Hi, i like to upgrade my speakers with a new Rig, looking for wireless speaker to make my desktop look clean.
Budget is preferably less than SGD 500
Wireless Speaker as in you don't want to plug anything from PC to your Speaker? So it has to be Bluetooth?

Maybe look at Kanto Yu? - $499, it has a bluetooth 4.2 with aptx but you still need to have a wire from Left to Right Speaker....

How about Creative Sound Blaster Katana V2X - $419 (wait for sales maybe). It will have a Sub-out cable to the included Subwoofer though...

Wireless speakers also got power cable. You want it to have good connection, some requires ethernet. In the end, also 1-2 cable.

The good ones I feel (subjective) are from SONOS and probably exceed your budget. But also not suitable for PC usage since it will have input lag.

Nice and clean looking desktop speakers can look at Genelec, KEF and Audio Engine, if you dun mind to spend more.

I only recommended Kanto Yu because the requestor is looking for clean setup and Kanto Yu looks sleek and clean.

Sound wise, I think it will definitely be a bit better than R1280dbs but I don't think it will be worth the extra $500.
Main difference is R1280DBS's 42W RMS vs KANTO YU's 70W RMS.
Reviews describe Kanto Yu as inoffensive, soft treble, clean and tight but light bass...

what will u recommend for a $500 budget? Active/powered speakers only. I dont have an amp or intend to purchase one for my PC.

One that has a sub out or a way to also make use of my edifier t5

Is there a reason why you're looking to swap out your R1280DBS? Do you think it's worth getting the T5 sub for the R1280DBS, worth the $?

definitely worth the money.

the bass hits hard. but thats because i have EQ my bass from my usb soundcard. the r1280dbs without a sub is good for acoustic songs but just lacking in bass. so a sub definitely makes it way nicer.

no reason to swab out actually. just money itchy hahaha.. thought maybe another $500 bookshelf speaker will give me a new audio awakening from the current clarity i hear from the r1280dbs.

i using red dragon GS 560 (below $50)..small enough to put below my monitor and good enough to watch movies/youtube or playing games and able to listen to conversation clearly without having to turn on sound too loud. Make the desk neater and the space below the monitor is sort of wasted (the speaker is sitting on top the monitor stand feet)

ofcourse bass in not there. If watch proper movie then use headphones

Wah, if hand itchy, don't buy anything.
Since you just added the Sub, enjoy what you have first.

See what you think your system is lacking or what you wish to improve. Then plan to buy new speaker according to what you want.

If you feel treble clarity is lacking, maybe get one with a aluminium tweeter (Klipsch The Fives) or with an Air Motion Tweeter (Kanto Tuk).

If you want more bass, then look for bigger bass drivers and more powerful amps. Like Kanto YU6 with 5.25" drivers or Edifier S2000MKIII with 5.5" drivers.

Just examples and they're not at $500. There are many good sounding speakers but prices gets really expensive.

Because i believe when we plug into the sub, then the bass will not be on the speakers but only audible on the T5 right? So does that S2000MKIII have better clarity, richness to the audio in the mids and highs that is very obvious to the R1280dbs?

For most pc/desktop users. I will think KEF LSXII is sufficient. Do get a good speaker stand too. There are quite a few nice stands for KEF which could match your desktop layout. If you want functionally, worth a look at IsoAcoustics.

Look like this:

Btw, I tort your budget is $500 initially? Poisoned by the looks of KEF? :ROFLMAO:

Yes, S2000 MK III also has DAC built in, you can use the optical in from the PC. It will probably provide a higher sound quality compared to RB1280DBs. But there is no Sub-out on S2000 MKIII.

Depends on how your Sub-out is configured and if there's any high-pass filter just for the speakers.
T5 already has a low-pass filter so it will only be producing bass.
If R1280DBs has High-pass filter when sub-out is connected, then it'll not produce the bass and let sub takeover. If it has no high-pass filter configured, it will just produce the full spectrum and Sub will fill in the bass.

thanks for your reply.

i dont think the r1280dbs has a high pass filter. dont see any at the back of the speakers. anyway there is a bass knob on the r1280dbs so i just put it to the level 0 mark. but i do EQ the bass on my pc soundcard driver, which makes a whole lot of difference. if i dont EQ, the bass seems lacking.

so sometimes ppl might critique that the T5 combination with R1280dbs does not add much bass, but i assume they might not have done any EQ, or just using it Flat like how Audiophiles like their music to be... then jump to the conclusion that the T5 is not good etc etc

It hits hard with EQ.

Just to share, for my current end of the road setup for two of my study rooms, I would preferred a more flat or “colour less” monitor speakers/sub and pair them with a DAC of my choice (e.g. Xonar Essence One MUSES Edition and Oppo HA-1 or any DAC with changeable opamp) via XLR balanced cables.

FYI, my DACs have been around for many years and those are the hardware that doesn’t need to keep changing unlike PC components (maybe opamp only?), so investing on a good audio setup or at least something your ears like is worthy.

YMMV 😁

As long as you're happy with the sound, any combination will work! EQ is personal preference. Some don't like it, others do. I personally like EQ to help make great sounding speakers more favourable to my personal taste.

@Op_Valkyrie Wow, you really love your Yamahas. I haven't heard them before but i wish i could give it a listen in the future. Only heard good things about it. Does Iso Acoustic help? Currently my speakers are on a foam block to isolate any vibrations to the desk... Still haven't found a good desktop speaker stand yet.
