the weight.... Not easy to carry books + 2.5kg laptop to school everyday.

Don't bring books. I only bring my laptop w/o charger to sch for my whole poly and uni life.

Even then try to cut down to below 1.5kg, mine 1.58kg i still feel heavy after a while.

I'm waiting for the nyp roadshow. I'm just referring to the Rp site as nyp has not updated theirs yet. We have to wait for nyp, sadly  .

p.s. what course are u going to?

I think all the poly offer the same brand and model laptops... so maybe you can use other poly website models as ref

Actually now i'm thinking of buying the GL553 instead of the FX553 because of aesthetics.

I don't really like the look of the FX553.

Compared to the GL553

However if I decide to get the GL553, I want to replace the 1TB HDD with a 250/500GB SSD(most likely going to buy from it show). Anyone think that's a bad move?

Well u are more or less forgoing the extra 1 year warranty offered by the school though and the 3 yrs omsite support they provided. But if u know how to replace the system without tampering the warranty syickers(if there is) and change. U can do that. But if u bought from IT show. Some ppl say that those ppl who help replace or upgrade usually end up damage the warranty stickers. But still depends on the company.

Just gotten the FX553, performance wise is really solid. But the battery performance is very disappointing, 3~5hr depending on usage, Which is common for gaming laptop

I will replace it myself, my poly roadshow is after it show.

Plus the user manual includes a "upgrading your laptop" section, so i'm pretty sure warranty will not be void because of that. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Does the FX553 comes with a M.2 Sata III SSD or Sata III 2.5 Inch SSD? I was thinking of getting the Samsung 850 Evo SSD to upgrade it, but I am not sure if there is a free Sata III port.

well this really depends on manufactures warranty policy, even if u can upgrade your laptop, doesn't means that the manufactures can fix that defects parts of your own parts. basically some manufactures will tends to void the warranty due to user self mod their preconfig system.

so read up on their warranty policy 1st before doing any thing. or unless u know how to switch back those pre config parts.

Asus warranty policy : https://www.asus.com/in/support/Article/590/
