Hi all diamond experts, I have recently bought a loose diamond online and currently being shipped over here. I am still required to do the Setting. I was just wondering if anyone here has any recommendations of any jeweller which has good workmanship with a competitive price? Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

More than diamonds at Tanglin. Old skool. Expect 1k for plain setting

Benny Gems and Canary will only quote when u take the stone down and discuss your design

Someone mentioned HOH set their stone from JamesAllen for $600, plain setting with CAD design

Hi Master Shifus out there!

I’m getting a proposal ring and I am looking at 2 options.

1) $3,700
Round Brilliant 0.41 Carat, G, VVS2 with Twirl Setting, GIA 6311294428
2) $3,620
Round Brilliant 0.45 Carat, E, VS2 with Twirl Setting, GIA 6302529669

Which should I choose? Will VS2 and VVS2 vary a lot? JannPaul or Ling Jewellery preferred? Help me, I need to buy it real soon! Thanks in advance!

Clarity grading is done via magnification so yes there’s a difference but u won’t see it with the naked eye.

You got two stones, one which u drop 2 clarity grade in exchange for 2 upgrades in color... so essentially they cancel out. Price should be similar but the 0.41G is smaller and more expensive. Why? I’ll stick my head out and say the 0.45E is less well cut

Hello experts here! Do I have to make an appointment if I'm going down to HOH to take a look at the rings?

I prefer hoh since I can go for bigger carat while sacrificing abit on cut.

Hoh are more of ideal cuts yea?

My gf prefer bigger carats and is okay with lower colour and clarity quality

Thank you Miltah for the analysis :)

Yes, 0.45E is from Ling while 0.41G is from JP. So which would you guys get? I’m stuck..

Even without u revealing the stones, I had already picked JPs based on dimensions. Everyone knows JP standard but I dun know about Ling’s.

Would u be able to see any differences in scope images? Or notice any difference in real life? If u can accept G color, I would take JP

@unholyreaver - I believe you met Andrew who will be the one explaining to you for diamonds in Ling.

I met Andrew from ling before and my understanding is he basically only take in EFG , VVS1 to VS2 , 3EX, non fluorescent , ensure all are hearts and arrows and is very strict about all these requirements to meet his standard before bringing them in to his shop. He also check for HCA score and if not wrong, all less than 2.

Hind sight for ling, although the diamonds are hearts and arrows, symmetry and how much light leakage from the hearts and arrows may not be a standard consideration for Ling (as compared to JP who are even more strict I believe to meet their 'standard').

Interesting that Andrew actually bring in a .5 range as he told me before usually he bring in .1 to .4 or .6 to .9 (maybe he found this .5 really not bad and take in) lol.

In ling, only when you decided to put the deposit, then pictures can be taken to share you scope images. Else you can only see the scope images physically at the shop and determine.

See you want "super ideal best" diamonds from JP or still w hearts and arrows and bigger in carat size.

Here’s an extreme example of cutters maximising wt by cutting deep

upjjaMT.jpg

I’m not suggesting that Ling’s stone is as such but I basically rejected it based on the fact that it’s deep

Ling: 0.45E - 4.87 x 4.90 x 3.05mm (depth 62.5%)
Jp: 0.41G - 4.76 x 4.79 x 2.92mm (depth 61.2%)

Is 0.45ct bigger? Yes, but I dun think anyone can notice 0.11mm size difference.
If we had a JP 0.45ct, it would be ‘bigger’ face up as the depth is lower.

Here’s the things most pple notice regarding stones: the size (at least 0.2ct diff), the colour (2-3 color grades side by side) and the cut.

Unless you or @unholyreaver provide some current or past Ling’s scope images, I can’t tell u abt the cut.

http://sgwatches.com.sg/products/1-hour-express-touch-up-polish

Rings $30. Never used them but I believe it can only remove surface scratches and plating not included.

I think JannPaul can remove the really deep scratches as they suggest polishing max 2x in the life of their rings as they removing quite abit of ‘material’, plus plating after.

But frankly it really depends how u wear the ring...

After polishing, the ring will need to be plated to be white again. When you polish, it will remove the original plating to reveal the inner color.

You can try shipping your ring back to them to polish and plate. Once you do elsewhere, it will void the warranty of your ring too. My friend had a bad experience with polishing and plating his ring before. The guy over polish and the ring became too thin. Then the plating kept wearing off. Bring to another shop also cannot repair. So in the end, he had no choice to make a new setting.
