While I would rather not recommend the following for a whole bunch of reason

I would probably refer them to the 2nd hand market, something like a "grade b" LG V50s 256GB, which I just happen to see in an ad on a website for $149, while I haven't look too deep, not knowing the drawback of the model, it at least a sd855 and at least a ufs 2.1 instead of eMMC

Not sure if the listing itself is fake or not but got plenty of reviews

The only worry is how long the battery will last. Fact is, you want to DIY maybe also cannot find stock.

For the tech flashers here, do you change firmware to EEA or stay with normal Global?

Have you tried flashing the latest firmware V13 (Android 12) or stay with the old V12.5 (Android 11)?

TIA.

Didn't update, can try debloat & see if you like, if not no harm to flash to custom rom. Using YouTube Vanced which need MicroG.

Using Oneplus 8T as my main driver and bought Poco F3 , 256gb 6gb RAM at $338 after discounts on 4.4 Xiaomi Fan Festival. The price is too irresistible, had to kop it even though I don't really need another phone. Glad to see so many people on the same page. Have extensively researched on it watching countless youtube reviews. Parents out there should just get this for your kids, no heartpain at all, easily can last 3 years or even 4. Give your kids a headstart to quality Android and not be slavedriven and sucked into the Apple ecosystem before it is too late. Camera is average but just remember what you are paying for, Snapdragon 870 is right up there as a flagship killer.
