "calculating" performance." Hence I provide factual numbers to show difference. Contradicting much, Captain Contradiction?
