So i've finally had a chance to go and see actual diamonds at one of the jewellers, after reading so many pages and trying to understand all about the 4Cs involved in choosing a diamond.
Prior to my visit I'd informed the folks there that I would like to work within a budget of between 6 and 8K for the stone alone, and would like it to be eye clean.
My own conclusion is that looking at the stone with the naked eye I really couldn't tell the difference between say, a VS2 clarity versus a VVS1. Which is right, I suppose, in that these are supposed to be visible only under scopes.
In terms of sparkly-ness I also couldn't tell at all in a blind test which was which.
In terms of colour I couldn't tell between E and F, but could tell very faintly between D and F. The salesperson also, for comparison, showed me a really yellow diamond - i think it was beyond K - and this was immediately apparent.
In the end, two were shortlisted:
0.77 F VS2 at $7400, and 0.65 E VVS1 at $6350.
Both I understand to be Super Ideal cuts. I requested for the images of the GIA certs, but the salesperson omitted it in her email to me - I will be asking for them though.
But as a matter of curiousity, which would you go for?
