Audio Engine different from Aego M right? Aego M is a 2.1 setup right?

Although the Aego M model is around 10 years old, at the price point, it still Beats many others?

I've owned couple of Altec including the ATP 3, Klipsch Promedia 2.1 THX, Aego M, Creative Gigaworks G500 THX 5.1, Bose Companion 3 and 5, and just bought the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 BT. Oh and some other bluetooth speakers from JBL, Harman Kardon and Klipsch.

Among all these speakers I've owned, I think the Aego M is one of the best sounding speakers for music which I owned for the longest. Very clear, good vocals, and brilliant sound stage. You can even use custom speaker cables and connectors for improved quality. However, if you love deep punchy bass, then the Aego may not suits u.

Bose Companion 3 - I bought a 2nd hand unit and I hate it. Sold it after a week.

Bose Companion 5 - slightly better than the 3, but not what I wanted. The woofer is rather selective in terms of positioning, in order to get the result you want.

Last weekend decided to bite the bullet and gotten myself the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 BT, knowing that Promedia has been around for over 10 years - and I'm blown away by the sound quality! Probably there is a good reason why Klipsch never release any replacement model for the Promedia, they are really that good I must say! I sold away my old Promedia 2.1 THX many years ago, and bought the Aego M but the sub was not as good as the Klipsch's.

Klipsch has done some minor improvement on the Promedia 2.1 BT, and the sound is as good if not better than the previous THX model. 1 thing, the speaker cables are hard soldered to the back of the speakers, changing the speaker cables are almost impossible. Used set in Carousell going for around 250. I bought brand new from Challenger last weekend @ 369.

I wish Aego M has the Promedia sub, and Klipsch has the Aego satellites :s22:

but it doesn't mean Aego M sub is lousy, the sub and satellites can handle very loud and well controlled.

Yup, different from audio engine..

Use to have the aego m coming from creative t3.. Now on Swan M50w after aego m.

Only drawback of Swan is the knob volume control and for aego m is volume adjustment on sub..

Sq wise M50w over m..

hmm. maybe off topic, anyway just to share, hardware are good but often very expensive.
sometimes using software tweaks might help enhance your listening pleasure :)

lets start by saying that I listen mainly to tight bass stuff. (Trance, Jazz, Rock, New Age) and clarity is important too (Vocal tracks, acoustic singing)

Anyway, I must say to have a Aego 2 is one of the best spending that last for a couple of years. but the MDF gave way due to the humid weather.

Back then I was using a vst plugin from audioware db (free back then as beta tester, till now am still using for free lol), a plugin to tune my audio.. is more on gain then to tweak bass and such. It uplift most audio as you can hear on most mp3s.

MP3s have different sampling rates as some are high and some are low, which often you will need to tune up and down the volume knobs.
Even with those EQ build in on some players. it does not sound as good as the vst I had.

Well just an illustration, ever wonder why FM module always sound so good when you have good network or frequency connection?
every tracks they played are always smoothing.. equal peak, good bass, ampere treble and etc.

Well nothing new as they make use of this. https://www.orban.com/optimodfm-8700i (AGC - Audio Gain Controllers) and of course ridiculous to buy one unless you are insane. I ended up using this .vst
my combo .vst includes DB-Dynamic Processor, DB-Multiband Limiter & DB-Master Limiter, the illustration is just the multiband limiter which does most of the job.
http://www.db-audioware.com/

btw this .vst is also good for those streamers with budget microphones.

anyway I have use this .vst plugin on my app player which allows to add this plugin.
I don't have to touch my volume knobs as every track will pass through this AGC which has the auto gain function.

now on the speaker side. as I mentioned. Aego 2 is a rock solid speaker all rounder but sad to say it's MDF gave way. I ended up to use my old Mission 780i Speakers but it needs a amplifier to drive these speakers.

I wanted it simple and got this speaker instead, the Presonus Eris E3.5. It might be on the budget side and might not suit those who like boomy impact. these speakers are for tight bass which suits my taste.

these are the pros
1) small (easy to place)
2) good material
3) able to plug aux to the speakers in the front
4) there are gain controls behind (which I don't use)
5) Dirt Cheap (to me that is)

Bonus pro
1) If you are a gamer who plays lots of first person shooter (like my nephew) you will love it.. you can just hear where the enemies are coming from and to nail them before you get nailed. well at least my nephew kept using my desktop instead of his lol.

Cons
1) might not be suitable if you going for super BASS like techno tracks.
2) does not have Bluetooth (will be nice to have)
3) you need shock absorb stand to uplift the music.. (am using these)

I am considering this Edifier R1280 and Logitech Z625.

Not sure which one to get.

Any feedback or recommendation?
