I bought the engagement ring for the gf from Michelle.

She was very patient with me when I went for my appointment even though I started at 6.30pm and ended well after closing hours.

After selecting the diamond and setting, I went home and over the weekend I pretended to show the gf a few rings. I purposely say "wah this one nice", pointing to the design I selected and she said "so ugly". I almost fainted and texted Michelle immediately that I want to change the setting, which she responded quickly.

I went down to JP again a few days later and selected a new setting (which my gf says it is nice) and Michelle attended to me patiently again. She also kept e updated on the progress of the ring while I was on overseas business trip.

The biggest WTF moment was after collecting the ring, my gf pointed out a design on JP's fb page and say "so nice" and it was not the one she said nice initially. When shown the one I changed to (which she said nice), she said "eeyer not nice".

I almost cried.

My first appointment was with Michelle last week & she had a bit of an attitude. Couldn't be bothered to explain anything about diamonds & was very unwilling to pull out the different shapes I requested to look at. She didn't really pay any attention to us & kept playing with her phone. Perhaps I look too young to be serious about getting a diamond + bf gave a very low budget of around 2k to see what we could get at that price. LOL

We just went for another appointment on Friday with Casey with no idea what shape I wanted, & he was super patient with me, going in & out of storage to bring out the different shapes & different sizes. I think he made at least six trips! Also, he was nice enough to pull out their latest stock to find a diamond with my ideal specs. IMO bring your gf to pick the diamond at least. I originally wanted only a .35 but it turned out that a .4-.6 gives me the finger coverage that looks good to me. Modest enough to wear proudly on a daily basis. For reference, my finger size is 14(asian sizing). Go asap if you are getting a Brellia cos their stock just came in & I already got mine. =D So happy with what I got~

If you are planning to buy without your gf, I would suggest erring on the side of larger. Not that bigger is truly better, but because girls can be brutal bitches. One of my friends got a .23 & her friends keep commenting that it's too small & cheap. It really bothered her because they think badly of her fiance. No matter what, they are still her friends. And even though you can always upgrade later on, there will only be one proposal ring.

IMO brellia is very elegant & royal. JP also has princess cut & angel cut. My white balance is also quite developed from all the photography I do so I start spotting yellow from F onwards (I know, my poor bf right? Hahaha!) Just enough to register as "not quite white".

Nice! Your diamond looks big man..
Do you have close up photos of the side of the ring? Want your ring design :)

Thanks Bro. :) I don't have a close up of the side of the ring but I do have the 3D rendering that JP did for me. My setting is quite common tho =:p

Issit? I thought the more common ones are the plain ones without side diamonds. Some of my friends told me that the side diamonds can cause the main diamond to look smaller.. but your main diamond still looks very big le.. maybe cos it is very big in the first place :s13:

Hmmm... guess the thickness (width) of the ring plays a part, the thicker the width the bigger the melees or more melees , thus may take the focus off the main diamond? Mine is tapered from top (thin) to bottom (broader), so probably that's why the illusion of having a "big" main stone. :s13:

It's the thought that counts lah, I'm sure she knows that you did your best. XD And now she can say "my fiance did the whole thing himself & surprised me leh!" Hahahaha! It's not the ring design or how big the rock is or how the proposal was done, but the person who proposed that really counts. Congrats!

:s13::s13: who amongst us doesn't want to impress our miss, but the question is how far?

It must be very hard to be on your position, If time and $$$ are not in question, things would be easy.....but that is not the reality for most of us here. :D

I would like to ask if HCA is only applicable to the Super Ideal Cut? How about Solasfera? Thanks~

is a 0.46c E VS1 HCA 0.7 worth buying at $3150?
I got another option of a solasfera 0.36c at $2900. which is better value?

anyone recently visited tiffany or other tier-1 jewelers and has a rough gauge on the prices?

This diamond has a HCA score of 1.0, which is a step in the right direction. It's a very good score.

Any scope images to share?

Got it from Whiteflash but when i returned the other day it was sold off..

guess good things won't be there for very long...

WF provides ASET scopes and similar pics.

The HCA can only be used for the 57 facets round diamonds. It's not applicable to the different shape diamonds or the modified round types.
It's more of a filter tool to weed out the poorly cut diamond only..
To find a good one, you'll still have to use the scopes.

This shows how the HCA can be misleading sometimes..

A 1ct Tiffany would be over 20k++ for sure.. At about 20k, the 1ct they offer is the lower colors like J colors with low clarity.. Be prepared to pay double for the brand ;)

thanks! so recent days i have been sending these jewelers price enquiries and some are nice enough to provide an online quote but of course disclaimer is price subjected to change without notice.

V_n Cl__f & _rp_ls: 1ct E, VVS2 S$36K+
C_rt_er 1.1ct G, VS1 S$26K+

I gotten my gal a 0.7ct solitaire (G, VVS1) from T_ff_ny at least 5 years back and dug me a 13K+ hole to fill... but it is my 10 years anni so i hope to make it special.

Any comments on Hearts on Fire, Brilliant-rose (AGS) and Destinee (GIA) please? I tried to google but most discussion are years back, nothing very recent. Any one has insights to whether BR and Destinee are indeed certify by AGS and GIA?

Thanks.

If I am not wrong Destinee is AGS, BR is GIA. :)
