Recommendations for fridges

We got a samung fridge long ago but at the 2nd year already got issues. Spent about 350 to repair it then the fridge guy said samsung isnt great for fridge. After the repair, the fridge broke down about 2 times - issue is that all compartments are not cold. So we are looking to buy a new fridge. The salesmen swear by his head LG is the best but im liking the panasonic bottom freezer design.. will appreciate any feedbacks on these. Thanks.

Both my fridges are panasonic. So far no complaints.

I'm currently looking at Mitsubishi fridge to replace my 9year+ old F&P. Mitsubishi only provides 1year warrenty on parts & service. The salesman recommends to top up $258 for +4years extended warrenty. Heard that Mitsubishi fridge is quite reliable so I'm not sure whether to top up or not. Any Mitsubishi fridge users can advise? Thanks in advance.

my parents said mitsubishi fridge last time better and reliable.. and thats true.. they start using when i only 13 years old and now im 29.... just spoilt this year 2017... you count lah..

Both my fridges are panasonic. So far no complaints.

my previous fridge is Panasonic, 3 door, freezer bottom, top fridge, middle vege compartment.

every year also spoil once, not cold at fridge, freezer still cold, luckily i bought extended 4 years warranty, after 5th year the freezer magetic gasket gone, door always auto open when closing top door.

I owned 2 freezer bottom fridge before panasonic and hitachi and they all failed after a year of use and even for second year after repair, failed again, not cold in fridge.

The recent hitachi repairman told me that those freezer at bottom had higher failure rate as he mostly service those freezer bottom fridge, told me if want buy fridge buy those normal ones and choose mitsubishi 3 door that using previous technology which was most reliable one, i guess not inverter type and digital control type

I am using Hitachi fridge with french door at top and freezer drawer at bottom, about 450L. Bought in 2015 at $1.1k after discount at Mega, with 1 yr warranty, 2nd year parts, now still selling at $1399 before discount

Useless inverter that never lower electricity consumption, nano deodouriser that doesn't seems to remove even slight food odour.

2016 - just after 1year warranty, the fridge part not cold, freezer cold, called the hitachi repairman, came just pour warm water over the evaporator, charged me about $90.

2017 - after 2 years parts warranty, freezer and fridge not cold, fridge at 15 degree, freezer stuff melting. Wrote an email to hitachi to complain, a lady called me the next day to arrange for service, never told me the charges and assume i will repair all at cost, luckily i asked, she said check problem no need pay.

The service man came told me need change motherboard and evaporator heater, quoted me $327 including labour and only given 1 month warranty for spare parts.

Though the fridge still looked brand new, I refused for the repair, now waiting for lazada sale or qoo10 sale to buy a brand new fridge, budget $500-700, learnt a lesson never buy expensive and fancy technology fridge.

Just to share my 22+years Goldstar (it has renamed to LG) fridge that had served me well with 2 DIY repaired.

1st issue on last year, the "freezer and fridge not cold" although the bulb in it still light up. Done some research and testing, concluded the Defrost Timer was faulty, bought the spare parts from ebay, replaced and it works like a charm.

A few month back, another new issue, this time, the "freezer was cold but not the fridge". I tried switch-off the fridge's power for few hours to totally defrosted and the fridge works well for about 2 weeks before same issue happened again. After several tests with the multimeter, found the Defrost Sensor was faulty, bought the spare parts and solved the issue.

Anyone has review for 6 doors fridge? I'm looking at Panasonic,Hitachi n Mitshibushi. Seems like only these 3 brands have it.

i also use goldstar fridge before, use for 10yrs+ never repair before. Hand itchy go change to panasonic because wanted something new and stylish in design, guess is a wrong choice since nowadays products whatever brand also low quality.

currently no, my experience with panasonic and hitachi was not good, now eyeing midea brand, cheap and after warranty no need worry about not throwing away if faulty.

actually for inverter, the advertisement looked nice about saving electricity, but inverter fridge is keep on running the whole day, i wonder does it uses same or more electricity overall. And running the whole day the wear and tear faster than traditional compressor?

old compressor is start stop start stop pattern.

Good question. Think I will put a meter to find out the KWH it uses in a real-World scenario. The results later in a month or two.

I thought all fridge runs whole day?

No matter it is an inverter or conventional fridge, it has timer in it to start the defrost process. This mean there are times (6 to 12 hours intervals) where the compressor totally stopped.

Note that, while the defrost timer stopped the compressor, it also power-on the heater to help speed up the defrost process.


Different in both defrost timer: Conventional fridge's defrost timer is a standalone parts, while the defrost timer of the inverter fridge is bulit-in on the PCB/main board.

Maybe that's why the repair cost of modem fridge are much expensive since many functions are controlled by the all-in-one main board.
