Yea! White dwarf service is top notch but they unfortunately dont have any diamond in my range at the moment.

I think their price is good, however, I've no confident with the stability of the company (in the event in the future i would like an upgrade or re-polish of the ring).

I believe white dwarf are only operated by the partners with no employees (not sure if the company is even full time)

Nope they're not full time. They run it as a side "hobby".

I concur with your statement, same reason why I didn't buy there in the end.

If at a retailer e.g. Canary Diamond, Michael Trio etc, and the HCA score is below 2 and the diamond looks good physically, how can we check whether it is as "super ideal" as JannPaul's standard?

After all, if only advised to buy after you can see AEST etc then consumers only can buy from JannPaul or White Dwarf already since they are the only 2 that offer to let you see the images. And it's a bit unfair to say if cannot see AEST and not "Super Ideal" means not as good since Super Ideal is technically not even a term used in such retailers. How to check if a diamond from another retailer is as good as a "Super Ideal" cut if AEST is not available? Any specifications to look out for?

Advice will be good since I find that the price is usually less steep and if I can determine myself that the cut is very similar then I would prefer to go for the cheaper option.

You won't be able to tell without scopes. Low HCA score doesnt mean its good too. When I was shopping, I saw alot of diamonds that were lousy cuts with good HCA. I found the scopes to be more useful that the HCA.

Low HCA doesnt mean its good. My word of advice is to not fully trust the HCA. Just make sure its under 1.4 and then use the scopes to further check it. My journey took about 2 months to find my diamond Good luck!

Yup yup, HCA is elimination tool (i.e. can only use to weed out bad ones but cannot use to select good ones), because it only checks 17 out of 57 facets. ASET is true test, Hide, if you really want to find a good one without paying the premium of the shops with ASET scopes, consider just buying a set if you think it will help you get greater savings (with the price of the scope and light included).

Just went to JP again because I just wanted to make the final decision of E with eye clean impurity or F with almost scope clean impurity ... In the end I followed the majority decision... E color...
JP is great simply because no matter how many times I go... They are still serve me very patiently...

Wise choice! Glad you took our advice and actually went down there to double check.

I was served by Sam too. He is one very patient (and handsome, #nohomo) chap, I would say! Changed my diamond from a round to an emerald and finally to a heart shape in less than a month haha but he still served me patiently and let me pick my favourite stone without being pushy at all.

Hi everyone, will need some help on my setting.
Is it true if having a higher setting for the diamond (like a cathedral kind) will prevent like a gap when I stack my wedding back on top of it?

I don't like a gap/hole in between the engagement ring and band so was wondering if a higher setting will avoid that.

Yep it will. But if you have a tapered band design (thinner towards the diamond), there will be a slight gap just beside the diamond because the band is not of uniform width. I have a render with a cathedral setting and a half eternity wedding band, will share later!

Any cons of buying a diamond that has a GIA certificate dated 2 years or more ago? I am interested in a diamond but the certificate is unfortunately from 2015 and i keep having the (irrational?) feeling there may be a reason why it is not sold since 2015.

I think you can. Just don't go for their signature cuts (Super Ideal, Brellia, etc.). Choose a diamond which is within your budget yet still big and shiny enough to satisfy your SO. Also, choose a simple setting so that you can have a bigger portion of your budget on the stone.

With around 2k I think you can get a good 0.3x ct diamond in Jannpaul...
I think you can make an appointment with Jannpaul... You will gain knowledge there.. totally no harm... I love talking with them a lot...

Do you have the certificate number? The pros here can advise you once there are more details regarding the diamond.
