IMHO.
Only some will understand these. :ROFLMAO:
I agree with you

but under the right lighting situation and within the limited genre, if one is only shooting in areas that are not technically demanding, the improved capabilities of the camera may not be the most important thing.

Actually there are mobile phone photography competitions that are not short of good shots but one thing I notice is a lot of them are heavily processed. I do not know if it is due to them being phone photography or because that is a common thing in competition. There are also others that dun look so processed but I will never know. And even for camera taken photos, some processed them. I just dun like those that look too processed.

here for some of them that I feel are good (to me)

but then I’m not talented like them. I get straight out of cam photos and I dun process them. Camera make it easier for me, I get better shots from my cam than my phone.

Also seeing selected pictures can be misleading, only the person who use it will know if he or she gets more consistent results in their years of shooting

Travel and shooting a whole different spectrum of different genre in different lighting, camera with interchangeable lens works better. But the weight and bulk is all real.

maybe for some their skills are good and their hand phone photos are as good as their camera and they dun need to carry such weight. I will just be the minority

Does anyone hear shoots from the hips? I dun but I think that is one area where hand phone is easier to hold than a camera.

but then in this day and age, doing that will look very suspicious.

I am old skool and like SOOC with minimal processing.
I think of it as mobile phone vs DSLR (or the likes), the latter is a better tool.
If the genre is controlled, any tool will take good pictures.
The challenge would be specific genre or area of interests like sports or events.

That was one point in time that for me, the best feature for DSLR ( or mirrorless ) is the ability to control light.
I am not sure how far mobile phones have advanced in this area.
For my DSLR, I do bounce flash and Nikon CLS. :ROFLMAO:

I more comfortable holding DSLR with battery grip vs mobile phone. :ROFLMAO: I am weird. :ROFLMAO:

A lot depends on one's priorities.

I just came back from a break and was pleasantly surprised to note more than a handful in our tour group still diligently shoot on a mirrorless camera / premium compacts. Good for them.

I used to take my mirrorless camera too for holidays pre 2019. Alas, it's one item too many to juggle with active kids and phones have progressed a lot more to be adequate for most general usage needs.

Having said that, the traditional cameras easily take more natural shots, with better bokeh, precise control, far better low light detail retention and better depth. Just depends if it's in your intrest to take better shots (or have the time to do so) or you're more comfortable with social- ready photos to go.

Nothing new on this topic but just adding on to the discussion stream 👌

i have not used my full frame camera for years,

it so bulk to carry the camera and lens around .
also with the restriction on battery even more troublesome

My aurora chasing friend begs to differ 😆.

For him, it's worth the trouble to capture those awesome moments.

But yes, it's back to my earlier reply - depends on personal expectations and convenience.

Which full frame do you have? :)

May be try Ricoh GR4 or Fujifilm X100VI? Both are small enough and light enough yet produce as good quality SOOC images (no need to edit RAW images) as bulky full-frame cameras that is at least 3x more expensive? (as long as you do not need to print the image on a A0 size paper)...
Haha, I think I value something slim enough to slip into my jeans pocket

I do not forsee how mobile phones would be able to advance in these areas:
1) Mobile Phones because of need to be slim & small size, can only use small camera image sensors that performs poorly in low light conditions and do not produce the kind of sharpness capable of by large camera image sensors used by DSLR/mirrorless digital cameras. (and No, very high pixels number produced by phones' cameras do not produce "high quality" images!)
2) Mobile Phones won't be able to install specific dials for you set the Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO values quickly like typical digital cameras (when using Manual mode), and also cannot easily perform exposure lock and focus lock.
3) Mobile Phones flash are very weak compared to those of digital cameras like Fujifilm X100VI.
4) Mobile Phones will always perform poorly when capturing objects moving at fast speed.
5) The dynamic range of mobile phones will always be poorer compared to digital cameras because of the smaller, poorer, and cheaper camera image sensors.
6) Video quality captured digital cameras will always be better than mobile phones as well because of larger and better camera image sensors.

Other than digital cameras produce higher image/video quality and can easily change battery when it goes flat, I want to preserve my mobile phone mainly for checking emails, reading news, and emergency when people can contact me or I can call out without battery falling flat (if I use it to take photos and videos on holidays) and we cannot change the battery on-the-fly in mobile phone nowadays.

Still bring along my fuji mirrorless and film camera for holidays but my fomo is getting a little tiresome. Putting both in my bag with lenses is quite heavy. So no choice, can only select one format for the day. But I love taking pictures of everything so will bring telephoto lenses too. Up to 200mm. Wide angles nowadays not so much. For lazy times, just use mobile phone with 200 MP mode, it's quite surprisingly good.

That’s not weird

that is for you to quickly switch between horizontal and vertical grip rite?
IMHO.
Not really - more like my natural way to hold the DSLR camera. The battery grip rest on the base of my left palm while my finger can grip the lens. My right hand free to change settings. So basically I am holding the camera with my left hand.

For mirrorless, I need to grip the camera using my right hand. So the battery grip is important for me.
