Thanks for the reply!
1) CPU: Intel is more expensive for the same( or actually alot weaker performance if you do multi-core/threading heavy tasks like video editing) so I wouldnt go with intel at all. But hey, your money your com. Intel is never a good choice for budget. - May I know which processor and motherboard you would recommend for the budget then?

2) GPU - The 2060 is not a RTX-ready nor is it a 4k-ready GPU. It is at best a 1440p GPU, and its RTX capabilities are mediocre at best. 4k-ready starts at 2070, best bet is 2080 onwards. The 1080ti is 4k-ready too but lack RTX capabilities, albeit much cheaper than the 2080/2080ti - So if I not getting a 4K screen, means no point getting a 4K ready graphics card? Whats RTX capabilities ?

3) Ram: Always go dual channel, never single channel. If you decide on 32gb, 16x2. if 16gb, 8x2. - Lol not sure to decide on 16gb or 32gb. Will 32gb be an overkill?

1) I'd say 2600x since your primary use case is gaming. The 2600x is much cheaper for basically the same performance. The 2700 beats it in multi-core/threaded workloads such as (3d rendering, vid editing) which does not matter here: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-7-2700-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-2600X/3957vs3956

2) Yup, if you plan to get a 4k screen, be prepared to go all out on the hardware(GPU, CPU). When I mean 4k-ready, I mean comfortable gaming at least 40+ FPS at high settings, else you're honestly just wasting your money buying a 4k screen. I'd suggest getting a much cheaper 2070/2060/1070ti instead and go 1440p. Still damn gorgeous graphics for a much cheaper price. RTX is marketed as the 'next-gen' of gaming graphics for more real-life features. Its something game developers will be basing their games on probably in the far-future(no developers right now have announced yet), so an RTX-ready card such as the 2070 onwards can be said to be future-proof i guess. The 2060 has RTX capabilities but is imo abit weak unless you play at 1080p.

3) 32gb is honestly overkill since you dont stream nor do you have a heavy workflow(running VMs, rendering, IDEs etc.) Games never take up more than 16gb so you should just stick to that.

i thought TS posted this rig is for gaming?

Ryzen loses out to Intel in terms of gaming right? If TS doesnt do any video editing/content creation, the intel i5 9600k is a good buy in terms of gaming. High fps in games, quite on par with i7 9700k

If tight budget, go for 9600k otherwise spend abit more for the 9700k. ONLY if you are using the rig predominantly for gaming. Otherwise the Ryzen is a better choice.

The 9700k runs cooler than the 9900k and games are marginally faster with the 9700k. You also get to 5Ghz easier without hitting the thermal wall. 9600k should also clock very nicely.

Heavy gaming with normal usage: 9600K or 9700K.

Normal usage and normal gaming: 2600X or 2700/2700X.

Actually to be honest... if cash is not an issue, i will get the 9700K over the 9900K and the 2700X. :o

FPS difference between AMD and intel is not significant (at best 5-10%) for a huge difference in price. The 'gaming' brand of intel is an illusion lel. Both AMD and intel are equally capable at gaming.

The 2600x goes for about 288 SGD. The i5 9600k at its cheapest rn goes for 368 SGD. With both being almost equal in performance. For a couple FPS difference in gaming performance that the normal person wouldnt even notice, I wouldn't bother pricing such a high price premium for it.

And like the person above me alr mentioned, Ryzen 3000 with its much faster single core speed is gonna demolish whatever hope you had in overpriced intel chips LOL. So let's wait and see

Not a good time to upgrade though. Ryzen 3000s will destroy intel market share in the 2nd half. Better performance at much lower cost.

Any intel CPU since the sandy bridges until now are all capable of gaming.

Still in games, its higher fps. some games much higher margin. Twitch shooters definitely intel has a much higher fps margin. And the margin goes higher if its overclocked. Anyway thats the main priority for TS, which is to game.

if talking about future ryzen processors, intel also will have future processors.

Its the same like why people buy LV handbags instead of unbranded cheapo handbags. If money is a concern, then yea get the "value" items lo.

exactly!

If a rig is solely used for gaming, and if the monitor in used is a high refresh monitor, definitely want more fps to serve the refresh rate of the monitor. Going AMD only gets lower FPS and if sole reason is to game, why wanna get a more "balanced" rig when intel definitely is catered for gamers.

True. If only you don't care about performance loss. Many games from 2016 onwards utilizes more cores/threads to off set cpu work load. An I5 2500k overclocked at 4.8GHZ would get Assassin's Creed Odyssey running at 30 fps on avg with gtx 1080 ti.
With an i5 8600k at stock paired with gtx 1080 ti you get 70-80 fps. The bottleneck is real.

The current gen of Ryzen 2000s series is just meh, so I think if u wanna get more performance go for intel. But Intel can never compete in price:performance ratio.

But as for the upcoming Ryzen 3000s series. Intel will lose in both performance and even price:performance ratio. It a no brainer, really. We are talking about a huge performance and price gap. With price:performance improving for amd by at least 30% when it's already beating intel by a lot.

erm. if AMD will release its Ryzen 3000s series, wouldn't Intel in the near future release something to compete with Ryzen too? Of course if u gonna compare a future AMD processor with current Intel offerings, obviously la. I can also say the next Intel processor surely beat current AMD Ryzen in terms of gaming, (though the current one already beat AMD).

erm.... Because intel already told everyone that it already has issue with 10nm?
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/10/report-intel-is-cancelling-its-10nm-process-intel-no-were-not/

AMD has prototype running on 7nm process already in CES. Launching in the next half. even Bizgram leaked the amd cpu prices already. And they are super valued.

And the pricing leaks for the launch would put a usd $200 range cpu on par with intel $600-$700 cpu? Unless u are suggesting that intel would do a 50% price drop on their future products to match amd's price.

You are basically good to go, prices from pctheme
Thanks for the recommendations!

Seem like there is some debate in regards to the processor and graphics card

1. Intel i7 9700k vs Ryzen 7 2700
2. RTX 2070 vs RTX 2080

Still not sure which ones I should get after reading the replies
Any comments regarding the above are greatly appreciated!

whichever cpu/mobo combo that allows you to get RTX2080 **should** be the better option bah
