Went to JP today & was shown a 0.51 F vs1. In e end, it was e 0.53 vs2 E, VS e 0.51 F vs1. I choose e 0.53 cause of its color, it does has a slight inclusion, which don't seem visible to e naked eye.

Thx everyone for e help & advices! Appreciate much!

What happened to the 0.55?

Sorry bro
0.51 F VS2 Price: $3650 (inc GST, exc setting)
0.47 G VS1 Price: $3050 (inc GST, exc setting)

Ah Bro still with the .51ct if the 600SGD difference is not much of a burden, but thats the price you have pay for a nice Color F, and clarity wise VS2 are still a Nice range. Whats going to be a plus factor is, it being a half carat....

But if the price will hurt you as much as you want to save, then .47ct is a nice size reserve the price difference for the settings that you desire.

Hello everyone, so then in recent months I've been increasingly looking to plan a proposal to my gf, and I generally like to plan things ahead of time, including budget. This is expected to happen early mar 2014 (yes I know it's early days yet, heh).

I've been looking though a number of pages in this thread, and generally I think I'm looking for a 0.7x ideal (or if I end up at JP possibly Super Ideal) cut, with perhaps VVS2 - VS1, F-G colour? These are just figments of my imagination, though, and I say that because I think fundamentally I'm looking for something that I would find pleasing and that may not be the case even if I find something that fits into the criterion.

With that in mind, however, any one has any suggestions as to how much I should be expecting just the diamond to be, as of now? I'm aware that prices do fluctuate, as with all things.

Also, how much would say, a half-eternity setting cost if I may ask?

Thanks very much for any ideas and suggestions!

You wanna get a round solitaire or cushion brellia? The latter is slightly more expensive, IIRC.

0.711 E VS1 at around $7.5k excluding setting.

Not sure about round ones, though. You can always email them your desired specs of the diamond and ask for a quote!

Thanks for the reply. Any suggestions on what type of Clarity characteristics i should avoid?

Ya pinkpink86, personally I think it's important to view the diamond to determine the clarity. But a VS2 and above will be a good gauge to an eye clean diamond. Sometimes an SI1/2 diamond can also be almost eye clean if it's hidden away nicely behind all the sparkles. Haha!

Hahah good one bro! Nothing wrong with early planning! Haha. Well I think a half eternity band is also dependent on the numbers of diamonds and the size and characteristic of each. On this forum I think people are posting their eternitys costing about 1-2k. More diamonds, higher quality, designer cuts = more expensive!

You can use online portals like Bluenile and white flash to get a good approximation of the cost of similar characteristics. Unless you end up paying for brand/designer cuts. Haha. To get a better estimate don't forget to factor in 7% extra for GST for costing.

Thanks for the reply! Was actually thinking of a round solitaire .. I'm also particularly interested in comparing between the super ideal and the solasfera. Whilst on videos it does look like a no-brainer, through feedback read some still choose the super ideal due to the difference in the flashes?

I saw the Super Ideal and Solasfera... would prefer the Super Ideal too! The scintillations for the Solasfera doesn't speak to me somehow. You can email the guys at JP and arrange for an appt.

Do give them your desired specs of the diamond + budget... and see if they can work out something for you! Good luck!

The box with LED doesn't works for me. Do you know any other place selling?

Have you tried going to Jewelry Shops? Do you have any design in your mind? If you dont have and just planning to browse around, Ebay is the #1 suggestion.

Hi Everyone,

First of all, i would like to thanks the thread starter as well as all the forumers who gave their valuable inputs and assistance to those who in need of help/advice.

I'm a newbie towards diamond and had lotsa questions. Best thing, dont know what to ask. After reading through more than 150 pages of posts, i became extremely clear where to go and what to do.

I'm one of those who didn't really visit other jewellers except Goldheart, SK and Canary. Not much comments about them as I only want to take a look at their signature diamond and didn't ask too much. Thanks for those "reviewers" by the posters here gave me great understanding between different jewellers.

Ok long story short. I went to JannPaul today and...... Yes, reserved my stone already.

I was attended by Sam, a very nice guy who gave me very detailed diamond education as well as showing me Super idea cut and Solasfera diamonds.

After comparing 0.65, 0.73 and 0.8 Super ideal, i settled with 0.79 Solasfera instead.. haha

I seriously appreciate the guys who shared the prices here and im going to do likewise. 0.79 G VS2 Solasfera at 7950 without setting. I saw a design somewhere and got them to customize for me too with little sidediamonds at 850...

The only thing i do not like about this stone is there is an inclusion which can be seen on the scope. However, it's still eyeclean and hence, i reserved it!

Scope pictures will be only available in 2 weeks time. Keep you guys posted!

Ciao...

Hi guys, pardon me being diamond noob here. i read that there are few kinds of diamonds? Solitaire and Solasfera diamond, anymore? what are the main differences between these? Hope i can get some enlighten here.

Yesterday i was down with my gf to the retail outlets at Goldheart etc. she saw this 1.07 Carat Solitaire diamond, G colour and VVS2 that cost a whopping $15k+ with high settings and she's in love with it. Is the high price because of the Solitaire? It was really nice though. she told me she wants this kind of settings and around 1 carat size. I asked if she is okay with those not from the retail outlets and she was abit waivering. How do u guys persuade ur ladies to accept those not from goldheart but GIA certified? Because i have set my budget to be around $10k only.

She actually has quite a number of friends whose husband bought it from not retail outlets and their diamonds are not shiny anymore after about 6 months, some of them their diamonds even dropped out a few times so need to go back and get it rectified. thats why she's quite skeptical over these. I thought of going to JP too. but i believe girls being girls, will want their boxes to be of some brand when proposed to?

Any input will be appreciated guys ! thanks in advance ! cheers :s12::s12:

Hi kaysee, one option to have is to bring her to JP... and show her the diamonds from there. I'm sure since she likes the one from the retail shops so much, she'd definitely remember how the diamond "sparkles" and "speaks" to her.

I dare say that with the same specs, you can probably get it at < $15k. Or, should I say, you can get a diamond with better specs for lesser $$ at JP. I brought my gf to JP and she said the diamonds there are excellent after comparing with those from the "branded" shops.

At the end of the day, you might very well be paying for the "branded" box. Nobody can really tell where you bought the ring from (well, at least I can't); and all the specs which girls compare will probably be the size (and how it shines, for some).

To address your question on solitaire/solasfera, the solitaire has lesser facets compared to the solasfera (91?). The latter has 10 hearts & arrows vs the super-ideal solitaire which has 8 hearts and arrows. The fire and scintillation from the solasfera is different too.

The best solution is to head down and take a look for yourself, because "seeing is believing".

Good luck!
