All these Creative Stage n Creative Katana sound bars are just too short, small soundstage, they sound like mono speakers.
I guess they're meant to complement PC monitors which aren't very big in the first place... and besides, even my very long Sharp soundbar (75% the width of a 70" TV) isn't all that great either... in the end, nothing beats two stereo speakers...

Guys need recommendations.. thinking of upgrading my Logitech z625.. to be honest, don't really like the sound signature .. missed the sound signature of my old creative t3.

Thinking of buying the edifer s351db @ $289

Thot of getting katana v2 but dropped the idea..

Any recommendations? Budget up to $500. Desk quite limited space.. prefer 2.1

My complaint with S350DB/S351DB is that it doesn't have independent subwoofer volume adjustment (It has a bass tone adjustment which behaves like bass tone adjustment), so how much bass volume you get can depends on where you place your speaker/subwoofer. This is however less of an issue if you have EQ, which you should be running anyway.

Oh and the subwoofer bass starts rolling off at ~40Hz which is awfully high for an 8-inch subwoofer. Altho the specs says 40Hz so it works as advertised I guess.

Oh and the crossover between woofer and subwoofer is around 150-200Hz so you can still hear where the subwoofer is coming from. But this is a typical value for computer 2.1 speakers.

But once you get past the negative points, you have a speaker that measures and sounds like how a proper speaker should sound like. Which already puts it way ahead of the competition like z625 (holy **** full-range satellites) and Promedia (treble is borked).

Creative Katana using USB connection for casual gaming and movie is decent and crystal clear main reason was I am not living alone to ignore other family member especially at night time. If want to get loud then get a good pair of headset or headphone for personal best enjoyment of sound stage and surround experience.

Some questions about this edifier S350B/S351DB 2.1 speakers for you since you own one. Is there anyway to turn
off it's bluetooth feature ? RF emit from wireless features ruined music. Any good Hifi/Hi End listener/player would avoid it.

actually thot of not wasting money and try to listen on my z625.. indeed like what u mentioned, buay ta han the harsh mids.

back to the S351DB - actually i not so particular of what u mentioned the 40hz thingy.. dont think can tell the difference vs my z625 woofer. confused about bass tone adjustment .. it can still reduce the bass str right?

yet to listen to S351DB in person.. also was thinking of 1855DB + T5 woofer.. this combo also around the same as S351db.. which one better?

seems like got this problem for 1855db + T5

would prefer something more new.. perhaps even to the extend of klipsch heritage 2.1

Logitech Z407 - $157

Logitech-Z407-4.jpg

This one can put underneath the monitor so if you are looking a speaker like soundbar can consider.
The downside is when you turn it on for the first time it will emit a test tone to check the speaker.

I can't think of any others like others who have tested other speaker.
The next up will be Klipsch promedia but that speaker is not prefect and overpriced.
Setup with subwoofer like Edifier R1280DB with T5, the subwoofer setting must be
set properly for proper bass response.

I used to own the Logitech Z625, it's bass is fantastic but the mid range is harsh and horrible.
I brought the Edifier R1280DB which is good but since it lacks a subwoofer so bass/low frequency
like rumble isn't that as good like 2.1.

So I went back and forth until I end up with Logitech Z407 which I am still using
Creative katana speaker wise I won't say too much about it since it heavily relies
on software for best sound.

I had brief experience with Creative Katana V1, take note soundbar speaker are tiny
So the sound is small which is why software tweak is required to make it sound bigger
and wider.

But of cuz you will question me what about Logitech Z407 it's speaker is also small.
The Z407 isn't designed as soundbar but a PC speaker.
It's soundstage is wide and spacious, there's no software to do any tweaking to
the speaker so just plug and play.
just curious this z407 can beat the z625 or edifiers? quite surprised actually.. not sure if this will be an upgrade to my z625s

Won't say upgrade but improvement when you change to the Z407.
The Z625 which I owned before, the mid-range is horrible and harsh.
When you change to the Z407 you be surprise how good it sound
as well as it's soundstage.

Edifier wise will be R1280DBs however issue since it is a 2.0 speaker.
It's low frequency handling isn't that as good compare with 2.1 speaker.
Sadly I don't have any recommendation for any other speaker.

Don't worry think there are places you can try the Logitech Z407 like Sim Lim Square.
Example Global Cybermind, AllStars should have a demo for you to try.
Challenger wise depends where you stay, I only know Jurong Point have demo set
to try the rest of outlets may not have including the flagship store at Bugis.
yeah i get what u mean.. very harsh the mids.. perhaps i got sensitive ears, hear long already very vex

actually i am looking for speakers like gigaworks T40 series II.. the sound signature for mids are quite nice

Replaced my al621 a few years back. Been using it since 2003/2004. Found the balance wasn't right. One side sounded softer. Then bought edifier e25hd luna. Sounds good but i kinda missed the bass. Bought s350db and still with me. Using optical input.

nice jsut wondering whats yr sounds card? dunno if i should upgrade a sound card from onboard

Edit: just learn that if using optical out from my mobo onboard sound , it won't make any difference since it's digital out? In other words, using optical cables from the onboard sound to s350db optical in means it is using the speakers dac to convert to analog (sound)?

40Hz is the frequency response... in layman words the bass sounds around the same as z625

Bass can still be adjusted

R1855DB + T5 would sound better imo but since you can't use the sub out you will be forced to connect via the subwoofer which means you can't use BT and digital inputs. If space and $$$ is a constraint S351DB is still an excellent option.

Natural herbs, drugs and narcotics can helps strengthen mind, body and soul. Eliminate sensitive hearing.
Poor equipment setup and lousy converted or recorded audio format also cause the audio to be harsh.
I'm using T40, it has well played audio/sound as a desktop size speaker, even better than any small bookshelf speaker.
Just without the bass of a subwoofer. Still play my audio/sound well after 3 years. :)

Which motherboard are you using?
If ASUS ROG motherboard onboard are decent so don't need to upgrade.
Any others a dedicated DAC/Soundcard will improve sound.
It's gigabyte x470 wifi 7.. gonna use the optical output and let the s351db edifer do the DAC

Thanks to your useful info. Hope to hear from you letting members know how your music plays using
optical connection from onboard sound to edifier s350b. (y)

If I currently have the r1280dbs, worthwhile to upgrade to the s351db or just get the t5 woofer and plug to the r1280dbs?
