Going to start my hunt for a diamond soon, but just wanted to get a quick gauge on the prices before I head down.

How much would an 0.51c ideal/excellent cut, F colour and VS1 diamond roughly cost?

Besides JP (can see this thread is a huge an of this place), what do you guys think of Poh Kim?

Thank you all in advance!

Just received confirmation of my cut decagon which i preordered back in July.

AGS 0.731 /G/IF
Quoted 7k. Is it a good price?

AGS cert shows medium to very thick for the girdle. Is this good or bad?
I have tried to do the HCA score myself but the calculator is giving me an error saying "the girdle is overly thick or i input wrong data"

This is the JP fan club thread, but I shall say that Poh Kim is very affordable. Worth checking out.

Have the ring box + HA scopes when you collect the ring. The rest is more like the free resize, ring plating, ring polishing, engraving, prong tightening, cleaning, etc. service they give for the ring.

I think besides the crafting video, you can also get the ring photos too.

Thanks mate

So i went down to JP and was served by Ranjit, very nice and knowledgable person i must say. I booked a 0.51 VS2 E SIC at 3.6k (diamond only), is this a good price?

GIA Report 5353367723, how do i find out about the HCA score?

The HCA score you can get here: https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca

This is yours

Bear in mind that the HCA is only to filter out diamonds with bad stats. You still need to confirm it with the scopes.
Yours from JP, so should be very safe. But no harm double checking.

I know the SIC 0.7cts G VS grades are already 6k+. Yours is internally flawless and a decagon. The price sounds abt right.

The HCA can only be applied on the usual 57 facets round shapes. It won't work on the other cuts. You can check the scopes to see the light return and symmetry. It's more accurate that the HCA anyway. You got the scopes for it? Very curious to see.

Girdle is ok. Normal for it to be varied thickness for the fancy shapes.

Affordable but in terms of quality and service?

They sell ideal cuts, not super ideal cuts. If you dont mind the ideal cuts instead, its worth checking out. But they are priced lower for a reason. Then when you compare the ideal cuts from other places, you'll find that they are all priced about the same. Just whether what quality you want.

Thanks. Besides the 2 mentioned above, any other names I should visit too?

Can also check out Michael Trio and some of the more mainstream retailers.

The quality difference between super ideal and ideal is marginal IMHO (just my opinion, guys, please don't shoot me). Unless you or your partner are really particular on the technical specifics like many of the users in this thread, or will look until damn closely (scope and all), getting an ideal cut means you have more to put toward getting a higher carat. At the end of the day, it is all about showing off the size and sparkle.

After much more reading and thinking, i'm wondering if its possible and wise to downgrade my cut of SIC to 'ideal' and upgrade to a bigger carat? I might have been too quick to decide on a SIC after i was shown the difference between the 2 of them.

Here's the scope of my 0.51 SIC that i received from JP, what do you guys think?

Shall give JP a call tomorrow to see if i can go down and take a look at some of their bigger ideal and if its exchangable.

Not shooting you but Define Super ideal and ideal. Different vendors have different standards of them. A lot of vendors in Singapore and Malaysia abuse this term a lot. What’s just a normal excellent cut they can call Super ideal or ideal. Then no... you won’t have bigger sparkles, but people analyse the scopes because that’s what you’re getting. If by Jannpaul or say Brian gavins standards of ideal and super ideal? Or Super ideal and just a good hca score diamond? Or AGS platinum 000 without the scopes? People here are technical and analyse the scopes because it does make a difference. James Allen ideal or a lot of local vendors idea of “ ideal “ fall into huge random range. Then if you don’t check the scopes you’re basically getting carrot chopped easily.

Buy diamond ring without breaking the bank

Some time ago I asked my sister in Malaysia to help me buy a diamond ring from Lavin New York (Malaysia). Their ring craftsmanship is very exquisite. You can choose your ring to be done from Hong Kong or America, the price is very competitive and reasonable. What I can suggest is to ask them whether they can post it to Singapore, or like what I do by asking my family in Malaysia to help me buy the diamond ring, and then post the ring to Singapore by fedex or DHL. Really good value for money
