Oh I know. I chose that for that reason, and that's why I was very surprised.

Just redid the test with the same strange results. What's with this abysmal routing? Home conditions are the same - dad watching Singtel TV, mom on Viu and sis on Netflix.

Thought occurred to me: you both on ONT right? I'm on the 8240T5 ONR on bridge. I assume we're all on AS9506, so that shouldn't be the problem.

And a sudden spike here.

I think my slow upload speed has something to do with the browser based testing. Somehow I am not able to test with the Win 10 app out of Singapore/Malaysia/Indonesia.

Mobile app has no problem to choose the server's. I have faster upload speed using my Huawei P20 than the Acer Swift 3 laptop (bought in Dec 2017, Win 10, Core i5 8250U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD).

You both are on the same IP block then. I'm on 121.6.x, Earlier I was on another block altogether (can't remember now.)

That would be artificial results though. I intended for this to be more real-world.

wow, the latencies are so low!! (except optus Melbourne). especially the china mobile. the latencies you are getting are comparable to from my azure server.. btw is yr myrepublic 1G normal plan with static ip or the gamer plan? thanks

I am using 1G MR with static IP. Non-Gamer.

MR DL speed is 1G, UL speed is 500M. Add in another 4 servers to cover the bases. Taken at 9pm today.

Using the SpeedTest CLI tool to get rid of the effect of browser. The trick is to get the SpeedTest server ID. By default it only list the servers around your test locations. The solution I use it to use VPN to connect to other locations to get the list of servers around different locations.

SpeedTest server list.

Average around 150Mbps to 200Mbps even though there are some spikes at higher speed. Using Singtel 1Gbps plan here and Chrome browser, monitored using Windows 10 Task Manager.

Interestingly second time it is faster, above 200Mbps and up to 500Mbps.

from my experience, singtel google drive uploads and downloads are throttled to 400mbps (provided idm or download accelerator is used), while torrents can easily exceed 400mbps provided its well seeded

940am comcast sanfrancisco (over wifi)

if you need an idea of when its peak hours in sg:

Sunday Morning (approx 11am), on wifi

Power cycled my network. Surprisingly got assigned a new IP address, also in the 121.6.x block. Speeds are finally up to expected levels, but there remains questions needed to be asked about the discrepancy.

Singtel:

Thailand (AIS Fibre Bangkok)

Malaysia (U Mobile, Kuala Lumpur)

Australia (Optus, Melbourne)

USA (Comcast San Francisco)

Japan (Rakuten Tokyo)

Canada (Bell Mobility, Vancouver, BC)

Hong Kong (China Mobile)

Yes, just downloaded Free Download Manager and tried the same Google Drive download again, the speed hovers around 41MB/s to 52MB/s, so yes it is between 328Mbps to 416Mbps.

As for bit torrent, just tried Ubuntu 20.04 AMD ISO and I can only reach up to 40MB/s with the average speed of 25MB/s, not yet above 400Mbps.

hmm could be due to torrent client.. i use qbittorrent and randomise port, forced encryption. qbittorrent has no connection limits (eg 2000) :) torrents are also more demanding and require ssd to reach top speed (as not written in order)..

I see.

I do not use bit torrent myself so this is just for testing purpose. I am using qBittorrent as well but with the default configuration. I will try later to change configuration to see if it can reach higher speed.

I usually use wireless so previously qBittorrent can saturate the wireless link.
