Recommendations for fridges

Like every brands got problems.

It can't be perfect for sure. Nowadays the electronics are not meant to last. If they sell you a fridge that last 20 years like they did in the past, means no biz for them for the next 20 years. Especially when there are so much electronic parts, the failure rate is expected to be high.

Regardless of what the salesperson tell you about where the product is made is not going to make a huge difference. For example, I used to have an LG fridge, which was supposedly made in Korea and should be better. It died quietly after about 4 years. My parents bought the highest end Mitsubishi fridge supposedly made in Japan, while it lasted for many years, it also had issues over the years like the ice maker failed, the PCB behind the display failed, etc...

Currently I am using a Panasonic fridge. So far so good, though I am not sure how long it will last. But point is, don't break your head thinking about buying one that is flawless, because you won't be able to find one like this.

Samsung twin cooling fridge

anyone using samsung twin cooling fridge and can review?
i thought the feature that allow us to turn off the freezer or fridge is useful especially when travelling.

Anyone has review for 6 doors fridge? I'm looking at Panasonic,Hitachi n Mitshibushi. Seems like only these 3 brands have it.

for multi door mostly mij models have and costs all 3k and above.

no regrets getting the hitachi one as the build u touch and open the fridge u immediately know the diff from made in china/Thailand or msia.

Samsung lg etc all these for more budget value without sacrificing space (can last 10 yrs or not is another thing)...mij multi doors above 500l capacity all reaching 4k+...

if u plan to use the fridge for more than 10yrs then go for those mij wont go wrong, alternatively u can go for French door models, big also and sub 2k price tag

Cannot be compared to MIJ ones but I feel its good and reasonably priced.

Lost faith in Samsung fridge

I bought my current fridge in 2014 and 2 years on, the fridge is not cold. Technician came to check and said its the motherboard spoilt. Thankfully, its within the warranty period. Few days ago, my fridge start leaking water and it turns out that my stuff in the freezer is thawing. After troubleshooting several times as taught by Samsung customer service and it still failed. Technician came the next day and checked that its my internal gas piping has eroded and thus gas is leaking. He quoted me $300ish to built an external piping as the internal piping is inaccessible. In addition, it will cause condensation on the fridge and floor. I decided not to repair but I still have to pay $80 as part of their transport and service fee. I fully understand that appliances has a certain expiry date but I just didn't expect that it did not even last me 5years and it's not cheap so now I have to shop for another fridge!

I cannot comment since I don't use Samsung fridge but I heard many bad stories of Samsung fridges to stay away from them.

Sticking to Japanese brands for this kind of big ticket items are usually safer.

All brands more or less the same these days. With inverters, your fridge is more or less at the mercy of the motherboard controlling the fridge. Even those MIJ ones.

I've avoided buying Hitachi because of underwhelming products and earlier posts in this thread plus my own auntie's Hitachi fridge PCB failing around the 3yr mark. And their other product lines (high end front load WMs and vacuum cleaners) are very overpriced for their feature set.

If got $4k to spend, I'd be buying a Liebherr fridge, not a MIJ 6 door fridge.

same experience with hitachi fridge, the motherboard failed after 2.5yrs, spare part cost abt $400.

My not so new midea fridge not cold after 7mths use, according to their repairman the compressor choke, 1 to 1 exchange a new set.

If 1k budget for a 450l fridge what would u recommend then? Need to have dual inverters for both freezer and fridge.

When choosing this kind of model. Important is not to have the middle vertical bar as it greatly reduce the effective capacity.
