Took a solo (female) trip to Taipei last week and engage 林建良 for his service to Jiufen/Ping Xi. As soon as he know that I will be doing photography, he recommended the following destination for me :

南雅奇岩，陰陽海，黃金瀑布，九份老街，昇平戲院，猴桐（貓村），十分瀑布，十分天灯，平溪車站，西門町

The day started at 8am and he brought me to their local street food stall for breakfast. Felt comfortable alone with him (he told me it's his first time with a solo female passenger!) and he took great care, offered to carry my camera and backpack. I thought he will just leave me at the destination and pick me up at a timing but instead he accompanied me, guiding all the way, recommending the best place/angles to take pictures, which is the small lane to go. He charges NT4000 for the day service.

I also engage him for back to airport service for NT1000.

hi guys! im still in taipei and engaged a driver whose name is 啊辉. previously someone recommended him over here and said that hes very helpful as they had elderly in the group. thus i contacted him. INDEED! Hes a fantastic driver whose service is excellent! he helped us to be our photographer and recommend us places to go. yes, these are the standard things most drivers will do. so the best part is, he provided us with so many things! e.g wifi, umbrella, mineral water and even sun block lotion! he let us have our own time when we needed it. goodness, im not trying to hard sell him but ive been to taiwan and engaged a few drivers. so far, imo, hes the best driver. oh yes, his pricing is reasonable too. i even recommend him to my own friends

I engaged his service for a day tour on 7th July lol, upon see recommendations from here.

He was responsive on whatsapp, quoted a standard price of 3500 for 8 hours and 4000 for 10 hours.

We requested to meet him at 9AM at the hotel and he said okay, on the day itself, at about 855AM, I texted him to ask exactly where to meet him, and that's when he replied to ask to change the meeting time to 10AM. LOL. He also said service today will be FOC. (I didn't know what that means, so didn't reply nor clarify.)

I was slightly stunned by the delay, but didn't react negatively lah, thought family and I could go nearby and eat breakfast first.

When he finally came at about 1050, he was rather apologetic, and thank us for giving him a chance, and told us again he won't accept any fee... He explained that his 6-month old daughter cried through the night, he had to take care of her and didn't sleep much, that's why he overslept.

The day went by fine, he brought us to small yehliu, jiufen, yinyanghai, waterfall, shifen, danshui.. chatted with my parents throughout... helped take nice photographs whenever there's a need to...

When we finally went back to the hotel at about 9, he really refused to take our money LOL. But we insisted, after a moment of pushing the money to him, he finally took.

I guess that's self-respecting service spirit? It's like, he took it as his own fault for oversleeping and had to delay tourists' time by an hour, so out of service spirit he didn't want to take our money.

I guess no one would really dare not pay lah, but it's a nice gesture, we got him to send sister to the airport as her flight was different from ours, quoted us 1000.

Highly Recommended Taiwan Cab Driver

Hi all.. I just came back from Taipei yesterday and we engaged a Young and very Friendly Cab Driver by the name 阿辉. I got his contact from one of the forumers in this thread and thank you of the recommendation!

My family of 4 engaged his service on 11 July 16 to 九分， 十份, 黄金瀑布， 基隆庙口夜市， etc. His car is Toyota Wish, very spacious and clean.

This is my 5th visit to Taiwan and 阿辉 left a good impression hence I am here recommending him. The previous driver always bring us to at least 1 or 2 other shops so that they can earn some commission. 阿辉 is a down-to-earth person and he promised that he won't bring us to those shops unlike some other drivers.

He is Young (30+) and smiley. He was punctual (in fact earlier than arranged timing) and he is a safe driver. I am 7months pregnant and I went with my mom (60+) and 2 sisters. During the Journey, he took great care of us and even treat us local fruits, provide water. He offered to go 夜市 with us to recommended good food and even bought us 椒盐排骨 to eat!

He is proficient in Chinese and Hokkien but command of English is not-so-good (quite typical in Taiwan).

He has a 6 months old Michelin baby girl and can sense that he is a caring father and husband.

阿辉 also provide personalized tour services to other places in Taiwan, not only 九份. He is puzzled why people only engaged him for 九份.. haha..

In the end, we were very pleased with his services and arranged for him to send us to the Airport during our return.

If you are looking for a friendly & responsible cab driver who doesn't bring you to other shops to earn commission, I strongly recommend him. He is responsive via whatsapp.

Just returned from Taiwan last week. My 2 boys (aged 4 and 2) had fun filled trip. Our driver (Mr SU) was introduced bun Eason as he was not able take us in the same period of time due to other commitment. But he was very helpful and planned my journey and the whole 8 days journey costs about $1k plus Sgd. very worth as we did not have to waste time or rush with others in a tour group. Our driver was a nice man and the seven of us (5adults and 2kids) travelled in a spacious 8 - 9 seater car comfortably. The guys were very easy going and approachable.

Just came back from Taiwan last week. weather very very hot now haha. Anw, took a day tour with Kele 可樂 based on recommendations here. He actually got his Kele name from one of us here on hwz according to him.

His prices are pretty standard NT3500/8hours and subsequent hours at NT500/hour. He is very friendly and approachable and helped planned the journey based on where we wanted to go. Though we didn't manage to finish all the places we initially wanted to go as we spent too much time at each place haha. He did bring us to another spot near Yehliu with much nicer views and practically no other tourists.

He accompanied us down to each place and helped to take pictures though I believe he was nursing an injured back at that point of time. Water was provided on his taxi too. Taxi is very clean and spacious and comfortable. Would definitely use his service again! He do does trips around Taiwan and not just Taipei I believe.

hello, yup i have completed my trip. my driver didn't bring us to any shop. all the places that we went are those we wanted to go, he just brought us there and dropped us off. when we are done with shopping, he will just pick us up when we call him.

i will recommend if you want to avoid those travel agency that will bring to their shops. that's basically one of the reason ppl hire private drivers that won't do so.

maybe the driver will earn a bit if you want him to book those food meals by table along your trip. but those are quite little and their meals package are quite reasonable (about 2.5k-3k NT for 10 ppl table). but if you don't want, he won't force you and can always drop you off to eat some local street snacks.

Was he flexible with ad-hoc changes to the start/end time, overtime - just in case we decided to start later on certain days, travelling with young kids and old folks...

We paid a lump sum for the half an island tour for around a week. The rate is inclusive of the driver's accommodation and meals (although sometimes we eat together with him and we treated his share), highway toll charges, parking etc. He is easy-going so we never bothered about the hours per day. Most days we start at 8/9 am and end around dinner time but one of the days we lost track of the time and didn't know the journey to the minsu was a faraway place so he ended at close to 9pm and we all stayed together at that minsu. I'm sure he is flexible with timing but if you are going many attractions in one day, maybe can discuss to start earlier or ask for his opinion.

Yup Long distance, HsR is faster but was intending to stopover at some places to visit along the way as well as enjoy the scenery. Haha.
Also lugging suitcases along the way to take HSR seems abit troublesome for me especially with a child. Also I was thinking with a car it is more convenient to buy things and Chuck into the car and go another place without hassle.

I am returning back from Taipei tomorrow.
I rented a car (Toyota Vios) which I pick up from the airport when i arrived.
If you are more adventurous i do seriously recommend that you drive, directions is not an issue as you can get get the SIM card with router at the airport terminal and use the gps to get around easily. The only thing to get use is the left hand drive if you are not familiar. I suggest you get a smaller car good enough for all you luggages so that you are easily mobile and can buy substantial stuff at your convenience.
Do note to get your international driving permit. Cost wise if relatively cheap to rent approx 60bucks a day and petrol is cheap.
Toll wise no issue only need to pay when you return the car. No need to worry as there is a tag where will captured the total amount due for toll and just pay to the rental company. No need to swipe any credit card when i took the car as I had it prepaid already.
For the past 6days I drive from Taipei to tai Chong to kaoshiung and Kentng before heading back to Taipei. For info Taipei to kaoshiung will take just about 3.5 hours and there are Stopovers for you to pump petrol and buy the local specialities at each stopover. Do plan your trip to stopover to buy their local specialities.
Journey drive is akin to driving along NSH with speed limit between 90 to 110km/h and you can slowly Enjoy the scenery.
Do consider driving as an option if you intend to travel between provinces.

Do check out Simon (+886 986 712 971) if you are heading to taiwan. I have booked his service for a few times already and have recommended him to my family and friends. He is a friendly, caring, young driver(~30yrs) that is very accommodating to changes in our itinerary.

In the initial stages, he would communicate and give us advice on how to plan our routes especially since we were not familiar with the areas of taiwan. He is from Taichung but he does bring customers to other parts of taiwan. So far, i have visited Taipei, Taichung, Hualian, Tainan, Gaohsiung and Kenting while booking his service and he has recommended accommodation, activities and yummy food stops in these areas, and has definitely made me enjoy Taiwan more

He even helped us contact Airbnb hosts so that we could find the place and check in smoothly. My relatives also feedbacked that he was very good with children, and their kids missed "Uncle Simon" when they returned back to Singapore. Overall a fantastic driver that is not pushy at all and he is quite entertaining. Last i heard, he is getting a new car to accommodate larger groups of people so do check him out

Am very relieved to have him as our tour guide/driver. As we are travelling in a group of 7 (2 elderly 2 middle aged 2 young adults and an infant), it can be tricky on deciding places to go which will interest everyone.

Was quite fortunate to have Jackie as he is attentive and will recommend places which will try to fulfill everyone's requests.

Personally, the best part I like about him is that he will share tips and experience on where not to buy things as those are "tourist spots", and will bring us to places where locals will patronise. And he is also in 30s, so we can relate to him easily.

He was also patient and attend to our parents needs and questions. This allows us to take a break during the car ride as we were dead tired just taking care of our baby. Though it is way past the 10 hour package, at no extra cost, he brought our parents to night market and treated them while we were with the baby in hotel at night.

It feels like he is more like a local friend bringing us around than just a driver. Heartfelt appreciation for his sincere services.

Just came back from Taiwan and if anyone is looking for a Taichung driver, I highly recommend Mr Li.

He is a very nice driver and most value for money, was quoted 3k for a day while other drivers quoted me 3.5k and up. During the trip he even bought us some betel nuts and pipa fruits to try and offered us a free ride to the train station the following morning!

Only downside is he only speaks Chinese, what's app him at +866 979 600 538 in Chinese if you are interested. He resides in Taichung but is willing to provide service in the whole of Taiwan.
