Pioneer Plasma Thread

It took me some 6 months after looking around, reading reviews, testing different LCDs and Plasmas, and I finally got the 428XG. Even when news few weeks back that Pioneer has stop making Plasmas, not a day of regret for buying this piece of beauty. Overall, in short, this is excellent for TV and high-def viewing.

It was a real hard choice for me... cheaper price for a decent Full HD Panasonic vs more expensive HD Ready Pioneer. Thanks for the reassurance. Pls keep your comments coming.

Just bought the 428XG HD Ready Plasma TV at Harvey Norman today. Was comtemplating between this and Panasonic 42" Full HD TV. In the end I still got the Pioneer although it costed a bit more. $3398 + 300 (additional 4 year extended warranty) comes with free CX-500 theatre system against Panasonic which is $3200 with $500 Shell voucher.

Hope I made the right choice..... comments please?

You should get the Full HD model.

Good choice.

Anyway Pioneer will still be making 1 last generation of Plasma TVs themselves this year.

I have compared Pio panel againist others, such as Panny, Sony, Samsung...still Pio gets my vote and will definitely buy the Pio soon. Even my wife agrees that Pio is better than Panny when compared next to each other. That says a lot about the product as she is not even a discerning viewer!

Pete, I didn't really do a lot of research on this. Just 1-2 days of reading off the internet. A lot of it coming from u and the forum.

I guess I just want concensus that it was a good choice... Singaporean kiasu syndrom...e because I still have time to change my mind ask for a different model from the salesperson. I'm pretty sure now it is the right one though.

There's never gonna be a right choice or wrong choice... just a choice made which you'll either be happy or regret...

You will find Pioneer is brighter due to 1st layer of clear glass panel else other is using the different type. So when it is new, it looks better.

In anycase, they stop making those 50" and below for quite sometime, Although they only announced recently they stop making them.

there is only single panel for Pioneer and LG, and that usually makes picture clearer due to lesser reflection. I dunno what you're talking about

Finally took delivery of the 428XG today. It is truly a sight to behold. Richness and realism of the colour on cable TV is fantastic. Very little glare although the screen is not anti-glare. Was told it is due to depth of black. Overall very satisfied. Can't wait for calibration after 200 hours when it will finally come of age.

Not sure about that... I'm sure our Pio Gurus would know. Was told by the technician that once done, there will be an additional option on the remote to chose another mode called "ISF" calibration. More info here: http://www.click4tech.co.uk/prods/49.html

So do you own Pio? If so, what model and how long have you had it for?

cscs3 has proven unreliable in his information on Pioneer products. Readers should take his claims with a large pinch of salt.

Many said that as long as the plasma is not use for static display for longperiod, we can avoid the burn-in mark. However, I notice that Channel 5 and CNA logo are always there. Pls advise how you guys resolve it.

I am not too bother about image retention for C 5 and CNA because there is the
frequent advertisement break about every 15 to 20 minutes.

Image retention may happen if the contrast and brightness settings on the plasma TV are too high. Try to avoid pausing video games or seeing TV with logos on the top right corner of the screen for prolong hours.

what are the chances that i can get decent display with pc input if my pc has hdmi output? and where would be the best place to buy this panel in term of price? tot of getting this panel for my living room. thanks for any advice.
