Basically, you should be wary of the ones that are many many years ago type. And as long as the jeweler is reputable, it should be fine.

I want to rant abit. Having heard so much good reviews about jp I must say that I'm slightly disappointed. After downpayment was made for the rock, they do not seem to be interested anymore. I followed up via WhatsApp with my gf ring rize and some questions on the ring details as well as requesting for the scopes but have not gotten a reply for 4 days.

Before payment I asked if the scope would be sent and the sales person said yes but no news till now and they do not even reply my text with a holding message or something. I do have to say before deposit was made service was excellent with fast replies on my queries.

Anyone experience this kinda service from Jannpaul before?

Yup. I experienced this when I bought my diamond. It felt transactional because once I placed a deposit, I had to ask for the scope to be sent to me, and even when the ring came, the salesperson R didn't inform me and I was the one who contacted him to ask. Subsequently when I went back, he didn't seem to attend to me as well, not even a hello. Before I collected and left, I still went to thank him as well. The whole experience is just like 'okay, he's another customer and once I'm done with him, I'll move on to another'.

To be fair，I also went back to resize the ring, this time I looked for other staff instead. There was this older lady who attended to us and share with us her thoughts as we ask about wedding band. There was one or two other staff who were quite nice too, even recognizing us when we returned again. Perhaps the service differs depending on the salesperson or staff.

Thanks for sharing jewellers who do. May I know how much does it cost? Or do they do it for free as long as I purchase either one of the ring component (loose diamond or setting) from them?

Nothing is free in this world. If a jeweller offers it to u for free, most likely it’s been factored into the stone cost.
If u buy the stone from JP it’s $550-600 (plain setting)
If u buy the stone from canary, I’m not sure but they will charge $700-800 to set an external stone.

Why I always prefer AGS grading over GIA?

AGS recently introduced advanced ASET scans into their report which really makes a GIA triple ex crap

They definitely look different, not only by characteristics of their fire and scintillation but by their unique shapes, pair that with a desirable setting design, girls do want a ring that suits their taste you know. For example I’m attracted more to higher scintillating diamonds which is why I’ve placed a down deposit for a shipment of their decagon I’ve seen the prototype

If it helps, I got the cushion brellia recently myself and feel that its definitely worth it. It's extremely firey.
I already one already reserved and in the designing process. Got exactly what I wanted and a beautiful touch they have done for me was to add cushion brellia melee diamonds which I didn't know was possible.
The custom cut melees are more expensive than the rounds too but I figured that the cushion has such large fire, it's worth it to bling up the entire ring.

Overall, I'm extremely impressed with the entire process. My SO loves the cushion and their suggested design exceeded her expectations. This is the current superimpose they did on her hand photo.

About the pricing, I was told there is more carat wastage incurred when cutting the brellia. So you are right there is about a 5-10% difference in the price compared to the round. But very worth it if your gf wants the best performing cushion.

P.S. If you guys want to know, I was served by a lad named Jerome. He is very friendly and no hard selling at all. He knows his diamond stuff well and I'd recommend anyone to look for him.

Was looking at this pokemon themed wedding band from Venus Tears and they quoted me approx 2.4k per pair? They mentioned something like they use platinum so it's more expensive and I can optionally choose 18K gold instead. Also, only the female version has a diamond (0.014) on it. Is this considered overpriced? Because I heard from my friends and they said their bands can be gotten under 1k per pair?

Platinum does cost more than 18K gold, but looking at the other factors, I feel you’re really paying more for the Pokémon theme rather than what it would actually cost and hence $2.4k seems a bit overpriced in my opinion.

If you are not particular about it being Pokémon theme, you may want to check the pricing for a pair of normal platinum wedding bands that also has a small/similar sized diamond on the female’s ring, and then maybe you can see the price difference between a themed and non-themed.

Personally, I feel that below $2k is still reasonable for a pair of platinum wedding bands (perhaps a simpler and plain ones if your engagement ring is already sparkly e.g. halo with pave setting). But I’m not too sure if you can get a pair below $1k for platinum if there is a diamond on the female’s ring. If time permits, just ask for prices from different retailers and compare. If the majority quoted you $x, then I guess $x is a fair price?

Don't believe they carry pear shape. Can see what they carry on their website. Solasfera, octavia,octagon, cushion. But you can always call and ask.

I believe JP only carry their signature series (SIC Round Brilliant, Cushion Brellia, Solasfera Round, Octagon). New 10 H&A Cushion, Decagon and one unknown H&A Round coming this year. For radiant/pear shape, I think you can get it under House of Hung. But the way a radiant/pear diamond is cut will never achieve the same performance like a round.

SIC actually refers to their diamonds that abide to a set of tightened proportions and maximum light return. If you like radiant their octagon hearts and arrows is the go to. They’re all SICs

Their octagon hearts and arrows can be a radiant replacement, as the rest said it’s not only their rounds, their other patent cuts are different in shape and arguably perform even better. Use the square rotation of the octagon if you want to have a radiant look. Unless you’re looking for a rectangular radiant then that’s different altogether. Note even the best radiants is extremely poor performing, very dull under white light and crushed ice sparkle in led light.

IIRC JP gets shipments once every 1-3 months and it needs to pass their extreme quality control. Did you custom order? From what I know, my friend custom ordered a 1.1ct Octagon but the specs varies F/G VS1/VS2. No one can control the rough and what exactly comes out.
