Hi all, I received the email on being shortlisted for DEI 1st Stage of Application - Tea session with AD. As it is my first time applying for DEI, could someone who has been through this stage enlighten me on what is to be expected in this stage? :)

Is it in the form of group interview or individual interview and the time taken?
If group interview, is it like going one by one or like in a "debate" form?
Possible questions that could be posted to us?

Standard stuff like tell me more about yourself, why you wanna join as DEI, leadership exp (talk about the most prominent one because time limit)

group interview where participants answer individually and you won't be critiquing each other's answers so no debate style

There will be follow up questions depending on how you answer
For me I was asked "What challenge do you foresee if you join the force"
another candidate got asked "You said you want to help people right, why not join social work?" (She answered the why DEI qns badly imo which is prob why she got asked that)

My advice to you is to read up more on the SPF such as what a DEI does, how is the training and foundation phase like (I was the only one in my group that actually know what happens after the 9 months of training at HTA and this info is literally available in the page for the job posting so rlly they 0 effort), understand the initiatives that SPF has (because as mentioned before if you just wanna enforce law and do enforcement then go APO don't come SPF just for the enforcement work as SPF is more than that), know what challenges you have to deal with (remove dead body, work with rape victims, help people who want to attempt suicide and how will you deal with it if they actually jump infront of you etc.)

I only know private uni degrees are not recognised by SG gov. For non-local degrees, I think it will be recognised as long as the gov of that country recognises it too. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Ya, that’s what I heard too. I was from SIM-RMIT. Not sure if that will affect my chances :s22:

Yep I believe the most important thing you should prepare for is why specifically the SPF since there's also jobs of similar nature such as ICA/SCDF/CNB. It'll be good if you know the differences between these organisations and explain why you chose SPF. They will always have a rebuttal for everything that you say so try to just reply calmly and explain yourself logically.

I was also asked questions like whats the mission/vision of SPF, whats the 4 core values of SPF etc! The interviewers will likely maintain a poker face or even frown at your answers so try not to be affected by that. All the best!

Does past interview/application records have a bearing on current interview/application?

Just wondering if the interviewers will refer to past interview records in their assessment for the current round?

I applied last year but unsuccessful after 1st round, will apply again later this year with improved resume and hopefully better interview performance as well.

No experience/and I don't know anyone experienced this. But my take would be that it shows that you want to join the force. They will know you applied before because they'll see it in the records and also later on, they'll ask you to declare. But have faith! You've gone to improve your resume and that's commendable!

My friends friend took 4 or 5 rejections before getting accepted and his family member is also one of the higher ups, So dont give up just keep trying if u rly want it :)

Did a search and found that someone tried to sign on w/ the SAF but the recruiting officer told him "those enrolled to RMIT before 2015 are not recognised". You might wanna make a call and check maybe? Or see if someone else here is able to better help you. My highest education till now is only poly so not very sure about uni stuff... :|

Maybe it's assessed on case-by-case basis. During my group interview last year, there was a SIM graduate who has been out at work for awhile. Forgot if he was from RMIT though.
