Problem/s with Win8 - Post Here !

I had the same problem as you when upgraded my Win7 to Win8. Some websites suggested that antivirus might cause the metro tile not working. Uninstalled Norton antivirus and the metro tile works. Re-installed Norton and metro tiles still working. You might want to try uninstall your antivirus and see if it works.

Finally problem solved.
I did uninstall mcafee antivirus however that did not solved the problem. Had to run an mcafee uninstall tool to totally remove all traces of the antivirus and it worked.
Now all windows functions are working flawlessly.

P/s Did try to return to windows 7 using recovery disc, however after installing the 3 disc successfully, windows 8 keeps restarting. no trace of windows 7. Anyways windows 8 working now, will stick to it..starting to enjoys the speed.

XP 32-bit to 8 64-bit not upgrade?

I have been calling MS for 4 days and am still not satisfied. Long story short. I am trying to upgrade XP 32-bit to Win8 64-bit. I couldn't do it via the online upgrade assistant method. Tech support told me to download usb or ISO file and reinstall from media, still couldn't get 64-bit. Tech support asked to request from customer support to have link to download 64-bit media. Customer support told me same link provide installation files for both 32-bit and 64-bit. Later checked and told me 64-bit upgrade only available from retail so refunded online and went to buy retail upgrade box. After installing 64-bit from CD found cannot activate, called tech support and they told me XP 32 bit can only upgrade to Win8 32 bit. Need to install XP 64-bit to upgrade to Win8 64 bit.

I am baffled. Why one cannot upgrade from XP 32-bit to Win 8 64-bit? Is this not considered a version upgrade?

Why no one from customer service or tech support told me this cannot be done until I have wasted time, effort and money to learn it the hard way?

Try this method to see if it can be activated,

- Open regedit by pressing Windows-q, entering regedit and selecting the result from the list of hits.
- Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE/
- Change MediaBootInstall from 1 to 0
- Go back to the start screen and enter cmd there.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select to run it as administrator.
- Type slmgr /rearm on the command line and hit enter.
- Reboot Windows now.
- Run the activation utility afterwards, enter your product key to activate Windows.

Immediately after installation, I replug my 2 other SATA Hard Drives and it just hang there...

Plug in one at a time & let it initiate properly. Make sure motherboard drivers are current, if mobo website not updated, use Intel/AMD reference drivers.

Do you have any form of security / system utilities software Norton/Mcafee/Avast/etc running?

This guy disabled Avast and everything was ok.
Brand new windows 8 upgrade install live tiles do nothing

I would suggest not installing current copies of the above because they do mess up Windows if they are not specifically written for Win 8. Plus, Win 8's in built security (Firewall, Antivirus, Antimalware) is more than sufficient for normal users.

On 32-bit Win7, Norton Internet Security 2013, inplace upgrade to Win8. No issues with NIS. NIS is more than Firewall & AV. I use Spam filters & Password manager everyday also + NIS is cheap & have better detection/cleaning ratio than many other packages.

Unfortunately Asus hasn't done **** about it.

my problem with windows 8 pro... I used the IE to view poems, and in the live update of stocks... the stocks are flickering... then it crashes... strange... but when I view it in desktop mode, it is also flickering but does not crash... the error is bad_pool_head...

Have you updated to Java 7 Update 9? Cleared the cache?

They probably think you have your 64bit XP and are trying to upgrade to Win 8 64bit. Likely a miscommunication since eventually the tech support told you you can only do so with Windows XP 64bit. I think they have specifically mentioned 32bit can only upgrade to another 32bit.

Don't think 32bit can be upgraded to 64bit like that cos maybe some older hardware does not support 64bit. Even when i bought my Windows 7 retail box, they have both 32bit and 64bit DVD inside.

But why is it that when 64bit upgrade failed and there's a 32bit available, didn't you suspect anything or tried to research on it yourself before attempting any further purchase?

Well.... the CSO over there prob tot u have a 64 bit xp.

32 bit programs are compiled differently from 64 bit ones; different pointer sizes, different primitives sizes etc. U can't just upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit without replacing practically every files aka clean isntall

I'm the administrator for my com, but after i uncheck the box for entering my password in the log on screen, restarted the com, and now when there are apps/files to run, a user account control prompt appears but i cannot click yes, cos it is blanked out.. It states to key in the adminstrator password to continue and click yes, but it doesnt have that option anywhere to allow me to key it in.. Help please..

If you're talking about the Audio issue, goto device manager & try to update the driver.

You MUST have a password. Reenable it in Settings -> PC Settings -> User.

Hello all!

I have this frequent drops for my wired internet connection on Windows 8. Its like you use till halfway, suddenly the internet dc (but the router is still showing the connection). All I had to do was to disable the LAN port, and re-enable it and the internet connection comes back.

Any knows how to solve this?
