Got a sneak peek of my ring being crafted from Eugene. This is the stage just after they mounted the diamond, before they polish and rhodium plate it. Very impressed with their service and attention to detail.

I asked about the fingers in the photo and Eugene said that that's how a mastercrafters fingers really look. You can see the years of dedication on those fingers man.

Nice photo! I got some photos of my being crafted from JP too. Have you collected your ring from them yet? What's rhodium plate?

I must say their workmanship is superb.

Hi all,

Been a silent lurker for months and I am finally embarking on a journey with my htb to source for my engagement ring.

We were quoted 4.2k by Lee Hwa, for a 0.7ct, tripleEx, SI1 round brilliant solitaire ring, on a 18k white gold setting. This was after a 6k discount due to their promotions.

I had reservations about the SI1 clarity, but there is no imperfections on the naked eye.

Is this a fair price to pay for a ring of similar specs?

Thanks for your advice in advance. :s12:

That’s a decent price depending on what inclusions are on the SI1 and where the inclusions are located on the plot
Ask then to give u a 10x loupe, u will definitely spot it.

The $6k discount is just marketing fluff
A 0.7+ct ideal cut from House of Hung is only $1k more

How long does it usually take for JP to craft the ring? Hoping that it will take a shorter time given this covid situation

Usually it’s 4 weeks but see how much you customize with them also. Best is to check with them directly

You guys think JP will have discounts over their rings given the pandemic?

JP posted an announcement video. They're trying to cope with demand and have very limited stocks left cos all the cutting facilities are on lock down. But they did say they're dropping the prices for their VVS clarity diamonds. Good chance to get those at lower prices now.

Casey showed me the last time I was there. They only have one in store and it's not for sale.

It's a 0.44 and it's very fiery and beautiful. If I remember Casey mentioned that it will be available in 2-3 months time. But given the covid situation I'm not sure if will be longer since cutting and appraisal facilities are closed.

Hi all, I accompanied my friend to Jannpaul and didnt know about all these Cut stuff back then. I sat thru the session with my friend and started to learn how the cutting affects the diamond. I borrowed their asat scope to see my diamond ring, and saw that there is all these light leakages inside :( I see already heartache. I was told by the previous shop that this was suppose to be an Ideal cut. But I always felt my diamond wasn't as shiny compared to my friends and assumed that it was because of the Color (mine is a G color) or it was just dirty.

This is the asat photo of my ring. I also realised the prongs are not very symmetrical and the workmanship is quite bad. I saw the livestream crafting videos of Jannpaul and the workmanship is so much better.

I took a photo of their Superideal cut with the same size, color and clarity grades (0.31 G VVS2) to compare side by side with mine. They look so so different.. Haiz.. if only we knew back then. Now there's so much regret. Summore the price we paid for our diamond is about the same price as their Superideal.... so much regret now. It doesnt look like an Ideal cut at all... When I compare it next to the Superideal cut, one looks white and bright, and the other looks dark and yucky. Really wish I found this thread before..

Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate the diamond ring my bf gave me and this ring does not change my love for him. It's only that I wish it would be a better cut diamond. I'm half decided to buy the same diamond in Superideal myself and doing it in the same design and not telling my bf. Then the old diamond, I'll change it into a pendant or bracelet design.

If you guys were in my shoes, would you just change yourself without telling your bf?

Personally, I feel you should talk it out with your bf! Because the diamond represents his love for you so if you just change without him knowing, I'm sure he will be very unhappy.

Best to be honest with him and I'm sure he will understand from your point of view and you two can come to a compromise! :)

JannPaul didn't have the setting I had in mind while I was browsing through their catalog. So after watching some videos I came across this video from Fire and Brillance which was very close to what i wanted! Quickly email Casey the video and he roped in Paul to help design my ring!

Here's the video that i saw

WviPFum.png

Paul explain to me how this ring design is actually quite dated and has several bad points

1) The design is old fashion
2) The surfaces are flat which are bad at reflecting light
3) The prongs are too tall which has durability issues if you knock into hard surface
4) The band is reversed tapered which actually makes the diamond look smaller

Overall the setting is not durable and does not do the diamond the justice that it deserves!

So I told Paul that I wanted the prongs to lift the diamond such that I can see the pavilion from all sides, tapered ring and with sharp prong tips. Paul was very understand and gave me suggestions on how the ring design can help accentuate the diamond which we are all interested in :)

Not long after, Paul told me that my gf's ring size coincidentally is exactly the same size that he is using for his behind the scene research project that he is doing for testing of 3D lighting using ray tracing! In case you don't know ray tracing, it is the calculation of light reflection from a reflective surface. So imagine a SIC with 57 facets aka mirrors! That is a lot of internal reflection that needs to be computed to render. Paul told me even with his pc using 4 2080TIs they are running at full load while rendering.

So after a week of designing and rendering, Paul showed me 3 different design and of which the 3rd design he rendered in his 3D project. Take a look!

Paul's suggestion was to go for the 3rd ring which I totally agree as it very beautiful. Casey also helped to hyper render it into images!

So the waiting time is 6 weeks! Can't wait to see the ring in person, in the mean time I asked for a wax model of the ring for memorabilia which will take a week to print.

Really thankful how Casey and Paul have gone above and beyond my expectations. The amount of effort and dedication is a real testament to show how much they believe in their product and how much they put their customers first. If this doesn't convince you I don't know what will!
