I called SH and enquired before. I was told that ST number needs to be free from internet or any contract. So you will need to sign on SH first. They will give you a temporary number. Once all is up and running, you can put in the request to port number. The porting is FOC. You may want to reconfirm with SH.

I havent experienced the actual process though...wanted to sign with SH but decided to wait and see as there are tons of complaints on their FB page.
Is there any downtime when porting to SH from ST? During the time when SH gave the temporary number, is the current ST number usable? :)

Yeah, the complaints on SH fACEBOOK page is quite horrifying and no one replies to it and they have been many compliants on slow speed of both SH cable and fibre broadband..

It seems cable is also affected but may not be extensive. Given the content of the complaints, CS seems really questionable as well.

Waiting to see how this pans out and see whats the cause.

I am now planning to move to SH 25Mbps, have also read about the many problem with fibre and 100Mbps cable, so yes I'm also worried. But I'm sure the problem will be resolved one day, just how soon. Has SH been having problem all the while or just recently?

Actually, do you mean porting home num or mobile num? I have 2 ST num, one prepaid and one postpaid. I recently ported a prepaid num. My prepaid num from ST was unusable for nearly 24hrs when ST deregister within 24hrs, so be prepared to be uncontactable for 1 full day, unless you give your new sim card num to whoever will contact you often and tell them its temporary until the porting is completed on SH side. It really depend on SH, mine took nearly 24hrs.

Porting of number will result in downtime...But given their current bootleneck, I am not sure if it would be resolved within 24 hrs.

It seems like the customers have been complaining at least 2 weeks ago.

Porting both home num and mobile num. But saw some fb posts in the past that SH ports their new customer numbers for two days or more, which somewhat worries me. Not sure how is it now. :)

OMG, this is scary, not being able to port to SH immediately but not within 24hrs is already scary enough, now complaining two weeks ago, omg cant seem to accept it. Is it many people switching to SH or ST/M1 to SH problem? :)

I think he/she meant the fibre/cable bb problem for 2 weeks, not the porting. I suppose they have different team handling different matters, the bb problem is probably the job of the technical department, while porting and customer service is another department? Can't possibly have the whole staff force working on the fibre/cable problem right?

I read another thread that says the problem is with the SH router. Those who buy their own router do not encounter problem, so I don't know what is what. I will be porting over home num soon, and I don't mind the delay bcos if they can't reach me at home, can call hp. BB delay also ok, bcos nothing important to check online. But that time mobile delay for 24hrs was bad as I was expecting calls and some of my friends/colleagues only have my mobile num and true enough when the porting was completed, I got missed call messages as I forgot to give my temporary num to some of them. That is why I do one thing at a time. Port over mobile first to test their efficiency, then the rest later or if no good, then forget about moving, then I keep to mobile with SH and bb with ST.

I see, home num is quite important to me as some relatives knows only my home number. If mobile delays takes more than 24hours is really unacceptable as you might have missed some important calls or messages(as of your situation). On a see-first situation now, await for your future experience with SH. :)

I just jumped camp to SH 25Mbps cable.

Tested on Torrents:

Singtel 10 Mbps gives me 1.2 MB ave.
Now SH 25 Mbps gives me 1.5 MB ave. Was expecting more larger bw although its shared cable BW in my area.

What are the other user's ave speed for SH?

Ok, I need to cancel ST BB/Mio TV before SH BB installation. Must make sure I don't cancel ST Home Line so SH can do the porting (num retention >$42+) which will take 2weeks, if I didn't hear wrongly (too many instructions from SH until I forget). Once home num ported over, will be notified by SH, so I guess there will be interruptions and delays during the period when ST deregister and then SH completes the port over (same like my mobile porting).

SH - Home Line + Caller ID display will cost me $4.28/mth ($2.14+$2.14)
ST - Home Line + Caller ID display costs me $14.09/mth ($29.43+$12.84 - 3mths)

So one month, its a savings of $9.81 for home line. Negligible amount though, so you may just want to reconsider porting home line over just to save the hassle and interruptions, since home line is important to you.

I just need to cross my finger and hope I made the right decision to move everything over to SH.

Hmm good consideration, but I would want to have all my services all from the same telco so billing is only one billing letter, save the hassle.

The only thing I'm afraid of is the porting and downtimes but once that's over, it's gonna be a new journey.

Wish you luck that you made the correct decision to SH! :)

For the same reason, but initially when I read about the SH cable/fibre BB and I already ported mobile over, I actually thought of porting back to ST. But after much consideration, knowing M1 and ST also have the same problem with fibre and how some SH users go about resolving their own problem by not using SH router, I finally decided to go with SH considering I can save some $, not just on home line but also BB and moving from 3Mbps to 25Mbps.

The cable/fibre problem with SH will be resolved some day, they can't go on like that otherwise they can be fined right? hahaha.

You may just want to do one thing at a time, though troublesome, just so you can still be reachable at either the mobile or home line. But once you cancel the home line, you can't have ST BB ADSL. So, home line and BB goes together.

Yeah actually much calculation and consideration SH is much affordable than ST, except that their STB rental fee is a little higher than ST. Well my ST contract ends next year so i have lots of time to consider the next move.

I think SH has resolved quite a few users problem. It's actually a DNS problem and many change to Google Public DNS and their connection went back to normal.

Can I check with you guys if the $23/mth plan for 10Mbps still available? I just called Singtel and the guy on the line told me it is no longer available and the minimum I can go for is 15Mbps at about $29 per month. Anyone who just recontracted can verify this?

Yes that is correct. No more 10mbps @ $23 le. U can look to to Starhub cable or move up to fibre.

Thanks for the reply. I just did my own search and also found out that Starhub's 25Mbps is much cheaper.

However I would like to check, by using the StarHub's voice enabled cable modem does it mean that the modem has to be switched on 24/7 to receive phone calls? For new customers or those who jump ship from Singtel, is there any one time fee payment for installation, activation, etc by StarHub?

Yes, have to on the modem 24/7 and anyway it do not take up much energy. It is self installation so no installation fee but got activation fee. However, if sign during major IT Fair then it will offer waive of activation fee. Hope this answer your question.

SH's 25Mbps is certainly cheaper. I have just terminated my ST BB (takes 7days) and moving over to SH. If you are porting over your current ST home num, then there's a $42+ charges by SH and another $10+ for Caller Number Display activation. If you take a new Home Line Num from SH, then you save $42+. I hate the crowd at IT fair, so I rather pay the additional charges.

If you sign up for 25Mbps, monthly charges for Home Line ($2.14) and Caller ID ($2.14) total = $4.28/mth compared to ST's $14.09/mth.

25Mbps BB + Home Phone line + caller num display, costs me $29.18/mth. That is quite some savings.

The difference between SH and ST home line is, SH - need to turn on modem 24/7 and in the event of a power failure, you can't use home phone.

Actually, I have no complaint about ST, even when I want to terminate service, they are still very professional, I really can't say about SH. I have read that SH's hotline can be hard to reach and service poor. I never had such problem with ST, so I'm hoping I made the right move, but its too late to regret now.

With so many going to fibre, the number of cable users became much less so it is not a bad idea to use Cable BB.
