just went down to jannpaul today, made an appointment with Eugene, nice guy. i chose a diamond on bluenile and they told me they will procure it for me. i showed them my own setting, a design also on bluenile and they told me they can replicate it. overall, they matched bluenile's price (including the gst that i would have to pay).

when it came to discount, Eugene couldn't really help much, so i asked him who I can speak to, ended up speaking to Casey, who also didn't want to budge on the price. eventually i settled for a 2% discount, if i pay in cash.

to me, if they can get the same diamond, and offer me a price i was quite willing to pay on bluenile, offer local resizing and after sales, its pretty much a no brainer for me. so i went with them. i hope i won't regret this. their return policy is not as good as bluenile tho. but perhaps because mine was a 'custom' order. and the diamond wasn't from their stock on hand.

will wait and see their work in a couple weeks time.

look mate, just trying to help here.

it was a no brainer for me to pick up a ring from them from the service rendered to me. if you're happy to pay the full price they offer you then by all means. as a consumer i just wanted the satisfaction of making a good deal, better. contradictory to you or not, my intent of my post was to help others in my position.

good day :)

Hi guys, I've been a lurker here for some time and I'm just curious if I were to get a ~1 carat diamond, is a Solasfera recommended or just Super Ideal will do?

Say comparing a 0.94 Solasfera vs 1ct SI at similar price range, what's a better choice if anyone here had faced the same question?

Also the thing about resale price of diamonds, I heard that it is approximately 40% to 50% of initial price. Is there a possibility that this could be higher for bigger diamonds (provided not a rubbish stone) since they might be rarer in the market?

I love diamonds and I'm willing to splurge on this while cutting back other expenses, but would like some piece of mind that I'm not throwing the money entirely down the drain....They are so pretty but so pricey

P.S. Not sure if I'll get comments about my poor bf (lolol since I'm the recipient) but he's ok, I suggested to split it 50-50 but he thinks the diamond ring should be bought by the guy. I'm sure I can contribute in other ways though like honeymoon, etc. Then he also won't be so chor. =:p

Hi, I've also done some research on google with satisfactory results, but recently I went to some jewellery stores (big names like Lee Hwa, Goldheart? Meyson? I heard Love & Co designs are nice too) and their designs are actually quite pretty and imo more original/ distinct from the usual google/pinterest designs. You can try shopping physically to get some inspirations =:p

All ordinary diamonds has low resale value to a pawn shop, unless you can find someone whom are looking for a diamond and doesn’t mind 2nd hand then I believe you could probably get 80% based on the market value at that time.

Solasfera and Super Ideal blings differently, you have to see it in person to decide what’s your preference, my partner prefers the look of 1CT+ Super ideal more than Solasfera.

To get the best value, I’ll avoid 1CT, either go for 0.9~ or 1.1+, I think the 1CT mark is like the borderline of an significant increase of pricing, ultimately depends on your budget and willingness to spend on diamond

Thank you! Yes, to be frank after posting I went to watch a JP video on SI vs Solasfera and I preferred the SI's type of bling too, it seemed more classic vs Solasfera which is kind of complicated and blinding.

Go see it in person, video are zoomed in by too much, in real, even 1 CT is tiny and hard to see between 8 or 10 arrows haha. I would say Solasfera blings in a ‘messier’ manner due to the smaller facets..however, this may look more appealing if your diamond is huge, like 1.5 or 2 CT above as u get to see the contrast more clearly

Hi all diamond expert, I managed to find an ideal diamond with good light return. Based on the scope images below, what comments do you all have? I understand that the arrows are not symmetrical and there's a black dot at the 6oclock arrow but I think I can live with it.

I was also being offered the following SIC diamond. And comparing the ASET and Ideal scope of both diamonds, it looks like the ideal diamond has a better light return? What do you all think? Thank you! =:p

The Ideal cut Hearts isn’t that symmetrical too. The Super Ideal is brighter on the ASET scope. See which you want to prioritize more according to your budget.

If we buy a diamond ring and the diamond comes with GIA cert is this a good enough gauge/assurance of the diamond quality?

TIA

Yes the hearts is not symmetrical too. For the ASET scope, I thought that the ideal cut is more red than the SIC? Actually I can't really spot the difference between the two ASET scope. Can someone point out the difference?

You can only calculate the HCA score with the gia cert. HCA score is only an elimination tool for bad diamonds. In order to determine if a diamond has good light performance, you need to take a look at the ASET scope image.

Hi there, I am planning to make a purchase at JP, and wanted to know what is the best card to use for cashback. As of now I think Amex has the best cash back of 1.5%. Is there any better card out there?
Also, if I use cash payment, will it be possible to negotiate for discount? Anyone tried?

No guarantee, but u might get 1 or 2% discount for cash payments.

Best card will be UOB one card if your purchase is above 5-6k. Split it to 2k monthly on UOB one card for a particular quarter, it will be 5% rebate. Cons will be that u need to head down personally each month to swipe the card and you wont be able to collect the ring unless all payment made.
