A month on.. Now 508xg is $2999 at HN expo sale.
An old Pio hd-ready abt the same price as a new panny full-hd.
Shortlisted these 2 but so so diff to choose the '1'

I was there during the 1st day... was really going to take out my CC but hesitated, as what you said its the same price for a HD ready and Full HD... After some research, I decided to wait for 500A... Anyway I m not hurry to get a TV..

** Pioneer limit it to 5 sets for 508GX only...

If you want VFM don't choose Pioneer. If you are willing to pay extra for quality, then consider it. Quality does not come cheap.

My Pioneer is good, but it is no where near 5 times as good as my 42" LG plasma, so if the price tag bothers you, get Panasonic.

Don't worry bro, it is a good choice. Unless you stick your face onto the screen the difference in the number of pixels for SD TV won't affect you.

Read up on the run-in settings etc here

By the way what is the recommended height for the wall mount?


Is it sitting eye level? I need to spare some space for a central speaker below the TV...

Yes, the sitting eye level should be around the centre line of the screen. Many people mounted their TV too high, probably due to furniture limitation, space for centre speaker, aesthetic reason, etc.

50" at less than 1920x1080 does not sound so appealing.
The sales people did point out, it accepts 1080p 24fps signal, but converts it.

The alternative is a FullHD 1080p LCD for similar price (just not pioneer)

Yes, I believe this is not more new stock coming in.
Think the local agent for Pioneer has not been clear on future Pioneer TV product too.

There is nothing wrong with the spec. Is only the reason to buy it now and waiting for the full HD source to arrive or buy it later.

Nevertheless, it is a decent price.
Even though it is HD ready only, in regular viewing, you will not miss the extra pixels much, even when you feed it a 1080p signal.

Yes. Display set 1 yr warranty. I wonder how many hours it will last post display set. They had 3 display sets. Usually plasma lasts 100,000 hours? If it was on 24 hrs a day for 2 years it is 20,000 hours in but that is an extreme ammount of use.
