The term "super ideal" comes up very often, can I check what exactly does it mean? The triple excellent is common enough but how is super ideal defined? Thanks all!

Different shops have different variants of "Ideal" diamonds. Basically its a round cut.

But for JannPaul, their super ideal cuts have one of the better/ideal proportions (not cut too wide, not too deep, better angles, etc etc) to minimize light leakage and maximize the sparkles. Their super ideal is also ensured that the HCA is below 1.4.

Quoted from Paul from JP in facebook private message

"Super ideal cut is basically a term whereby the jeweller tightens the range from a Towlkosky Ideal and adds on various rules/regulations. For example, JannPaul technically has almost 100 more stringent requirements (if I went into very minor details) besides simply just the HCA. We look into girdle evenness(painting digging prevention), table centre, culet centre, symmetry of minor facets like stars, lgfs, etc. So these apply to not only the 57 facet rounds but even to the Solasfera/Brellia, etc. Which means to say, we do fail almost 50% of the Solasfera/Brellias that come in, and it's rejected for re-polishing. Any/some companies do just simply call their 3 EXC/Ideal 0 diamonds Super Ideals with no further requirements.

Once you've established if this diamond is a really good diamond, then to put it as simple as I can..
Let's say we have 10 points to allocated to brilliance/fire/scintillation. Brilliance - 3, Fire - 4, Scintillation - 3. If you were to change something a little, be it the crown angle or a slight variation on the lower girdles, maybe you'd get a point spread allocation of Brilliance - 3, Fire - 3, Scintillation - 4.
What happens now is that, if you deviate abit off the real true sweet spot, it's always a give or take situation. Sacrifice something to have a higher point on something else. However, a real true Super Ideal right on the sweetspot with strict regulated rules, can increase the entire point total to 12. So now you can have Brilliance - 4, Fire - 4, Scintillation - 4. I hope that kinda helped..."

Guys, if you are heading over to JP, check out the octagon while you're there. It's really really nice. Me and my gf already reserved one. If you're wondering if the shape cannot be seen, do the non square orientation, it's subtle but yet you can see it's different and special :)

They clip the diamond and let you bring it outside their shop to see. Diamond still looks great :D

Wow! Share the specs pls :)

Hey guys, I am thinking of getting a proposal ring from JP and it will probably cost around 5.5k with settings. Any recommendations for credit card to maximise rebates as well as enjoy 0% monthly instalment? Will sign up a credit card to make this ring purchase. thanks!

Thank you very much! Hehe
Very beautiful ring, looks better than the 3d render you posted previously! I settled for a double band design similar to yours with the filigree. Hmm I noticed that the filigree on the right is slightly thicker than on the left in your second picture and looks kind of asymmetrical. Or is it just the angle?

The Octagon looks impressive. They are the only store I know that dares to bring their diamonds out of the shop to see under natural lights and not those bias shop lights.

My guess is it's a 0.8ct?

Thank you! Ya at first I wasn't sure of the combo but loved it once I saw the finished product. The final ring also looked much dantier than I thought!

Thank you! Haha probably the angle taken that makes it asymetrical. Are yours done?

Yesterday I went down to JannPaul.

I lost my directions and gotten myself confused over Far East shopping center and Far East Plaza.

When I reached and i saw JannPaul. I went round the shop and look for entrance. Unfortunately, i am unable to find it. I asked the jewelry shop beside and i found out that it is a same brand "house of heng" (if i did not remember wrongly.)

Vince, operation manager, attended to me and I informed him of my X budget for diamond and Y budget for setting. He has spend alot of efforts in letting me to understand the diamond, HCA and blah blah

I was told that if the ring size did not fit, they can resize it. Based on this, i believe this will be free-of-charge.

By the time i am choosing my settings, i am already in dazed.

A side note: when i am about to exit from the shop, it was raining heavily. Vince offered as a gesture of goodwill, to "accompany" me back to the mrt station (with umbrella).

Estimation of the ring to be complete: 4 weeks.

U can try using amex true cashback card which is 3% cash rebate for the first 5k. =)

you can split the transaction. For example, if the ring cost more than 5k, you can pay the deposit first then upon collection, you pay the rest.

This will let you enjoy the cashback up to first 5k. Unless you are buying exceeding 10k, then i dont know. Try discussing with them. Maybe they will allow you to split into 3 payments for amount more than 10k

Try calling the shop and ask if they have any credit card promotion.

I dont know if there is any 0% monthly installment, but my UOB SingTel card has this feature: when my bill come, i can tick for installment but with interests (such as transaction / processing fee etc).

So pretty!! What size?? Price??

Sorry! Didn't mean to keep you guys hanging.
My Octagon is a 0.72 carat Vs1 E. Got it for $8k+.

Initially I was trying to aim for 1 carat, then I saw the 0.7 carat and thought it was very big already.. no need to go so big :s13:
