Hi all I did a check on the HCA score for a diamond I bought. Info as such, is it a very bad diamond.....?

Light Return - Good
Fire - Good
Scintillation - Good
Spread - Very good

Saw the score as 4.1....

Is this normal for a Ideal Cut diamond? Not super ideal

I have just gotten the scope images from JP. Wondering if anyone could help evaluate which is the best

HCA is to filter our poorly cut diamonds only. For Ideal cuts, it should have minimum scoring of 2 or below.

If they're all from JP, dont need scrutinize so much leh I feel.. Although probably about a mth back or two, there was one who felt one of the arrows weren't straight enough. I didn't stare through the arrows of your images, just was looking through the ASET images. D seems to have the most green around the centre so I would not pick it. The zigzag greens for A and B looks most decent so I would go for either of this, with B over A as the centre area looks most red.

For the HEARTS scope, does it matter that there is white around the edge of the image (eg. For D, u see a white mark on the rim... And for B there is a black area at the bottom right of the rim)

If you could provide info such as the measurement, crown angle, pavillion angle, crown height, table and depth of each I would be able to say which one would seem to be best proportion wise

Sorry very new to this but does poorly cut diamonds means its a bad diamond? I'm really disappointed now because I went to JP and ended up with this....

I thought they are a reputable shop so didn't think too much about it when the price didn't seems right.

All the scopes looks the same. If they are all very similar specs, it boils down to very slight taste preference. The D diamond will have abit more scintillation but looks more contrasted and splintery (note the hotspots towards the middle - the small blue dots).

Diamond B will be more firey but less scintillating (thicker arrow - less hot spots). Diamond A and C will be more balanced like inbetween B and D.

Honestly its not that huge of a difference. What you might want to do is decide based on specs since they're all super ideal cuts anyway.

JP dont sell ideal cut diamonds. If you placed a deposit for an ideal cut then it's under HOH. As long as the diamond isn't set yet, you can still change your diamond. But as far as I know, their ideal cut diamonds usually HCA score less than 2.0..hmm You can always request for a triple excellent cut ideal diamond if you're bothered with the specs. Some people just buy based on what they see.

Is this even for a round diamond? Or some other shape?

Are all these GIA? As GIA rounds everything off (eg the LGF to the nearest 75% or 80%) so diamond A and D look identical proportion wise although in reality they might have slightly different proportions. For this reason I usually prefer AGS that provides more detail and accurate proportions

I would drop B because I personally don't prefer depth of 61.9% which resulted in slightly smaller measurement (diamond may look slightly smaller), and i prefer the pav angle of 40.8 of A, C, D compared to 40.6 of B.

My fave in terms of proportion and ASET is C. But if we see from the picture diamond C is not as bright I think it has the lowest color of all?

So my top choice would be A or D (which in the picture also seem to be the brightest)

When some of the people here say poorly cut, they mean poorly cut according to the very high standards of super ideal set by JP. To most outside standards yours is probably good enough.

There are 2 establishments under the same shopfront, House of hung and JP. You mentioned you got ideal, not super ideal, so I don’t think anyone was ripping you off. They probably tried to give you the best they could based on your budget and size requirements. If the super ideals from JP were out of your budget, possibly they recommended the ideals from HoH.

Nevertheless, high chance the same diamond would be more ex if sold by most of the other shops.

Just an update very happy that I went back JP to change. The diamond looks ok under ASET but have to sacrifice a little bit of the carat. The staff who helped me was extremely patience with me

Wow u are very sharp. Diamond C has the poorest colour among all the diamonds :)

Diamond A has best colour

I went for consultation at fairy’s inc and jp. I like fairy designs and i like jp diamonds so i was wondering if it’s possible to buy just the diamond from jp and bring over to fairy to do the setting?

to add on: i saw the price of the setting with filigree/milgrain around 4k+ without the diamond on top. is it really that price excluding the diamond?

Went to JP, SK, Lee Hwa, Meyson, Gold heart the past week to look at engagement rings, and it’s safe to say that JP really provides the best quality diamonds with reasonable price range.

The “ideal/signature” cut diamonds from all the above excluding JP was freaking overpriced and no where near the standard of even the ideal cuts from HOH. SK quoted me $7k for their 0.52, G color, VS2 signature cut ring  not to mention that their triple excellent diamonds look worst than the 20 baht diamond earrings my partner bought from Bangkok.

Apart from that I need a little help please!!
Dilemma between choosing ideal cut and super ideal cut! On one hand my partner said there is no difference between the ideal cut and super ideal cut when viewing with naked eye, but the difference in price is just $100-$200 extra for the super ideal compared to the ideal cut.

Those that bought before from JP do you try asking for discount or is the prices from the sales rep fixed?

Not sure why but I am getting the feeling that my sales rep is giving me a high price for ideal cut diamonds to push me into getting the super ideal cut.

0.47, G, VS2, Ideal cut ($2950)
0.47, G, VS2, Super Ideal cut ($3150)

Anyone knows if the ideal cut is decently priced?

If it's just $200, I would go for the SIC. The cut and the light performance would more than justify that $200. ;)
