Not everyone can afford to install multiple aircon units. Sometimes, the other rooms already have aircon, and it is just one specific room that does not. Instead of replacing the entire system just to add cooling to that one room, people might opt for a portable unit.

In my case, the other rooms have aircon, but mine does not as Im staying in a utility room, and there’s not even space for a portable unit.

So poor thing have to live in utility room. Ok, I shall not argue with you given your plight.

I mean those portable without trucking.. just pour water inside..something like that
those are more of cooler than air-con. if your room is big then no point. unless your room is small room. and this one, confirm noisy. i used to use it until the drainage keep leaking water.

Staying in an old estate and just a 3-room flat. one room for my parents, the other for my sister. When we upgraded, we got a utility room behind the kitchen, and that is where I have been sleeping for years without aircon since their room aircons were installed before the utility room was set up.

But recently, I have been thinking of installing one. The thing is, all the current units are old already, and only my sister room is working, so if I want to add one, I probably replace all the existing ones too.

Intending to move out in 1/2 years time.

Definitely worth it to install a new compressor and a/c your whole place if possible

The hot weather in SG is unrelenting and seems to worsen to coming years

If those existing ones are like 10 years old or more, installing new ones may sound expensive initially but it actually saves you a lot on electricity over next 7-10 years. Old Aircon will see drop in cooling efficiency plus the introduction of inverters really helped to save money on electricity.

Just do it. A system 3 for your case should not be too expensive, $2,500-$3,000?

was checking, but family members expect only certain brands. so system 3 probably about 3.2 to 3.6k based on my checks on courts yesterday.

I used to have a huge Delonghi portable aircon in my bedroom which I share with my aunt, grandma and cousin in a 3-room flat. Every night I had to fill the container with tap water so that the aircon can effectively lower the room's temperature. Sometimes the aircon would leak, and water would flow all over the place and drench our mattresses. It was a real pain in the neck. Eventually we bargained with my uncle, the homeowner, and he agreed to let us upgrade to a 2-unit airconditioning system for the 3-room flat. It was a bliss, until a point came when the aircon also leaked water from the top. It was another headache as we tried to keep the unit dry.

I have no solutions for TS, just a lot of fond memories living in a 3-room flat with six other relatives. I didn't grow up with my parents, so living in relatives' flats I learned how to be cooperative. I won't recommend a portable airconditioning to anyone, but if you really need a recommendation, I did have a Carrier window portable unit installed in my grandmother's new 6-room flat and it didn't need to drink water. It was just a standard windows-fixated device which blew cool air into the bedroom. It wasn't very cold, but at least it didn't leak water, so give and take la.

Go to those with shop fronts in Yishun industrial factories areas... May not be cheaper but the way they handled things is what I preferred.
