[Recommend] Good Mechanical Keyboard

As some of you may know, i try out many different 75% keyboards, from premium ones like rog azoth, all the way down to budget ones from ajazz.

I was wondering if anyone tried the Tecware Spectre 75 Wireless, It looks like it uses the same common OEM board found in many S$50 China-brand keyboards just by looking at the display and software.

When it comes to battery life, most CN board i tested using a 4000mAH battery lasts < 100 hours with both LED and display off. However, Tecware claims that their keyboards can last 400 hours of continuous usage, which is quite different from other keyboards using the same OEM board.

I wonder if they are just smoking or is it true?

I've placed an order for the keyboard and will try it out for myself.

From what I've gathered, this is a common OEM board paired with its usual software. However, I noticed that some minor refinements have been made.

For those who are not aware, one recurring issue with this lineup of OEM boards and software is that when the LCD is set to off, it doesn't retain the setting after a keyboard restart or when the PC enters sleep mode. As a result, the LCD turns back on, unnecessarily draining the battery.

Because of this, I’ve had to unplug some LCDs on the similar keyboards, as manually turning them off every time I return from idle is a hassle.

A similar issue was pointed out by a Reddit user who owns the Spectre 75.

Surprisingly, the latest firmware update seems to have fixed this issue, which caught me off guard since many manufacturers tend to leave it unaddressed.

** Firmware Changelog

1. Added hotkey function (Fn+Tab) to turn the LCD display off.
2. LCD Display & Knob functions will remain as per last setting used after keyboard/device is turned on/off

My order should be arriving in a few days. Hopefully, the experience matches my expectations.

If everything checks out, I might finally have a budget keyboard to recommend, one that actually offers a refined user experience, unlike most others that are only "aluminum" or not OR "thoccy" or not.

Is it because HE keyboards are targeted at gamers, most come out of the box with light weight switches ( < 40g ) ? I like mine at 50~55g

First thing i did was to install the rubber padding, it does make a deeper thud when space is pressed down, so its entirely up to preference, its removable after applying.

Software
Regarding the software, it’s the typical OEM Chinese board software that some of you might recognize. I’ve uploaded all the pictures to an imgur album, so feel free to check it out.


Ergonomics

In terms of ergonomics, the first key height and the last row key of the Spectre 75 is sitting at just 1mm higher than the Ajazz AK820 Pro, both at the front and back. However, second row height onwards is notably higher, although I would consider this pretty comfortable for most.


Build Quality
In terms of build quality its definitely ahead of the Ajazz AK820 Pro, despite both being plastic, the Spectre 75 exterior definitely feels more premium, and the weight is also much heavier. I would say the Spectre 75 sits between budget and premium tier, where the premier tier would be something like my Asus ROG Azoth (~$250), and budget tier being the Ajazz AK820 Pro ($35).

Issues with the keyboard (Tecware pls read)
As with all other China OEM keyboards, the Spectre 75 keyboard does not retain the LCD "off" state after the keyboard is powered off and on OR when switched between modes. This is quite a disappointment for me because in their firmware, they stated that it will remain as per last setting, but not in this scenario. Usually electronics device will remember their RGB off and LCD off settings, I have emailed them regarding this and hopefully they will fix it soon.

Battery life
The battery life needs to be tested further, I have just charged it to 100%. I will test with LCD off, RGB off, and see how long it lasts. I use my keyboard about 8-10 hours a day. So lets see how this goes, I will update in a few days.

Well, i'm not exactly a tecware user, more like into trying out different 75%, i usually use them for a few month and i will change, i usually keep 1 budget and 1 premium kb, both 75%.

My first mech Tecware KB Tecware Phantom L still working bought in 2019, only a few switchs got problem, but swapped out with the spare switches.

I really like the low profile design, less wrist pain.

Nope. You need to use low-profile switches for such keycaps.

Assuming you are talking about Cherry MX switches by "regular key switches"

Low Profile keycaps with Cherry MX stem can fit Cherry MX switches.
LP keycaps with non standard stems, cannot.
