I’m not gonna mention the shop name until I verify something?

1. I went to my mom’s private Jeweller who is also rated quite high on Google.
2. That Jeweller gave me some quotes and sent me another cert few days back.
3. Visited them again to see the stone, had soft copy of cert with them as well.
4. Visited JP few days later to compare the cert, and was greeted by Casey one of the partners, he showed me that the diamond is still located in India and never left India ever, even video conferenced the cutter in front of me to verify.

Am I missing something out here or my moms private Jeweller just punked me with a different diamond? And isn’t this illegal?

It happens, there’s much more tricks alot of private Jewellers use. Why do you think people mostly trust JP? They’re Super transparent

Went down to JP and was attended by Marie

Looking for cushion Brellia but they have limited stock in this design

Saw two and deciding which is better in term of specs

The cushion Brellia is already the top cushion cut already. If the 2 don’t have much diff, I’ll go go the 0.445 G VVS1. The savings can go customize your setting.

After u confirmed the purchase, they will ship it from India. When u pick it up, the numbers on the gia cert will match up.
Only works because u are unlikely to see any difference in the stone under store lighting

Sorry don’t really get what you mean, or I didn’t explain properly. The private Jeweller showed me diamond A with a soft copy cert and claimed it’s that stone.. I did not verify or was not shown the gia number. But in a live conference with the cutter of the diamond A in India, diamond A never even left India? So what diamond was I shown?

If they show you a diamond in person but with a ‘soft copy’ of the cert, that’s red flag already, diamond always ship together with their respective cert for obvious reason haha. So yeah, that private jeweller probably just show you a random diamond and lied to you that it’s that piece, probably to save their shipping cost in the event you’re not a confirmed buyer.

This is a serious fraud as they could also possibly be showing u a higher grade diamond and when you finalised your ring, the diamond will not even look the same.

JP’s plain setting is from 550. Should be reasonable as many other jewellers I’ve enquired quoted me around that price or slightly lower.

I understood the scenario...

If u went to the neighbourhood coffee shop and they told u they sell ‘ya Kun’ coffee.
They only show u their coffee and let u smell. U decide one day to buy it. The owner runs across the road to yakun, buy the coffee and gives it to u... is that really a crime? Perhaps it is at the point of marketing but no one is really going chase this verbal fraud up.

Fraud is only committed if u paid for the stone but the gia no. does not match the stone (unlikely to happen as once the jeweller has your deposit, he will ship it over)

Why is bait switch so common? Cos there’s very little difference in the product. If u went down to see a JP SIC one day but went in another day and was shown a HOH ideal cut as a single stone. Would U be able to tell that it’s not a SIC?

Mr Tay plain band is 200.

I did not get quoted this low from the jewellers I’ve visited. This is indeed cheap. If you like what they are offering you, then go with them. I’m not sure why a plain 18K setting cost 200 at Mr Tay and 550 onwards at JP. Perhaps experts here can advise?

In my view, the setting is just as impt as the diamond. There are also different setting quality too - workmanship, design, amount of gold used (I’ve seen really thin and settings that have hollow areas), gold porosity concerns, etc.
I believe all these plays a part in its cost too.

Summore that setting is what is holding your expensive rock safe. It’s like buying a race car with cheap rubber tyres.

There’s quite a few jewellers who I know even offer free ‘stock’ band when U get a stone from them. Mind u there’s at least 20 to choose from
There’s also quite a few at lucky plaza who will offer u that price but take a look first at their workshop.
Jp offers u any custom design ...

JP offers- free cad designing + photo imposing and customising till your hearts content - free video montage of your ring - after services. If you have a friend who has a classic JP ring, bring it to Tiffany and co, I think you’ll be shocked JP’s workmanship is even better. 200 is way below the worlds market price. Forget even workmanship, last thing you want is your diamond to drop off
