Can someone share what aspects of the diamond determines the brilliance and scintillation performance of the stone?
I was physically (naked eye) comparing between a JP white series oval and a cheaper one, cannot really tell the difference under the same lighting conditions (natural light and spot light)....
Under a scope i can see the cheaper one doesn't have the nice aligned arrows, but doesn't seem like it affected the light performance...

Image quality is pretty bad as i am using an old xiaomi phone...

The pics you took are in the hearts & arrows scope. That's to see the symmetry (not light performance). For light performance, you'll need the ASET scope. And I think the photos you took, the diamond is abit tilted so can't really see it accurately.

JP's white series oval itself is the best light performing diamond in the oval shapes. You can see the evolution of the oval diamonds here;

Then JP's oval is meant to outperform the SIC rounds as well.

This is an old pic when I was down their store before I bought my oval with them (under direct light). It was sparkling like mad. And I also rem their ovals lower color looking brighter than the SIC round even though it was a higher color (under their white light box thing at the shop corner).

Btw, are those 2 diamonds on the side of your oval pear shape? You got a photo of your ring itself? Curious about your ring design :)

This is my Oval diamond ring if it helps. It's from JP white series too. We took some photos of the ring immediately after we collected them.

This was us trying to take it in a dim corner away from the sun. I believe this should be in the shaded type of light environment that is suppose to see the brilliance. Diamond appearing very white :D (Color is a G). Even at this dimly lit corner, I'm amazed at how the diamond can still be so bright.

Then this is afternoon sun lighting and can see all the sparkles. Quite similar to koifishclown pic. Can see all the colorful light burst. Overall, very happy with our ring. I recommend looking for Sam. He helped rush out our ring crafting under a month (usually they take over 4 weeks), and he was very on the ball with our constant questions.

Thanks for the input. I thought the symmetry would help with the light performance... don't have ASET scope to check out the performance unfortunately.

The 2 side diamonds are pear shape. Pardon the blurness... somehow it's very difficult for my camera to get the diamond in sharp focus....

Can't really see from your pics. I doubt it's the size.. Your's looks quite big. What size is it? Mine's a 0.6ct. I noticed the bigger burst is more under direct lights when the light is shining on the diamond top. Then as the corner angles, that's where I'll see alot of scintillation.

reserved a 0.66-0.69 ct, came out to be a 0.712 ct...

Finally collected our ring!

Oval E VS1 1.83 carats, pears were 0.2 carats each. Love it! Super dainty and well made.

Oh wow. I know diamond prices will take a big jump when it hits 0.70ct. Did they charge you additional for the 0.7ct+ size?
capped at max of the range of the estimate they gave when providing deposit, $5.3K for the diamond itself. I think JP already catered for this possibility when quoting upfront, cos the lower end of a 0.7x ct estimate i got earlier was also about 5k+, albeit with slightly worse specs on the color and clarity.

Wow! That's a huge rock!! Very nice!! The elongated shape of the oval makes it look big. Suddenly I see so many ppl getting the Ovals here.

Hi shifus, I need some advice. I see alot of recommendations to jannpaul here and saw their white series collection. Very impressed with it and the technology behind it. I'm trying to decide it I should choose one from their limited inventory or custom cut. I decided on their round 10 hearts and arrows cut from their white series. But the problem is, they have like only 5 pieces left and they are all in the 0.9cts. The rest are all sold out already and they're not sure when it will be restocked as the SA told me they need to fulfill their current custom cut orders first. And they have alot of custom order requests to make.

The closest one I have to my specs is a 0.91 E VVS2. I'm thinking if I should reserve this piece or custom cut one out. They told me custom cut will take abt 2 months, and the grades will be a range that I want. Im aiming for G Color VS1-VS2 kind as I read from the shifus here that the white series looks whiter than usual cuts and can save on the high color grades as the cut is already very good (correct?). Only thing is the waiting time if I should extend it or not. Originally I wanted to propose in June but I also don't mind delaying abit.

This is the cert. It's certified by AGS. Is AGS ok? The ones I usually see are GIA. I know other certs like IGI, EGL, etc. are rubbish cert to avoid. But I'm not sure about AGS.

0pKbks5.jpg

Here's some pics I took during my session. They showed me the diamond in different light setups. This is when its under white lights to show the brightness. When I was there, It was v v white... I couldn't tell any color diff when I compare it with other colors of the white series.

O8U4AYe.jpg

Then this is under direct light to see the sparkle. It's damn damn sparkling man. lol. The light setup also rotates. So when the diamond is rotating, you will see how the sparkles moves all over the diamond. It's damn intense. lol. I never knew diamonds could be this sparkly as the ones I see on the streets are usually quite meh or not bad. But never this sparkly.

ynVqyUK.jpg

The SA told me the diamond is meant to perform at acute angles too. I tried taking some pics at different angle points. This is about abt 45 degree. Can still see the colorful sparkles. The pic might not sure clearly, but there were alot of sparks on the edges of the diamond too.

ohkU3fa.jpg

At a more tilted angle.. abt 20 degrees. Sparkles retain the same.

KFdEhsq.jpg

I feel my heart is quite set on this diamond and part of me just want to buy and start making the ring. Advantage is I get to see the diamond now first also and know this is the one I'm getting. But I see alot of ppl custom cutting theirs also to be more in their range. I'll be getting their white series round 10 hearts and arrows for sure. Just don't know if I should get this E VVS2 one or custom cut? What do you guys think?

Yes, this is a AGS cert. Basically, GIA certs are bias towards seller. AGS certs are much better than GIA.

If you have the time, why not just wait for a custom cut? This is a once in life time purchase right.

In term of the spec, I would choose G-F colour for less than 1ct diamonds. The heavier the diamond, the better you should colour grade. If have the time, 0.9ct range with G-F, VS1-VS2 can be a good value stone, specially with JP round 10 cut.

Nice rock. Technically speaking, the AGS is more advance than GIA. AGS has stricter Cut grade and grades the light performance too. I think that's why JP's white series are all AGS cert. I don't recall seeing any in GIA. I know for their SICs its either AGS or GIA.

If you haven't fix ur proposal date, then custom cut one in your range. For all you know, you might end up getting a free color/clarity upgrade if the final grade exceeds their estimation. I know some of the bros here got lucky and ended up with a better stone while JP honored their original quoted price.

Thanks for the comments. Our anniversary is in June. Hence, ideally I want to have the ring ready by then. But I guess you guys are right. I'll opt for the custom cut route. Good things have to wait I guess.

After the stone is ready, how long does it take for them to make the ring? I understand that the ring design can be customized too. Is it done concurrently while they custom cut the diamond? Or only after when the diamond is ready?

It's a once in a lifetime purchase bro. I'd wait to get a custom cut one in your specs.

It'll take 4-6 weeks for them to handcraft your ring. You'll need to plus another couple of weeks if you plan to customize your design. Their 3D work will take 1-2 weeks and another week to do up a wax prototype. Since you're custom cutting cutting your diamond, you might as well custom design your ring also. They don't charge extra for custom works.

To save time, you can start your custom design while waiting for them to cut your diamond. Then once your diamond is ready, you'll have your design ready also then just need to wait the 4-6 weeks for them to craft.
Have fun with your ring 3D. My fren recently did his 3D with JP, and it looks different from the old ones they used to do. It looks very cool and realistic now.

Hi! May I know what were you quoted on the 0.91 diamond?
